I'm new to vbulletin, so please be gentle with me if I did something stupid here. I installed this exactly as specified, but I hit "run now" for the update invites count" in the scheduled task manager, and got this error:

Warning: Division by zero in /includes/cron/update_invitecounts.php on line 79

It hasn't given any invites out at all. What did I do?

opteek 01-10-2006 11:55 PM

download the hack again and reupload the file update_invitecounts.php

Thanks, but I allready did that twice and got the same error. :disappointed:

opteek 01-11-2006 03:50 AM

Do you have 0 set for number of posts to recieve 1 invite? That would do it.

That would be a really stupid mistake, wouldn't it?

That is exactly what I did. :speechless: Thank you for helping.

Edit, oops, I made sure nothing is set to zero anymore, and I am still getting the same error. Apparently, that wasn't the fix I needed.

IrPr 01-11-2006 08:32 PM

opteek 01-11-2006 10:04 PM

Is no one else having this problem with people getting too many or negative invitations?

akanevsky 01-11-2006 11:38 PM

Negative invitations are by design :)
As for too many, you need to set up the minimum amount of reputations and/or posts to receive new invitations.

opteek 01-12-2006 02:55 AM

Look man, I do have the settings configured properly. My settings are:

Invite System: Enabled
Registration by Inivites Only: Enabled
Mutual Buddies: Enabled
Image Verification: Enabled
Invite Expiration: 7
Min Posts to recieve changes in invites: 24
Min Reputation to Recieve Invites: -1
Invite Changes on Reputation: 1
Posts required to recieve One invite: 50

Now, people who have more than 24 posts are recieving 7 invites, when they should be recieving zero. This is due to your code, which starts invite_increment at 7 and subtracts 1 for every day inactive. So people that are active every day, yet make no posts or have any reputation changes are recieving 7 invites!!

Also, the user who recieved -11 invites had 3 posts in the last week and had NO reputation changes.

This is obviously not right; I have redownloaded your update_invitecounts.php file and verified that I am using the exact same file...

IrPr 01-12-2006 08:37 AM

is it possible to add a decline link to email contents that person whom invited can decline invite ?

software-help 01-12-2006 09:56 AM

Not sure if I have missed a part :( I have double checked but my test invite that I sent only shows as pending nothing is being sent ???

Any ideas guys ??

IML8RU2 01-15-2006 09:52 PM

Hi. I'm new to all of this so may sound a bit stupid. :nervous:

I need help with the templates - can anyone give me a step by step instruction on how to install them? I've installed the program already but don't know how to make the template changes.

Thanks.

Natalie

opteek 01-15-2006 11:09 PM

In the admincontrol panel, search for templates in whatever style you want to modify. You can find whatever templates you want to customize that way. Then, click on Customize, or edit of the template is already customized. Find the code you're looking for, and replace it with the code you want. Presto

IML8RU2 01-16-2006 12:02 AM

Thanks! That worked perfectly.

Okay, I have installed everything, and maybe I'm blind, but I just cannot see how I actually invite anyone. Can anyone tell me.

Yawn.......it's late and I've been on this too long.

Natalie

bogene2020 01-16-2006 12:29 AM

Does this hack work like Evites . Thanks

Replicators 01-16-2006 01:45 AM

A addon should be made to when a certain amount of people have registered the forum will automatically lock itself

IML8RU2 01-18-2006 04:44 AM

Okay - really, I'm feeling like an idiot, but I need some help.

I followed all the steps to install - as far as I can tell I've done everything correctly. What I can't see is how I actually invite people. Where do I go? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

TTG 01-18-2006 04:49 AM

Go to usercp :)

EricaJoy 01-21-2006 05:14 PM

Checking for email addresses that are already used on the board and translating them to show the members name would be nice. That way people who are already members don't get spammed to death with invites from board members.

akanevsky 01-22-2006 11:04 AM

So how can we make sure that only "direct" invites are valid?
There's no way I can think of.

What you suggested is pointless because you can easily edit your profile before you have your e-mail confirmed.

As for e-mail check, I'll implement that.

il send you my code to get it working... pm me or message me on msn... would be great if the html mail worked with all the IM's... Also il help you insert avatar codes / refferal codes etc.. which could benefit the users in extra points or whatever... they will want to get friends signing up then by accepting the invites etc... :squareeyed:

We did a full update to 3.5.3 with the hopes of initiating this excellent invite system, without having to turn on "Forum View" permission for guests (per Psionic Vision's note in the readme.html.)

