It will be nice to have custom fields for the blogs, so we can customize it a little more.... and a better way to upload images for moods, and maybe some easy way to let user (and the admin) to customize the templates... like colors, and tables order and that stuff.

attroll 10-29-2005 02:50 AM

I decided to install this into my test site. I have to admit I like it but there is one thing I need it to be able to do that others may not need. I need to be able to be put in a date order. Let me explain and maybe someone can help me find a way around it.

My site is set up for people hiking in the USA on the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. What the hikers do is send home journals while they are doing their hike for a friend to post. This is usually a six or seven month hike so there could be as many as 300 entris to type in. But sometimes the journals do not come in order. Sometimes they get lost in the mail. So if the person on the end getting the journals is missing the first week of the hike but gets the second weeks journals in the mail and types the whole second weeks hike in the journal on the web site and then the first weeks journals come in the mail at a later date and the person types in the first week journals. Now they are not in the order that they were written in from the trail. So I need a way to make them go in the proper order if some of the journals come at a later date.

Is there a way to make this work for me. If there is then this would be exactly what I can use.

Sinistra 10-29-2005 02:12 PM

OK I found a new glitch when you post characters like & " " and some others it changes into

& &
" "

Any way to fix this?

Where is this zip file? I downloaded the zip file in this thread from the first post and saw nothing about that.

Assuming OK = Oblivion Knight

This is what he is mentioning: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=326

:)

attroll 10-29-2005 05:04 PM

Yes I found that post and that was what he was refering to.

But this still does not work the way I want. You can only sort by the date that the post was made.

What I am saying is if I start typing a journal for myself and I type one every day of the week, which is Monday through Sunday. If I type the whole week and forget to type Wednesday's journal. Then there is no what to go back and type in Wednesday's journal and have it show up in order.

This is fixed in my Alpha 5 release, which should be available by Monday.

So you're basically requesting a feature whereby you can set the entry date and time?

This can be done.. :)

I think just and entry date would work. That would be awesome. How hard would that be to do?

attroll 10-29-2005 06:39 PM

Oblivion Knight

I do have some other request and suggestions. Should I post them here or send them to you in a PM first?

I'll aim to make it an option for Alpha 5.

Ok you asked for it.

Here is what I would like to see:

I would like to be able to categorize the journals so that when you click on journals then they will also be listed by the year that they were started. My site if I install the journals will need to be that way. We are going to have journals for users that hike the Appalachian Trail and there will most likely be tons of journals and they will be posted by the year the person hiked. So I need it to come up with the listing by years. Then after they pick the year have it list the users in alphebical order that have journals for that year.

I could give you more options I would like to see but I will let you read this one first and see if you understand what I mean.

Okay, I haven't been keeping up with this recently, so I'm a bit confused, what/where is Alpha 5 and whos hack is this now, have you taken it over OBK ?

trackpads 10-29-2005 10:16 PM

OK, please add support for the WYSIWYG editor and attachments.

Thanks for all the hard work on this!!

Sorry, I meant WYSIWYG in the edit page and attachments for new entries.

Thanks!

I noticed that when creating a new journal you have the field "Now Playing:". I tried typing in a music file here. But it does not seem to play when viewing the journal. Is this what this is for?

Oblivion Knight 10-30-2005 06:10 AM

The feature requests have been noted, and hopefully I can add them shortly.

Alpha 5 will be the next build (unofficial) of vBJournal.

Currently, this remains to be AN-net's hack which Andreas has ported to 3.5.0. I'm just helping move things along for Andreas' eventual takeover of it when it will be renamed "Kirblog".

No. The "Now Playing" feature simply displays what the journalist is currently listening to when writing the entry..

Maybe it should be change to "Now Listening to:". I just went in and change mine to that.

You want some more journal inputs:

If you go back and edit the Title of the post in your journal then the title from the comments that other users have made stays to what the old thread title was. It does not change to the new title.

It would be nice to be able to have your own profile picture in the journal rather then an avatar.

Have the option to view the journals in thread format with just the headers/titles or in the current view with all the entries on the page.

Allow users to subscribe to a person journal. This way they get an email when a new entry is submitted.

Tha is all for now. I don't want to swamp you with suggestions.

This is the correct behaviour. Users may enter an alternative comment title than "Re: <entry title>" so updating this automatically would be rather tricky, although not entirely impossible..

Nice hack. Question - is the data available in external.php or are there plans to have a separate feed from the journals?

I'm hoping to get Cloud-Warrior's RSS feed addon working for Alpha 5.

I never liked the VB external it is based on forum permissions where it should have been based on usergroups or user or forum permissions. I ended up writing my own but I was hoping that the journal might have its own feed

Andy R 10-30-2005 11:52 PM

I just installed this and when I go to the usergroup edit screen to set permissions, now I am getting the following error:
Quote:

Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /includes/class_core.php on line 635

Andreas 10-31-2005 12:20 AM

You installed it incorrectly.

Andy R 10-31-2005 12:23 AM

I think I accidentaly installed the product before uploading the files. Any suggestions on how I can get things fixed?

Sinistra 10-31-2005 12:26 AM

upload the files run the pruduct again. and enable overwrite. That should fix it

Andy R 10-31-2005 01:04 AM

Ok, I made sure all products were uploaded and re-imported via the Add/Import Product page with overwrite selected. I am still getting the same error. Any suggestions on how to either remove this product or get it working from here would be much appreciated...

As always in such cases:
admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields

That did the trick. Thanks for all your help, I am looking forward to getting vBJournal setup.

Ummm can't see anything with the jorunal disabled

webspider 11-01-2005 04:50 PM

I have this hack installed and it works great. I also have your minimum user age hack that is absolutely terrific. My suggestion is to allow users set a minimum viewing age on their Journals or an age restriction of creating / viewing journals.

HAd to disable it. It was causeing a database error everytime someone tried to click a thread.

Andreas 11-01-2005 08:32 PM

It would help if you could post a bugreport with the exact error you got.

Flow Fusion 11-01-2005 08:35 PM

I did thanks.

It seems like really interresting!
Gonna give it a try^^

Thanks ;)

OK I went into my test forum and installed the vJournal and went into the database and copied all the tables and placed them into my forums. But, now when I try to activate vJournal none of the fields stay selected. And when I try to view the journal index I get...

Hello, plz a question:

I see that its an alpha version, that means that it will not work for sure? Is it better to wait a bit for this you think ?(i see that as an ideal "blog" system" but dont know if its safe to install it right now)

Thnx in advance
