Now why would that be a factor if all was perfect before this update? I believe there is a subtle error that we are all experiencing above and beyond this reference post.

towermatt 08-29-2007 11:15 AM

Well, for me it was just someone putting in a funky link for the image on their marker, when they did that, it messed it up for everyone.

I edited the entry, deleted the link, now the markers are back

I've asked several times to have an option to disable the images but I haven't heard back on that yet. I know you can simply disable the text box where you input the image information but I haven't been able to find where that is yet. The remote image becomes a huge performance killer where there are a lot of images, especially if they used a slow host like photobucket.

towermatt 08-29-2007 01:03 PM

Very true, I am encourageing people to host the image they are going to use in my sites Photo Gallery because it does the size and also is always available.

Even with that there is still a performance hit. I think it would be better to simply link to the user's profile.

towermatt 08-29-2007 01:32 PM

Well, there is a link to the user profile on the main tab right, so what you want is the image to be whatever their avatar is?

You're right, there is a link already. I prefer to have no images at all, or at least the option to turn them off completely.

towermatt 08-29-2007 01:38 PM

That may be a very useful option for this thing. I am finding that most of my users don't even put something on there.

But I agree, it would be nice to have the choice to turn it off.

Julrou 08-29-2007 01:45 PM

An i agree it would be nice that someone find what could be the reason for the problem....

TerryMason 08-29-2007 02:36 PM

I just want to echo that my map quit listing markers, and it was do to what towermatt mentioned -

Edit: I found the problem with mine. A user added an image and used full html code to it which broke the XML. If you are having the same issue and can't find where it is, open http://www.yourdomain.com/yourforumpath/markers.xml with Firefox and check where the error occurs. This only applies if you had the addon working and it suddenly broke for no reason.

Remember to manually run the cron tab after editing the offending marker, otherwise the file markers.xml won't be updated right away.

towermatt 08-29-2007 08:55 PM

what does it do Julrou?

You probably mentioned it above but I might be able to help somehow

dwsdad 08-30-2007 01:02 AM

Just finished installing the files and doing all the setup. When I clicked on the link in the navbar, I got this error:

Warning: main(./includes/functions_vbgooglemapme.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /vbgooglemapme.php on line 46

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required './includes/functions_vbgooglemapme.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/concours/public_html/forum/vbgooglemapme.php on line 46

HELP!!!! please......

EDIT: I found where I hadn't ftp'd the file over. Did that and it works fine now.

MISCMORE 08-30-2007 06:28 AM

Sorry, but I don't understand how to implement the german language file:

vbgooglemapme_deutsch.xml

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

in fact, like some of you, the markers don't appear on the map.

Go here (registration required to see the map) :

http://www.informatiquefacile.eu/forums/vbgooglemap.php

If needed, i can put you admin, like i did for stonyarc. ;)

Thks

towermatt 08-30-2007 03:46 PM

Very cool site there--I will sign up over lunch and try to help out.

Have you ran the markers.xml to see if it is the problem above? Are there any entries on the map?

towermatt 08-30-2007 07:25 PM

Wow! I can't even figure how to register on the other language.

<---lame

If you would like to set me up with a sign on, I will get in and see what I can do.

Hey stony, it's so great to see this one updated...

I didn't see this mentioned in the fix history, but did you get the 'findme doubles queries in showthread' issue taken care of yet? Or should I just update and still get rid of this one hook?

Thanks again for keeping this updated!

Doctor Death 08-30-2007 09:12 PM

My markers file has no bad XML tags in it...

So where do you think I should go from here? Was working perfect until this last upgrade and now the map has no markers on it, but doesnt create errors.

The LIST USERS function works and shows all users and their data. You can edit the file and save but it still doesnt show.

Please give me hope that I wont have to uninstall this great mod.

dutchbb 08-30-2007 10:48 PM

It was working great, untill about ten members marked their location and suddenly all markers disappeared. The member data is still there but it does not show on the map.

So this mod is not bug free, I just like to state that for who is thinking about using this.

Woud you like i put you admin ?

Thanks for your help, guy. ;)

towermatt 08-31-2007 08:00 PM

My pleasure, go ahead and give me admin privileges if you like. I would be happy to poke around and see if I can fix it.

So i tried to remove things from the page and finally i managed to Show the map correctly including the markers and all the rest info.
The thing i did is going to my templates and i edited the VBGOOGLEMAPME template by removing the $footer in the end of the file.

I still doesnt know why the footer does the tricks (i try now to remove elements from footer) to the Addon but honestly im damn happy that all working fine.. i suppose some hack or addon interfears with the API or something simillar.

The same trick for me worked for the HotSpot Edition also and the only problem i have now in both addons is the if you add Greek things in your Entry they show in the map as Japanese... well i suppose i can leave with this for a bit of time.

I hope i helped some people.

Hi,
This single reference, out of 32 pages, regarding the deletion of the $footer from the vbgooglemapme template has sorted my installation, thanks a million. Although I have absolutely no idea why it makes the markers appear...

Thanks again.

Hi :)

I don't know why you have this error ?

It works fine for me.

Hum, you can also access to the member map edition thanks to the link at the right of the home page (this column is intituled "Bonus des forums"). :)

The link is "Carte des membres", under iSpy. ;)

towermatt 09-03-2007 04:19 PM

I'll give it a try.

Have you tried the solve above. Getting rid of the $footer in that template?

VBGOOGLEMAPME

I did and it did NOT work.

Where is the author during all of this? Seems his update has an embedded error which is probably caused by a very simple oversight/coding error.

Sure would like to hear what he has to say about why this update has rendered all of our plugins inop.

towermatt 09-06-2007 04:30 PM

Did you try the "markers" fix Doc?

I agree with the statement on the designer but its nice to have a few options to try

Yes tried both the markers and footer fixes, neither worked. This had been working well for a long time through several updates until this one.

msudawgs64 09-08-2007 02:08 AM

forgive me if this has been asked and if so just point me to the post itself but why would the pins just stop showing up? I installed this early this week and for pretty much the entire week they were there, members were adding their info and it was giving the correct pin color based on user group so I know I installed it correctly, but when I look today, no pins but the users are all still there. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Julrou 09-09-2007 07:54 AM

Towermatt, stonyarc, any ideas for this problem ?

I'm really bored with this... :/

These issues have been around since the deadly update which killed display of pins. No one seems to have a good appreciation for the problem or sense of urgency to fix.

I think the developers must be on vacation, so until a good fix, I will disappointedly have to uninstall.

Reinhart 09-09-2007 03:11 PM

Any word on the "Show on Map" and FindMe features not zooming in on coordinates problem yet?

Maybe I missed it in the 105 pages of replies.

I noticed 5-10 people having the same problem though.
