I agree, that is funny :nervous:

John, one other thing, how can I add the challenge link into the members profile?

Heh, thanks. ;)

Hopefully we'll hit 100 by the end of the week! :)

Schorsch, I'll probably add it as an extra later on.

Why doesn't that pingu link work for me? :/

Yes Gio, I am behind a router/firewall.
I just set myself up as a DMZ host and the issue still remains.

Any ideas from John and others?

John 01-20-2004 07:29 PM

LightBringer, I can't see why a router or a firewall would cause problems - it's all standard port 80 internet traffic.

To test the connection theory, you could always try logging in and testing it somewhere else...

I guess it's just frustrating because I can't seem to nail down the resolve for this problem. Floors me that others can play on it just fine, but apparently the arcade knows it's me and doesn't like me even on my own forums *sniff*.

Newfound information!

I just tried playing on another individuals arcade and VOILA! The issues are there as well so I am 100% confident that it has something to do with ME.

Ah..another thing....to keep people from playing in arcade without having a certain number of posts I could just create a new user group...but how would I display a message saying "you must make 10 posts before playing"...

It's live multiplayer gaming.

LightBringer 01-20-2004 08:04 PM

HA HA! I have fixed the problem! heh

The issue was I did not have a language setting set up in my Internet Exploder.

Once I set up the appropriate language setting, all was well!

Thanks for your patience!

Are you using IE? If so, I'd check the security settings/levels. I know I've had many problems with websites and then upon setting the security settings to default all my problems go away.

Oh dear, what have I started!

I think I mentioned earlier, the v3 Arcade was coded for a select group of my clients... bearing that in mind, the netPlay system was also planned for their usage.

There will be 5 live multiplayer games to choose from, to begin with. It runs off customised XML socket server software, which needs to be installed on a server. For my clients, they're going to be using my dedicated socket server to run netPlay from.

I don't have a problem with sharing with vb.org, but they would need access to a socket server running this software.

MaDCaT75 01-20-2004 08:42 PM

Aw come on theres gotta be a way to get the FLA file for the decent copter game! The author's e-mail is dead..... no way to contact him!!!!

That sounds interesting, I look forward to hearing more about it.. Running the software on our server shouldn't be a big deal, otherwise I guess we could pay a fee to share an existing one setup for this purpose such as yours...

Would it be possible to make a small hack that allows only people with "x" amount of posts to play games in the arcade? I've got people who visit my forums simply to play games and don't contribute anything to the site.

Just one question:
Can we edit the score a user got through the adminCP?

BillaBongUSA 01-20-2004 11:01 PM

No, but you can always edit scores via phpMyAdmin.

I thought about adding it a few times, but I can't see why anyone would want to. The only thing it'd do would be to allow admins to cheat.... <shifty eyes>

John 01-20-2004 11:56 PM

Ok, there have been plenty of requests for new additions, things like minimum user posts, etc. I'll spend a day or two adding new features soon, I'd like to give it a few more days to allow any more bugs to get back to me.

The only reported bugs at the moment are:
- Strange colours in Arcade Settings on certain styles.
- A few prefix problems which are still in arcade.php.

I haven't installed this yet but looking at the admin cp screenshot it looks like this is already possible by adding a promotion that has a requirement of an x amount of posts and which is the only one that has access to the arcade. I suggest you use more requirements though because when I had the other arcade hack installed on vb2 with a postcount requirement, people started spamming the forums. So I suggest you add reputation requirement in that promotion too.

Cool hack, I'll probably install this one in a few days. :)

New game: Maeda Path

Installation
To install Maeda Path, upload the following files to your forum:
maeda1.gif -> /images/arcade/maeda1.gif
maeda2.gif -> /images/arcade/maeda2.gif
maeda.swf -> /games/maeda.swf
maeda.game.php -> /admincp/maeda.game.php

Point your browser to /admincp/maeda.game.php. (E.g. http://www.yourforums.com/forum/admincp/maeda.game.php).
Don't forget to delete the script once you're finished!

Gio Takahashi 01-21-2004 12:51 AM

nice, my members just keeps on asking for more. They're addicted to the games :P

oh and a suggestion: You should add the new games to the installation as you update the installation file. It would be less of a hassle for people who hasn't installed this.

WAR 01-21-2004 01:37 AM

I am new to the community and haven't really learned how things work around here... But has anyone tried asking futureal if he still has all of the .fla files from his vbPro Arcade from version 2.x?

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=47198

He has a ton of games listed that he converted.

In particular I personally would be interested in the ExtremeSnake game he has listed there, but he also has several others that seem like a lot of fun.

not sure what the level of competition is between hack developers is around here...

MaDCaT75 01-21-2004 01:57 AM

I doubt the copter fla is anywhere to be found.....

Well i have installed your hack and already members have started flooding it. I would really like this feature personally, sometimes users get the most stupid scores and it's totally unfair, it's more fun to take 10k off their Snake score to give other members a chance XP

And yes my admins want to cheat.

Edit: Me was wondering ^_^ is their any card games like Blackjack & Poker added? I adore casino games and i'm sure my members would enjoy some to!

Actually, I did not convert the games myself, many others from the community did. vbProArcade v3.0 (for vB3) will have a "legacy mode" that will allow it to work with all of the other vbProArcade games. However, those games will unfortunately not work with John's hack, so unless somebody posted the source to them, I think we're all collectively out of luck for re-modifying the games.

As for competition, I don't mind it; I wrote my arcade for my forums and I re-wrote it for my soon-to-be vB3 forums. I'm happy to share it with others but if they choose to use a different arcade, that's fine by me; this isn't a popularity contest! John has already come up with some cool ideas here that may find their way into mine eventually, and it sounds like the multiplayer thing could be great as well. I look forward to seeing the hack develop.

If I do locate any game sources, I'll be sure to post them. As I said, you might do a search through the old Flash games thread, as there are bound to be sources (or links to sources) posted there.

MaDCaT75 01-21-2004 02:56 AM

Damnit.... someone's gotta have the copter fla!

EvilCrow 01-21-2004 04:18 AM

[high]* EvilCrow Clicks Install
[/high]

The best add-on I've done to my board..but I have two probs

1.) When you click on the "Your Settings" botton in the arcade I get a blank page with just the Control panel on the left and nothing on the right.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2004/01/1.jpg

2.) I've challenged a few ppl and that works fine but once you click on the "Challenges" link you get :

Hmm... Seems like that would be a template-related problem. Maybe you should count the arcade templates and make sure that there are 26, maybe something went wrong in the installation.

MaDCaT75 01-21-2004 05:28 AM

Jesus loves you all....

Please edit this copter.fla for the arcade k thx bye
