Thanks for your speedy reply. I understand that I'll need to link up to your site to get hold of the authorizing code before I can install it. However, I would like to test it on a seperate site which I use for development, will I need to repeat that process if I decide to use it for the live site?

Thanks.

No problem at all.

As for the authorizing code, typically you would have to go through that step but I do believe there is a chance I could do it for you if you messaged me here or at network.zoints.com. I would have to get the live forum information (forum title, forum description, tags and directory to be listed in... the last three if you would want your forum placed in our directory of forums) as well as the development forum information (so I could locate it to edit it.)

That's great. I'll PM you later on once I've tried it out.

In the nav bar in the profile section, there is a link for communities that goes to communities outside my website. I do not like this. How can I take the communities link off the nav bar?

I would have bought it if they bring out a commercial version without ads and separate from their servers! and universal adaption to vb's default templates.

Hi tryance,

I am afraid you are not allowed to do so as that would be in violation of using Zoints Local. We understand that some may not like it and may not choose to use it because of that

Hi vnairp.

Ads do not come with Zoints Local. Links to Zoints.com are included, but there is nothing esoteric like the traditional thought of what an advertisement is. As for being on our servers, member profiles are not stored in our servers from Zoints Local. You would be connected, thus why we are a network, but if your forum closed down or you removed your forum from Zoints, we would have no more access to your profiles than we do right now (which is zero.) Zoints.com members can search for members in the network and find links to forum members, which only helps forums, but they are simply that, links.

I tried it out today and it was relatively easy to install. But I realised how much re-styling was required to match the rest of the site. It doesn't pick up the main forum style unfortunately. I'm not really prepared to put in that much work for profile enhancement at the moment.

Also, I feel that there's too much 'brand interference'. I understand that Zoint would naturally want to promote their own brand but things like the intro message when members first log on to the profile seems to be slightly over the top. It may confuse the users as well since as far as they're concerned they've simply gone to their own profile (which is very much part of the site). As someone mentioned above, I'd rather spend money and buy the commercial version too keep it brand free.

So I think I'll either look into some other mods or wait till vb's social networking plug-in comes out. Thanks for your help Reid.

For most styles, it does pick up the style in the full form. Now extremely complicated styles (which are rare by what I mean) can be a bit tricky, but often time it just involves optimizing the style's code.

As for brand interference, we want to assure members of their privacy and it is a one time message that I haven't heard from any owners (or members of my own site) to be a great detraction.

But like I said before, Zoints is not for everyone and if there is a better solution for you, you should take it. Thanks for the consideration regardless girlspeedo and I hope you find what you need for your forum.

Zoints Local 1.0.4 Released

We strongly encourage all current users of Zoints Local to upgrade to version 1.0.4. This release solely corrects a few potential security flaws we recently discovered. It is not the same as our upcoming feature-rich release mentioned in August. Given the nature of the 1.0.4 release being based around security, we encourage all users to upgrade now and not to wait for the feature-rich release.

To upgrade, please overwrite the modified files mentioned in the upgrade.txt file located in the zip file under the latest release (1.0.4)

If you have any difficulties with the upgrade procedure, do not hesitate to let us know as we want all forums to be as secure as possible.

The previously mentioned feature-rich release, Zoints Local 1.1 is nearing its run through the development process and will soon be released to our Quality Assurance team for final testing before releasing it to the rest of the community.

Once again, we appreciate your continued support and we hope to remain ahead of the curve while offering you the support that you deserve.