But we're still having one issue with it: when an invitee clicks the email link to log in, they are told "You must be invited in order to be able to register on our board. Have a nice day."

(This happens despite the fact that the invitee is using the same link they were invited with.)

Now, we've set this as our forum's default skin. It's a integral part of our forum's atmosphere and focus.

I notice that if the invitee uses the QuickStyle Chooser to switch to vBulletin's Default theme upon invite, then the invite goes through and then they can continue with the registration properly. I've tested it all the way through and it works, keeps referral's name intact and everything. It just doesn't work if the user doesn't manually change the style first with the QuickStyle Chooser pull-down below.

So is this is an issue specifically with our third party skin, and is there a workaround? Would this have anything to do with the "Forum View" permission issue in 3.5.2 and earlier?

I'd hate to have to change our default skin now back to vBulletin just to work around this, yet it's the only thing now standing in our way. I also don't see a way to set the default skin for solely the "Unregistered / Not Logged In" usergroup back to vBulletin... as that would have been an acceptable workaround too.

Now, we tried appending "&styleid=1" to the end of the invite link, in invites_letter, as that "forced" them in with the vBulletin original skin. But then the cookie is set, and they eventually validate their email and their account is approved, they log back in and they are still in the vBulletin original skin. :ermm: I'd like for them to welcomed inside with our customized skin, of course.

Any assistance with this last speedbump would be mightily appreciated.

jimbocook 01-28-2006 03:13 PM

Love this system! but although I have image verification on and can see the image in the control panel it's not being used during the registration process (for regular registrations OR referrals). The registration process still works, just no image verification.

I don't know if it just broke or broke some time ago. Since I personally haven't tested it in quite some time until I installed this.

Any ideas?

Tralala 01-28-2006 05:34 PM

WRT this setting: "How many days should be allowed until an invite is marked as "expired" and can no longer be used?"

Does that "expiration" apply to the time a current member has, to use the invites they've gotten? (ie: overriding the natural loss that comes from a sinking reputation.)

Or does it apply to the time once it's sent out from a current member to a new prospective forum participant, for the new person to use it?

Tralala 01-30-2006 01:40 PM

On my board I've set the AdminCP's Invite prefs so that "Invites Change on Reputation" is disabled completely. (We prefer a small and slow-building board, so we'd rather have mods update invites manually, or give everyone one invite once a week or whatever.)

However, despite me disabling it via the prefs, the cron job kicked off today and gave everyone lots of invites.

I just deleted the cron job to counteract the bug. Just figured I'd give you a heads up. Thanks for the great hack!

RGSMDNR 01-31-2006 10:59 PM

i have my ucash set to award cash to who ever gets a referral, is there something to integrate the two?

DJDarknez 02-01-2006 06:30 AM

OK, when I send out a test invite, it works. However, the link back to register.php is wrong. Where do I change this at?

cd1986 02-03-2006 12:21 AM

Maybe this has already been asked, but is there no way to be able to limit the number of invites when registration by invite only is disabled?

There are spam worries on one of my board, but we don't want registration to only be possible through invitation.

Mr.D 02-05-2006 09:22 AM

I got a question When will the new version be of invite system and what will be ini it. Will it be the option for admin to send invites by usergroup say i want to send a 100 invites to every users in special usergroup.

IML8RU2 02-05-2006 05:13 PM

I am having a registration problem. When I send an invite out, the person clicks on the link, enters the site and goes to the Forum Rules page. Right above the Rules box you have to check their is the coding ut type="hidden" name="do" value="register" /> Then, when they click the I Agree box it takes them to a page saying that they must be invited to join.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Natalie

akanevsky 02-05-2006 05:22 PM

Yes. Make sure you copy and paste the WHOLE code from each window.

IML8RU2 02-05-2006 05:48 PM

Thanks for the quick reply. I've corrected the code so that I don't get the code above the Rules box anymore, but we still get the page saying that you need to be invited to join, even though they clicked on the link in the invite email.

I've made sure the Forum Permissions are put to Yes to view forums for Unregistered Users - should I be looking somewhere else. Any other suggestions?

Thanks! It's a great hack and I'm looking forward to using it fully.

**Editing to say I'm using 3.5.3

Natalie
