I think this hack should be has two functions:
1. User's point should be showed in post.
2. User's point should be control user to view post.
Exp.
When a user post a new thread or replay a thread,he can select a least point to view the post.

Eh? What would be the point of that? Only users with karma > 300 can read this thread? Seem like a cool, but useless function.

I would rather reverse it, like the slashdot karma system, i.e. display only "threads with postitive karma" or "display only threads with at leas 200" karma in the thread sorting. This would, of course, require that karma is tied to posts, not user, like with slashdot and the overgrow hack.

I think only >=50 points enough.

Ok everything is done, now working on the upgrade script for those who install version1.0 :D

Tomorrow is the day..... Karma 1.2 release. We decided to skip 1.1 :) Don't ask. :D

Cool - my members are really looking forward to this new update - this hack has certainly added a new eagerness to post. I guess it will stop the posters asking who has the most Karma now - LOL - Great hack and thank you.

Karma 1.2 Release

SaintDog 03-01-2002 07:50 AM

I have it installed on a testing board and everything went smoothly on the install as well as the appearence, you did a good job, I have but a few suggestions that may make it look a little better though:

Note: These are only my personal suggestions.

1. The Pop Up Window

- If you could, I would make it follow the colors of the board, or in the least, the admin control panel colors, may make it look better than white.

- When typing in a comment for a user, I can hardly see the text I am typing in, you may want to make the text a little larger.

- I know this is fixable from plain sight, but the pop-up is overly large, a smaller box would look better imo.

2. The Postbit

- If you want to make it like overgrows hack, the images need to add on as the karma grows. Such as once a user hits 20 KP, there are 3 karma dots (admin should be able to set this). Right now I am only seeing 1 dots no matter what.

- When you click on the dot it is plural when there is 1 KP, maybe make it to where is say "user has 1 karma point" "user has 2 karma points" (just grammer ;)).

Just a few comments/suggestions to better the hack (from my personal view). I think you have done a great job so far with the hack and look to see future version of the hack when they are released.

Keep up the great work Certify!

The instructions here are all whacked...

Quote:

1. Upload to your forums directory:

- adis.php

2. Upload to your forums/admin directory:

- install_point.php(for those that have installed vbkarma version1, please upload install_point2.php)
- kpoints.php

3. Upload to your forums/images directory:

- karmabalance.gif
- karmaneg.gif
- karmapos.gif
- postkarma.gif

2. Run /admin/install_point.php(run upgrade_karma_1_0.php if you have installed the previous version)

3. Delete /admin/install_karma.php
Steps 1-2-3-2-3 ?? And the install_point files aren't in the zip, and the install_karma file can't be deleted because the instructions don't say to upload it in the first place ?

I'm confused ?? :D:D

I've installed it!! Works fine so far.

Suggestions for now...

I would like to be able to turn off comments about users's posts. I really don't want users commenting on each other, and I think some of my users will confuse it with the place to post info.

pgowder

If you do not want them to be able to post comments, just remove the link to it in the postbit, then they will not even know it is there :).
