Yes. Only images thumbnails will show up. I'm not sure if other files, such as videos, have thumbnails.

Great add-on. I found a bug in the system and I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem. I've disabled all the Products and Plug-Ins so only the "Article Forum" product is installed.

I have a forum called "Articles" with a sub-forum called "DIY". The error occurs when I am creating an article:

/newthread.php?s=&do=newthread&f=4

The bread crumb at the top appears like this:

Forums > Articles > DIY

If I click on the "DIY" link I get redirected to the page:

/articles.php?c=4

but when I click on the "Articles" link, I get redirected to the page:

/Articles instead of /articles.php.

Anyone else seeing this problem?

--Ed

I don't have the error but I think I am probably running later version of the modification.

Edit: Try attached product file.

No, still does not work, and now clicking on the forum from forumhome does not take you to the category within articles.php.

Would it have anything to do with vbseo?

Any hope for getting it to work?

any ideas on this one?

Check the permissions of the author usergroup.

Is the post being moderated, etc. and her attachment permissions.

Has it happened more than once? it could be that your server was just being slow loading that image and your browser timed out not displaying the thumbnail.

Probably not. I think there must be several incompatibilities somewhere.

glowinggal 05-26-2009 04:11 PM

a few other questions - sorry... :) as I work with it more - things come to me...

is there a way for comments to NOT show on the main pages of the article listings and just within that article/post?

When someone posts a comment it's showing in the listing of articles...

ie:

ARTICLE 1 TITLE
ARTICLE 2 TITLE
comment
ARTICLE 3 TITLE

posts = not moderated
attachment permissions = all set to allowed

This, I must say, is actually quite brilliant. And I'm not one to gush.

Just out of curiosity, when an image is too close to the top of the article, the preview of the article shows the URL to the image mixed in with the text. Is that unavoidable, or is it something that can be addressed later?

Thank you

A simple fix might be to remove all images, but this would only work if it was only images causing the problem.

maidos 05-28-2009 03:53 PM

how is it possible to add an own column(category), at the sides? is it possible you can make it easy to allow us make numbers of column with just few clicks? and also option to add an own sub page at the article page. Like if you click a link from the column it will take u to anew article page?
how do i enable bbcodes at article aswell?
becasue the article content contain url but its not clickable
The postbit looks broken with your vborg first post look-alike and pleae allow more options to hide at Article Postbit like on comment postbit =)
also it seems space and <br> doesnt work which seems to be compressed which isnt really nice to read. I intend to show full messages
Can youalso disable the article view and have a normal forum view at forumdisplay.php ?

how do i remove the title "Articles" ?
thanks

Davidhin 05-28-2009 06:53 PM

This mod is great although one slight problem, when installed all images which are uploaded to the forum filesystem show as links and not inline as they used to, this affects every forum board and not just the board I have it set the plugin to.

Try disabling 'Full Size Attachments'

AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> Article forum Options -> Full Size Attachments -> No

sub-Forums to the selected Article Forum are shown as Categories.
BB Code will parse when viewing the article.
Showing full articles on articles.php would disrupt page
Add the styleid to the Banned Styleid list in the options
You can change Articles by altering phrase in phrase manager called 'articles'

perfect! Thanks - and for anyone who wonders it - i removed:

Code:

<if condition="$thread[replycount]"><a href="showthread.php?$session[sessionurl]t=$thread[threadid]$thread[highlight]#comments"><phrase 1="$thread[replycount]">$vbphrase[x_article_replies]</phrase></a></if>

glowinggal 05-29-2009 12:41 PM

* can i move the thanks button to the top for the article or in the author's box instead or in addition to the one that is there already? our articles tend to be quite long so it would be nice to have it at the top too.

* also what about putting a "back to the top" function or button somewhere; i have the code and image to do it since we use it in our forums already - just need to know where to place my "back to the top" code :)

"printable version" with vbSEO enabled not working:

http://www.siteurl.com/forum/thread/print-thread_id%-titleofarticle.html

Digital Jedi 05-29-2009 02:15 PM

I just noticed something. In IE you get a broken image placecard holder when an article doesn't have a corresponding image. Do all the articles require an image to prevent this?

Mustang Sally 05-29-2009 03:29 PM

Could someone tell a newbie how to install this?? Please. I'm nervous I will mess something up.:o

Installation:
  1. Upload articles.php
  2. Import product file
  3. Create a forum in admincp
  4. Go to vBulletin Options->Article forum Options

It's possible but would require a query for every profile page

There is a modification which add 'To the top' button to every post.

To your forum root. That's the directory where your forum is physically installed.

Searched back through your posts, but I can't quite seem to find it. At least, not for this specific problem. Is it part of another solution you showed someone? Sorry, I can usually find this stuff pretty easily.

glowinggal 05-30-2009 10:40 AM

one other question - what if I want to put banner ads JUST in the articles section by placing code directly into it somewhere ie: under the profile at the right - before the article post or after, or under the categories on the left, etc. THANKS!

Mustang Sally 05-30-2009 11:22 AM

Thanks for the help!!:) I got it.:o

Yes, but is there an option to have bbcode active all the time please? i want it to be active o articles.php. Im not exactly sure what you mean by disrupting i mean if you have bbcode active it wouldnt be disrupted wouldit? im not sure on that.

but my members has already complained that the text is compressed and get annoyed reading the article. So having bbcode active and withbr active is essential for me. Because my users do not clickfurther instead they prefer readin the article directly.
I cant findthe phrase Article. i tried searchin but couldnt find it

Yes but giving us the ability tocreate an own category without creating uncessary forums would be nice consider if we only want to create category with hyperlinks, a customized page that is located within the article and not redirecting to the forums.
thanks

That would be a different type of modification altogether.

Edit template* and use the following code:

HTML Code:

<if condition="$articleforum">Html code here</if>
*For comments edit template postbit or postbit_legacy

For article edit template af_firstpost

Or under categories edit template af_left_alt or af_left_alt

Hi Bananalive and thanks for this awesome hack.

When you release an update can we please have also few vbseo rules for rewrite?

Thanks,
Val.

Fantastic mod, I hit the mod of the month button so hard that my fingers hurt!! Ace stuff!!

Will this mod be compatible in any form with vBadvanced in the future? I would like to use the article page as our homepage. Love the layout!

Keep up the great work bananaman :D
