Vbulletin 3.5.1

I give this mod a thumbs up!

I installed this mod and have it working. Don't try to use google news rss feeds. They all kinds of formatting in the description. Went with yahoo.

I am seeing a few glitches. Random characters are appearing in the message body.
Example - http://www.snocrazy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=495
It might just be the feed from yahoo. I am also seeing off topic articles from them.

Here is a sample of google news rss feed. Let me know if you find a way to make it work.

e.g.) Suppose I create a thread id 100, and the script adds just the title and link from the RSS feed to this thread. After a month (or day, or week), I (or the script) can start a new thread for that month, and adds the new data into that single thread..

I think it can be done with a little bit of tweaking to this script.. Each feed seems to have too little information to warrant a new thread, but I like the idea of having just the title of the news in a thread.

Anyone who can help me on how to do this?

yeah that would be so so great :)
can anybody help us with that?

Knoxvegan 11-15-2005 10:56 PM

I can't figured out where to upload the files too. Also, it keeps kicking me out of the Admin CP ever since I created the task. Any ideas on both questions? Thanks.

Knoxvegan 11-15-2005 11:32 PM

I got the install fixed but I'm still suffering login problems after this install. It seems to kick everyone out randomly and require login.

Non stop duplictaes every day I'm afraid - clicks uninstall

gc1 11-17-2005 02:14 PM

I have a forum that deals with missing people that 3 ladies run that have gotten actual laws passed in their states regarding missing people.

You don't even know how much easier it has made these ladies jobs that works tirelessly for a non profit org to get amber alert rss feeds .

Thank You very much for this

NineToez 11-20-2005 05:32 AM

Love this mod, execpt for some duplicate posts and wish it didn't show up on the 'New Posts' section. You can prune the forum that you have these posts go in to which isn't a big deal, but all in all an excellent extension.

b6gm6n 11-23-2005 11:27 PM

how do you remove the 'RSS Forum Feeds' ACP menu controls, i've uninstalled...

EDIT : remove the custom xml from includes/xml/

I don't know if there is allready a better fix for rdf feeds, but here is mine:

I used the fix from garrynewman
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=306

open class_ffrss.php

add at the top
Code:

require_once(DIR . '/includes/class_core.php');
find
Code:

$this->XML_Parse =& new XMLparser(false, $vbulletin->GPC['feed_location']);
comment it out and add this
Code:

//##### START MODIFICATION #####
$rss = @file_get_contents($vbulletin->GPC['feed_location']);
$searchresult = strpos($rss,'</rdf:RDF>');
if($searchresult !== false)
{
  $rss = str_replace( "</channel>", "", $rss );
  $rss = str_replace( "</rdf:RDF>", "</channel>\n</rdf:RDF>", $rss );
  $rss = str_replace( "content:encoded", "content", $rss );
}

$this->XML_Parse =& new XMLparser($rss);
//##### END MODIFICATION #####

1. Its not an RSS format feed, its an ATOM feed. Two different animals.
2. You've installed this hack instead of ArticleBot.

NineToez 11-29-2005 05:41 PM

Any news lately on fixing double posting perhaps? Is it in the cron job?

DjTaz 11-30-2005 09:44 AM

Im having a problem where the newsfeed posts the first time no problem - it gets 27 posts and puts them up ... and then thats it ?

I need to delete that feed , and put in another one manually for it to work again - and still the same thing when i do that - even update feed doesnt work

ArticleBot for 3.5

DjTaz 12-05-2005 11:58 AM

So your suggesting uninstall this and install ArticleBot 3.5 instead ?

I was hoping for an easier answer to get this one working to be honest

Got the same error as jesus likes pie and I don't wanna hear about ArticleBot. How do I fix this? I have four feeds my vB scans twice a day for; two are fine and the other two give me this error when I run it manually.

NineToez 12-07-2005 04:11 AM

^^ Anyone have any insight on this?

JPQuiceno 12-07-2005 03:37 PM

Does anyone know how to get the Slashdot Feed to work? I haven't seen anyone who has been able to.

Floris 12-11-2005 06:38 PM

Does this work yet on 3.5.2?

If you mean "worked" as in functioned as designed, it has never worked.

Yes, that is what I am suggesting. I installed ArticleBot in place of this and I have been so much happier since.

NineToez 12-12-2005 04:02 PM

ArticleBot doesn't work well for me at all; this one does a much better IMHO and yes, I'm running 3.5.2 so it's fine. The fatal error I had before had to be due to a bad RSS feed since I couldn't find anything else wrong with it and works flawlessly since I removed the suspect feed.

how DO you uninstall this? and any recommendations for the best transition from this to articlebot?

I was just going to install articlebot, get that running, THEN uninstall this so as to have no gap in feed service. is that a bad idea?

The Chief 12-13-2005 12:26 AM

I have just installed it on my vB 3.5.2 and it seems to work fine, except for posting, it just doesn't seem to work, when I QR it doesn't show up in AJAX and when I reload the post, my post is like before the article, when I reply to somebody's post in that one, mine goes under his???

can anybody help with this?

loonytune15 12-13-2005 01:46 PM

uninstalled due to the massive amounts of duplicates.

had no probs with the cron job btw.

MOREAGA 12-13-2005 04:29 PM

everytime i try to update my feed it shows this

Fatal error: Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vb_datamanager_thread_firstpost in /includes/class_dm.php on line 758

and also when i was able to post it wouldn't show the content of the post, just the title and in the actual post it would say description.

silurius 12-16-2005 06:12 PM

I get this error also on 3.5.2, even with cURL enabled. My host directed me to this page to see "how they handle it".

Is there anything further I need to do to this hack to take advantage of cURL?

    ---solution:

    cURL or open_URL needs to be ENABLED in your server.ini file. THIS HAS TO BE DONE BY YOUR HOST PROVIDER. I had to actually move hosts to get it. :/

I just installed the plugin today and get the same error message. I'm new to RSS so I'm just attempting to duplicate the BBC News sample above.

Any ideas? Thanks. -- Rik

Well, I found the reason was that I hadn't entered the following code:

Hi @ll,

i'm having trouble with the charset.

On my Forums i am using ISO-8859-9. The Feeds i am getting have for ex. UTF-8.

When i check the posted Feed, i am getting following:

Code:

yerel a?daki makinelerin kaynaklarına ula?abiliyor, onlara mesaj atabiliyor ve daha nice i?ler yapabiliyorduk.
Does somebody know, how i can handle this ?

1 - Delete first Feeds in ACP
2 - Goto Manage Products, choose uninstall from the dropdown Box
3 - Delete Posts from RSS-Bot ( Or delete Feed-Forum, if you have created one only for the Feeds )
4 - Update Forum,Thread Statistics

think thats it.

No one has solved the duplicates issue yet? Interesting. This hack has SOOO much potential!

NineToez 12-28-2005 08:35 AM

In my experience, the dupes are an issue of a feed itself, and not necessarily of this mod. I current run 4 RSS feeds with this mod and only one duplicates posts. The duplicates I just simply automatically prune away anyway so it's not really that big of a deal.

You are absolutely correct, and please pardon if I am stating the obvious here.

The hack reads the feed as often as you have it setup to, so if duplicate data is in the feed the hack is going to read it and import it. I wish it would differentiate between duplicates by checking for identical titles or something, that would be cool. I am going to see what's under the hood today and see if I can fix it.

DjTaz 12-28-2005 02:19 PM

Im not getting duplicates - it gets 27 threads first time i do it - and then none after that unless i fully delete the rss feed and re-do another one ...anyone know the problem ?
