This script is RC, Release Candidate. To my knowledge it does not have a complete uninstaller and there seem to be complaints about SQL errors here and there (somewhat unsubstantiated I agree).

Do you think that he should install this on a site with 600k users? If you say yes, then by all means release this as Gold. I know a bunch of people are waiting for it.

What does 600k users have to do with anything? If the script itself is functional and secure, what's the problem? Sure the script has a few bugs here and there.. i'm trying to help and resolve them.

Disabled it and nothing changed.

i just wanted to address this.

the reason it's in RC as opposed to beta is because at the time of each of the RC's (maybe bar one) there have been zero known bugs. when i went without a bug for three days straight i could've declared it GOLD however i never because i'm actually querying whether or not i should sent it GOLD before i fully phrase the project. See the thing here is that there's a grave error in judgement in regards to GRPS and my standing on it. i never released it because i want to give something to the community, that's actually secondary. i released it because i felt my community could benefit from the added exposure this script would give it. i'm sorry my hearts just not pure enough for me to bang out RC's seven days a week without getting paid. yeah it'd be nice to get BOTM and imo i deserve it for how innovative GRPS has been in regards to enhancements for vBulletin alone, but i don't control the votee. and yeah i'd love to say that my inbox was ringing with donations but it hasn't. however despite all this i continue to work hard to provide the best product that i possibly can.

You talk about the installer? i have no idea what you're on about. i mean honestly. 90% of the problems regarding the installer have been an issue with people not knowing the relative path/directory of their forums. however did i let this deter me? no and as a result come RC9 having a feel for my "target" audience i took that bit out of their hands. the only problem with installation which cannot be called anything bar my fault is that it doesn't work from one sub domain to another. my bad, it's an unforeseen drama. however the alternative as unpretty as it may be is to run the script below the forums directory. now if that's what you call an incomplete installer so be it. i call that an end-user problem in which i've again and again, been willing to check out peoples forums and give them the exact text they need to input. bare in mind, so such a simple task people over at vBulletin.com are being paid for this.

As for complaints about SQL errors? where? as far as i can count, there's maybe two, three as a stretch experiencing time-outs and as a result, i've agreed to look into them. that's as far as it goes.

Now in all honesty, knowing that RC10 is literally that bug (the time-out one, which requires further feedback) and 'fixing' an unforeseen vBulletin option, i think i'm well within my right to say that you're scaremongering and for no good reason at all. You're more than entitled to give your opinion, but don't defend it when it's so cheap and uneducated.

But alas all of this is just my opinion.

I have been using this for a couple of weeks and haven't got one problem

3) Right -- it's pointing to the right dir, but I just don't have an image called grps_noimage_9.gif. Not a big deal.

4) I did change my home URL from my forums URL. So home is set to http://www.churchmedia.net and forums is set to http://www.churchmedia.net/CMN/

Thanks for your help on this. I think the main problem is getting the avatars to point to the right directory. If we can nail that, I think I'm ready to go live with it. :)

1/ see below.

2/ fixed in RC10

3/ good good.

4/ fixed in RC10

groups.php is one of the scripts.

this is what i would suggest for you to do.

1/ close your board temporarily (about 15 minutes downtime)

2/ open your config.php and add to the top of it (around line 22)
PHP Code:

$config['Misc']['debug'] = TRUE

3/ go to each of the pages that give you the timeout problems and at the bottom of your page click on "Explain" is you can't get that far then simply ammend to the url to show
PHP Code:

&explain=

at the end.

4/copy and paste (ctrl+a => ctrl+c) the contents of that page to an email and mark each email with the page i.e. groups.php.

5/email them to the address at the bottom of the instructions (install.txt)

6/ when you've sent all of them, then email me and i'll review them.

while i think i know what the problem could be, i really need confirmation.

Ok, I think I found the problem query. It does query the user table ..
I emailed you the outputs of the debug.

thought so, i'll have to drop the avatar_cache, though in all honesty i never understood the function myself, it was handed to me back when i started out and i've never really built a friendship with it, despite taking it everywhere.

When I did a group search this is the error I got minus private info:

I also have about 35 groups so far....and it only shows 25 under the 'Browse Groups' categories. Its not showing the rest for some reason. And until its fixed, I added a direct link to my forums in my navbar. Its not re-writing that url it seems, but is re-writing others.

Great mod :)

I look forward to the RC10. At the moment none of the images are being displayed other than the ones in groups/ folder. I am testing it at my personal computer and so far am unable to set the chdir path.

