Does this work with 3.5.3?

forumsoup.com 02-05-2006 10:58 PM

I'm confused on where to upload the files. The readme is too confusing on it. Like all other mods it should say "admin/blahblha" root/blahblah. But it doesnt. Where am I suppose to put all of these files?

Hi, I installed this today on 3.5.3, and had the same issue.

The link in the test e-mail sent the invitee to

http://www.xxxxxxx.net/register.php?...a0c8acfd7e697d

instead of

http://www.xxxxxxx.net/forums/regist...a0c8acfd7e697d

Please advise! Thanks!

forumsoup.com 02-06-2006 04:06 PM

Can some one tell me what folders to put the invite files in?

IML8RU2 02-06-2006 05:26 PM

We're still getting the message "You must be invited....." even after the person clicks on the link in the invite email. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Natalie

IML8RU2 02-06-2006 05:30 PM

When I click on the link it goes to:

http://www.xxx.org/forums/register.p...271f763c4fc7ed

Then when I check that I accept the rules and click Register, it goes to:

http://www.xxx.org/forums/register.php

Is that right? It's still not letting the person register.

akanevsky 02-06-2006 05:34 PM

Yes it does work on 3.5.3.

forumsoup.com 02-06-2006 05:59 PM

I'm confused now. Is this like GMAIL where you make your bulletin INVITE ONLY? Or is it where the bulletin is open to everyone and if you have some one who likes the place, they use the invite for to tell one of their friends?

darian 02-07-2006 02:37 PM

Just turned invites off until I get a solution to the link back to register.php problem. :disappointed:

its probably because in you rvb options

instead of using . domain.com/forum your only using domain.com check that out it should fix your problem

shortbus1662 02-07-2006 03:07 PM

couple of problems here.

Mainly, when it takes someone to the register screen after recieving an invite, the "referrer" field is blank.

Shouldn't this mod populate that field so they don't have to fill it in?

If not, won't this lead to people leaving it blank or misspelling the referrer name?

Thanks

Thanks for that - it worked. :)

(I saw a few others had asked the question previously, and seemed not to get an answer, so I assumed the worst.)

I still dont understand. If I have this addon, can people join my forum only if they are invited? Or is this to send people invites who dont know about the forum, or if friends want to invite their friends to join?

IML8RU2 02-07-2006 04:35 PM

Hello. I'm still looking for an answer to my previous question:

"We're still getting the message "You must be invited....." even after the person clicks on the link in the invite email. Any suggestions?"

Thanks!

It doesn't work for me at all
All the users who receive the invitation mails, when they click on the link that take to register, they will see a message like this:
Our records show that you have already registered under the name of "NAME OF THE PERSON WHO SEND THE INVITATIONS". If you have lost your password, click here. If you would like to modify your profile, click here.
It means if a user name FX sent the invitation, it will say
Our records show that you have already registered under the name of FX. If you have lost your password, click here. If you would like to modify your profile, click here.
Click Uninstall.

IML8RU2 02-08-2006 01:46 PM

For anyone who had the same problem as I did - invitees being told that they have to invited to join the forum, even when they click on the link in the invitation - I unistalled and then re-installed Invites and now it works perfectly.

Thanks Psi! I love this hack.

I think the reasons because I stayed login, when I logout and try the invitation, it works.
humm, anyway, re - click Install.

Mr.D 02-10-2006 09:39 AM

Can you tell me is it posible for admin to generate say 100 invites and then paste it some where. Will that be posible in next version? Will admin have the ability to generate invites?

Installed ;)

Also i am not familiar with cron jobs. Is there a chance to add earned invites every night at 11:59 instead of Monday?

Will it cause a big load? If it wont can you tell how must i change the second cron job...

It must of for me because my account got suspended for it:

Quote:

Okay

You were running cron.php where it overloaded the server and they suspended you.

I will get in touch with tech support and ask them what is going on... I will try to be able to get into your account so that I can look at what happened.

If nothing, a look at your database might help
Quote:

"Something happened with your site last night it appears. There was a huge load on the server, and tech support said they disabled the account."
"running cron.php hundreds of times - load was 68"

We translated the dateline and the invites was the cron running at the time, and it was the only hack with a cron I installed earlier that night. This could obviously just be an issue with my server since I don't see anyone else having this problem, and since mines free I'm not going to complain. ;)

However this system itself isn't practical for my forums, it's a great system so I wanted to try it out, but with the server problem I had and not really needed at my site I unistalled it.

I do have this hack bookmarked for a site I plan on starting this summer that I would like to have as an invite only membership....and it will be on a different server. ;)

So while it didn't work for me, great work once again psi, keep it up!

Has anyone found a work around to this:
Quote:

Make sure to turn on "Forum View" permission for guests, otherwise they won't be able to register. This won't be necessary in the next vBulletin version after 3.5.2 (a bug which Andreas promised to fix). For now - just do it.

akanevsky 02-15-2006 09:02 PM

Yes.

Install 3.5.3.

Jayphen 02-16-2006 04:35 AM

Is there an easy way for myself as the administrator to send out a batch of first invites?

I want to send out something like 100 invites, as I have just created a new invite-only forum.

MagikMuzik 02-16-2006 01:17 PM

installed, absolutely awesome system. Thanks very much for this!

Just bumping this because this system is BAD ASS!!!! But my forums are semi-pvt.

I'm concerned my users will invite someone who's been banned, a known troublemaker to the mods. I realize that if the jerk tries to sign up again, his email addy or IP address will keep them away, but I'd prefer if the invite never got sent in the first place. (Perhaps with a message explaining to the inviter, "please contact an admin for explanation.")

Is there a way for there to be some blacklist of certain email addresses that cannot receive invites? That'd help alleviate some anxiety and awkwardness on my forums.

Same thing happened to me. Turns out it wasn't happy with our default (third-party) skin for some reason. Worked fine on vBulletin's built-in one. So I rigged the invite email to "force" users into the vBulletin skin for registration, and the final confirmation email to force then back to my forum's third-party default one. (I detailed this workaround above.)

Glad it's working for ya now, though!

Just turn on "Require Unique Email Addresses" in vbulletin options, and the user wont be able to register with same email addy.

That probably has to do with different html tag placements in different skins... You have to look at it yourself, as I only support my hacks when applied to default vbulletin installation and a default skin.

Well, sure, that'll prevent them from being able to sign up, but it creates an incendiary situation when they keep getting invites from members (yet can't actually register.)

Why allow an invite to be sent when the forum is just going to reject them later on? I'd just as soon not poke the bear and piss them off. I was hoping for a more elegant way to deal with this touchy situation. Their email addies are already in the "User Banning Options -> Banned Email Addresses" ... would be great if the Invites System looked at that and helped avoid discomfort.
