B6;

Thanks so much for the update. Here's a newbie question/concern:

I've never managed a forum until now, we went live yesterday and now have about 150+ members (hopefully still growing).

My concern is, I plan on upgrading to 3.5.1 at some point this weekend, but that would mean I have to close the forum momentarily.

- What are some tips on doing this?

- What's a good way to prepare ahead of time?

- Also, I did do some slight tweaking as you might recall, how can I be 100% sure, if these updates to the templates will affect my customization?

Thanks again for help, I spent so much time getting this all right, I wouldn't want to mess it all up for the sake of upgrading.

Thanks again,

Joe

Hi joe, i would do what i do...post a warning to your members in an annoucement just to give them advance notice when the board will be down, yes close the board and you should be ok while you upgrade, some templates may not need to be reverted, check the 3.5.1 update thread for more info on this.

the I-Bulletin skin only needs to have 2 templates reverted to fall inline with 3.5.1, they are the navbar and postbit templates, 3.5.1 will tell you what template need to be reverted, this does not effect the way I-Bulletin works or looks, so you'll be ok, good luck

Check this post for more info on the templates that need to be reverted, simply meaning to take the template to it's default state.

This is very cool. I have installed all the colors.

Any chance of making a black one? or a Earth Tone one?

Also, when posting a message, there is a grey box inside of the message box? It does not cause problems, but it looks wierd. Also, it confuses my users when they quoting a previous post. Can it be removed?

Is that grey box like my screen shot?

ACP > vBulletin Options > Message Posting Interface Options (just enable standard controls) and see what happens, i would revert the postbit_legacy template on IBulletin and see what happens!, you may also have a mod installed which is doing this...

and no i wont be making anymore skins for IB...

I do not think it is a mod I have installed. I have done zero file edits in my vbb and none of my other styles are doing this. However, all of the IB styles are doing this.

I imported the style per the instructions and it appears to have worked. My icons are all appearing as missing though now... How to I resolve that?

Thanks!

B6, thanks for the info! A few final questions...and yes, newbie as usual;

1.) If I have to upload 3.5.1 to my server, isn't that essentially replacing/writing over the current installation? Also if I do this, wouldn't that like erase the 'ibulletin' folder that is inside the 'images' directory? Also I have other folders with extra smilies and icons, will these also be 'written over'?

If the answer is yes to this then, I guess what I need to do is this:

- Delete my 'forums' install folder

- Upload the new 3.5.1 forums folder and rename it to match my current install

- Upload all of the 'extra' folders including the 'ibulletin folder' and put it back in the 'images' directory

- Then run the upgrade?

2.) Also I went into ACP >> Style Manager >> and checked out the 'navbar' and postbit' templates. Remember, I did slightly 'tweak' the ibulletin style to fit my purposes:

the 'navbar' template is in the orange, color...which I guess this isn't a big deal, it was just that the template is inherited from a parent style.

What concerns me is the 'postbit' template, this shows up in the 'red' color, which means that I customized it. If so, I guess I need to compare it with the original one, see what I did and then 'redo' the change after the upgrade?

Thanks for your help!

Joe

Upload the icons into the default icon directory in the images directory, try that!