Here is the path I am currently using:

chdir("../../gold/");

vb is installed in:

C:\AppServ\www\My_Content\gold\

http://localhost/my_content/gold/

Groups is located at:

C:\AppServ\www\My_Content\gold\groups\

http://localhost/my_content/gold/groups/

What should be the chdir path? Images work once I copy the entire styles directory to gold\ .. I've tried changing the pathin chdir and it gives me:

Code:

Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) in c:\appserv\www\my_content\gold\groups\includes\config_grps.php on line 45

Warning: main(./global.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in c:\appserv\www\my_content\gold\groups\index.php on line 75

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.;C:\AppServ\php\PEAR') in c:\appserv\www\my_content\gold\groups\index.php on line 75

I hope that these issues are taken care of in the RC10... I am not familiar with VB at the moment since I've just switched from phpBB > VB and would really appreciate if the installation instructions in the next version are in a bit more detail.

Once again, great mod! Thank you for your time & dedication to the project.

God bless you. :)

Shmee 10-14-2006 04:10 PM

Try

chdir("../gold/");

hehe, sounds good. woot, once that's removed or whatever, I can start using it.

Endurer 10-14-2006 04:34 PM

There are no errors coming up with "../" but it's taking images from the groups/images and not gold/images/ the log out path is set to gold/groups/ whereas it should be gold/. :)

toolblast 10-14-2006 04:52 PM

Ya ../ works best. Everything works for me over on my site, except the reply button, which is being forced to work in RC10. Other than that, no problems installing, no other issues. With the images you just need to make sure in your style you've put in the full path to the image folders so instead of /images/whatever its http://yoursite.com/images/whatever

whitetigergrowl 10-14-2006 06:00 PM

I noticed in my sql database it didnt add a vb_ prefix like everything else is supposed to. How do I fix this?

Endurer 10-14-2006 11:02 PM

Thank you tooblast :) it's coming up fine now. Just one problem and that is with the reps button in the groups/viewthread. Here's whats coming up instead of the reps button:

Ya it gets a bit messed up on the reputation icon.. you have to go into the settings and you'll see a part where it replaces code/images... there is a part where it looks for reputation and it replaces it with a blank image I think... try and play around with that.

grps does not use prefix's for it's database schema by design, anyone added prefix's for the grps tables does so of their own accord but DO NOT ask me to support any problems what so ever that occur on your board to do with GRPS after, at all.

Ya... RC9.. im not sure if it was RC9b.. but some boards the 'find and replace' bit where it goes in and tries to get rid of the reputation icon doesnt seem to work properly and inserts code where it shouldnt be. But with a little bit of playing around it is fixable. Depends on the board and how much they've hacked up their postbit I guess.

Any eta on RC10? :D

vphost 10-15-2006 04:46 PM

That's why i made it a user option, i thought i'd stress you lot instead of being stressed about the replacements in the postbit, there's far too much customization for me to worry about it on most peoples boards.

RC10; unless something drastically more exciting comes up, it'll be in an hour or two. i'm just rewriting the parts of the script that bring larger boards to a crashing halt.

sabret00the 10-16-2006 03:48 PM

i can't replicate the redirect problems :(

UncoderMom 10-16-2006 04:07 PM

This may be a noob question but can we get a premium forum for this on vb.org?

I have been on this thread for 2 hours trying to find what I need. I can only imagine that thats going to get worst when it goes gold, considering this hack ROCKS!

Anyway, all my image paths are not showing, I know ive read the post lol and tryed to implement the sugestions. My buttons and smilies and avatars are showing. Just not hte background images and headers :(

Its prolly something Im missing on my end because I am having difficulty understanding all the diferent sugestions that appear to be for the same issue.

I deff think this hack deserves its own forum :) GREAT JOB! Very impressive!

Other then the slight image issue there was NO errors or troubles installing!! TY

Endurer 10-16-2006 04:19 PM

^ I second the dedicated forum suggestion.

All of the issues I had with images path have been fixed except that reputation image one.. thanks to toolblast and sabret100the for their kind help. :)

Looking forward to the RC10.

UncoderMom 10-16-2006 04:55 PM

If I tryed the suggestions in this post it would break my form template!

It is calling the header image from /groups...

Also you can see a lot of the css is not being defined...*shrug*

BTW I opened it to guest for view creat and posting...for the time being as my users dont have the link yet :)

UncoderMom 10-16-2006 05:16 PM

Also, it would be quite neet to have a whos viewing group option! or a who has viewed! :)

have you tried disabling vbjournal or vbgooglemap. they seem to be causing the problems as opposed to grps.

New Zip/Release:
Groups v2.0.0 RC10.zip: optimises some of the code, cuts down on queries in exchange for additional joins and now forces compatibility in groups/viewthread.php with vBulletin options. also adds new option in admincp in order to make usercp listing work better out of the box.
