Also when I try to go to those users profile who created their account using facebook, getting this db error;

I think the problem occurs because you guys ask for the user's birthday during registration. I'll try to get a fix out soon, but I would suggest you disable this mod for now

No problems, will do.

Yes we do ask for user birthday, due to coppa rulings.
Would it not be easier for a facebook user, to gain access to a special JOIN form, that is essentially our normal register form, minus username and password bit... surely the db would be propogated with site required db fields for traditional user registration then.

The thing is that users under the age of 13 are not allowed to register with facebook anyways, so there is no need for age verification.

Outstanding addon.... the only thing I can see missing is pulling in userdata to the profile (to make the synced account have a bit more real info about the person... would be especially useful since most people take the time to fill out their facebook profiles)

also i might have missed this but once your facebook and vbulletin account are synced is there a place where individual users can go to opt in or opt out out of the new post/thread writing to their wall feature. i would want to turn it on but i would imagine some of our people would not want their facebook accounts overrun with vbulletin postings.

i read through the whole thread but have yet to install it but i probably will soon.

Hi mate.

We have disabled the plugin now. Until we get the issue resolved, it could be a usergroup permissions thang.

We have copied attributes for usergrp 2 ( registered users ) to new Facebook usergroup.

New members via facebook, were indeed registered to usergroup 16 ( facebook grp ) but this is where the system crapped itself, and we got database errors.

Its always something simple that manifests itself to be the most complicated to fix lol

What is the difference between "New (IEN) Thread Reply Notification" and "New Subscribed Thread Reply Notification" ?

My users are getting messages for every new post with the first one set to yes and the second to no.

tpearl5 12-16-2008 09:16 PM

Also, on the facebook page it is throwing this error:

Code:

Parse errors:

FBML Error (line 1): illegal tag "noscript" under "fb:canvas"

CSS Error (line 276 char 22): Unknown property.: 'SCROLLBAR-BASE-COLOR'  Declaration dropped.

CSS Error (line 277 char 23): Unknown property.: 'SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR'  Declaration dropped.

FBML Error (line 388): illegal tag "body" under "fb:canvas"

Seems to be working on my board. The home page no redirects to forum home upon login (I previous had to set up a redirect to make that happen). So far so good.

Essentially from what I gather.

User logs out of your forum.

Logs into Facebook, then can fire up the forum, and on logging in will be asked if they want to sync with facebook.. kinda weird explanation, but AFAIK thats how it integrates.

They have the option, as an existing user, to fire up the forum under their existing username and pass.

Now that they have facebook & your forum in sync, when a post or message is sent via the forum it displays in their facebook profile, etc.

The bonus is that users on facebook, who are friends of your member as a facebook user, then have the opportunity to join your forum, and vice versa.

As I have never used facebook, im not sure how the protocol works with permissions and privacy, but am sure that its all good.

I do have some basic function, queries, such as "ignoring a user on facebook" does this transfer to your forum too?

Anyhoo.. will await a fix for the new-user login stuff from the coder.

Reply to the guy: clear IE files? pmsl... im not sure what use that has for preventing database crash due to inadequate login bridge

How are you finding , new users signing in to your forum, via facebook. and bypassing signup process for VB ?

That is where we are failing

Digital Jedi 12-17-2008 05:02 AM

I only have one mandatory signup requirement and that's a custom field, so they'll be prompted to fill that in as soon as they log in.

Do you have birthdays required in your vB Options? If so, they will be required to fill that in the next time they try to edit their profile.

i give up. anyone want to check for me on their end? http://www.sirenssociety.com.

i was the second or third person to install this when sllik first published it, and it worked. but ever since he bridged it for existing users, i get nothing. nada. zilch.

i've cleared my history and cache. whenever i click on the facebookconnect, nothing happens. both in IE and FF.

i've also uninstalled it and reverted the templates. and i reinstalled it. twice.

any clues?

Open up your forum for guest so they can view the forumhome, then try to login. then standard login page may be missing the footer code.

johnxarce 12-17-2008 08:50 AM

wow thanks for this i love this mod

stamos2003 12-17-2008 10:38 AM

with the new version I put (1.1.3) it does not hang anymore at the login redirect page,
neither it logs me in though.
it goes until the login redirector and afterwards i am still not logged in :-|

Is anyone else noticing that they're getting notifications in facebook for every new post whether they're subscribed to it or not?

maybe turn this off?

New Own Thread Reply Notification
Send a Facebook notification to the user when there is a new reply to own thread?

aggiefan 12-17-2008 01:15 PM

also something else that was brought up as a concern is how does this work when you do a mass email? we only send out one or maybe 2 mass emails a year but we would like to be able to still do that and not sure how facebook would like that since this is storing the facebook proxy email.

also related to my above feature suggestion.... when/if you get the personal data part working i would also like to see some sort of cron job setup where it resyncs the data every so often just because in general people update their facebook info more than any forum system ive ever seen and it would be nice to pull that data down when its updated.

TriMe 12-17-2008 01:44 PM

This goes for both FF and IE

Depending on your callback url - if your callback url is http://yoursite.com/ then to use this mod you need to go to http://yoursite.com and vice versus.

On my site I have http://www.globalhockeynetwork.com/ as the callback url so if I go to my site using http://www.globalhockeynetwork.com everything works.

If I use http://globalhockeynetwork.com - I get the error in the attachment.

Check out this page to set rewrites in your .htaccess file to automatically direct to one or the other

soulface, you are brilliant!

I now remember i deleted the footer fron the standard_error page because I didn't like the formatting of it. So now, I just entered the fb code for the footer onto that page and it works.

Thanks!

New Own Thread Reply Notification
Send a Facebook notification to the user when there is a new reply to own thread?

Actually, turning off both

"New (IEN) Thread Reply Notification
Send a Facebook notification to the user when there is a new reply to a thread that the user is subscribed to with instant email notification?"
and
"New Subscribed Thread Reply Notification
Send a Facebook notification to the user when there is a new reply to a thread that the user is subscribed to?"

seems to stop members from getting a notification on every reply.
Either option doesn't appear to be doing what is advertised as the user should only get a notification to subscribed threads, right?
