I'm having the same problem but, humbly I admit, I don't understand your answer. Can you give a step by step for disabling all other users of global_start? Thanks!

jetblast10 05-14-2006 01:06 PM

diregard - I figured it out! this rocks!

daviet 05-14-2006 04:48 PM

One thing to watch out for, I have a private forum setup but on installation of Miserable users, in testing if I assigned a user to be in the new 'miserable users' usergroup, the user was able to see a forum that was marked Private and read the messages within. Otherwise the hack works great, thanks!

I rebuilt forum information in Update Counters and then had to edit the Forum Permissions for the Private forum, setting 'miserable users' usergroup to "All No".

This is more an issue with adding new usergroups in vbulletin than the miserable users hack itself.

Hehe, I even tested it on myself. Works great!

This is a very usefull Plug Inn, but to make it perfect, would be nice to link the lucky user with the cookie on AE detector so if the user takes a new username will get miserable status again...
Just a tought.
Regards...

dodgechargerfan 05-16-2006 02:08 PM

You can specify an IP address as well as a username - so if they are trying to use a different username from the the same IP address - you've got them covered both ways. No need to link AE detector ->which is another nice mod that I use...

Yes, but the problem here is too many dynamic IP's and guys who use cable I get a bunch of people sharing IP's using cable.
What I do now is to detect the new user with AE detector and apply the miserable status..
Regards...

You would need to ask the author of the AE hack to add the ability to move detected users to another usergroup.

Paul,

I think I speak for all of us when I say this mod will not be complete until we can tap into their webcams and see the frustration on their faces. I'll be waiting for your response.

Thanks,

CH

P.S. Seriously, you're evil and I like it. Keep on, keepin' on!

snowbird 05-25-2006 01:58 PM

Sorry if it's been asked, or if it is too stupid a question to have been asked previously :) But does this product have any down-side on server load or any other drawbacks?

Paul M 05-25-2006 05:56 PM

No it doesn't (and I think it's been asked before :)).

jruerph 06-05-2006 04:02 AM

I've been eyeing this hack for a couple of months now, but with a fairly new forum, I didn't have a need for it until yesterday. Some A** Hole has been spamming away on my forum. In a way I had it coming because I used a link in my sig on his board, but I did it professionally w/o mentioning my site in my post. I just contributed to the community and left a sig with a link for those interested. The next day he retaliates with posts totally promoting his forum while attempting to put mine down. I of course would have been tolerant if left a sig and contributed to my forum, but his post are totally self promoting.

Anyway thanks for the hack, where do I contribute?;)

FLMom 06-05-2006 11:39 PM

Needed this for the first time tonight! Just installed :D Thanks for your hard work

redlabour 06-08-2006 04:12 PM

Will it work in the Future with vBulletin 3.6 ?

HabboLand 06-08-2006 05:02 PM

lmao my users are now owned

AMFMaree 06-08-2006 10:42 PM

I can not get it to work on usergroups, but it does work on IP.. what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

AMFMaree 06-10-2006 12:27 AM

UPDATE... I used this hack.. and the person is still posting.. god knows how.. I tried it on my own account and I had to change it back real quick.. GRRR

Paul M 06-10-2006 06:03 PM

They are obviously very patient and persistant.

blackdream1971 06-12-2006 08:18 PM

hey Paul will this hack work on version 3.0.6?

if not is their a version of this hack for 3.0.6?

Paul M 06-12-2006 08:38 PM

There is a 3.0.x version by Kirafire, it's listed in the similar threads at the bottom of the page.

thanx man.

tommyxv 06-15-2006 08:17 PM

Paul, You have this for 3.6 yet?:surprised:

Paul M 06-15-2006 08:35 PM

This should work "as is" in 3.6.

Eq4bits 06-20-2006 01:13 AM

love this! one question tho...
since I'm periodically changing the %'s for the various events and also changing one particular person from being a member of this usergroup to another... that person isn't getting an email from the forum telling him/her that he/she has been added to the miserable usergroup is he/she?

Paul M 06-20-2006 02:21 AM

Standard vbulletin does not send e-mails when you change a members usergroup.

Eq4bits 06-20-2006 06:14 PM

*whew* for some reason I thought it did... when you changed or added them to one.

Is there a hack for that, though? Been looking actually and didn't see anything.

BTW - this Hack is the greatest thing for crap posters ever. I don't have any issues yet, but I have my finger over the install button for this one when the day comes!! :D

Rick Grunwald 06-25-2006 05:32 PM

To the author: I LOVE this hack!!

To the rest of you: It's supposed to save time so that YOU are not wasting time chasing idiots
However if you DO have some extra time to waste on that "special" idiot try alternating bertween miserable user and the "tachy goes to Coventry" thing ... some days your board will be running fine and fast! Then move him back:devious:

lucky123 06-27-2006 11:02 PM

Loaded this yesterday and tried it out on a fake user.

IT WORKED PERFECT!!

thank you

Zelos 07-05-2006 02:19 AM

How would I create a hidden usergroup, so members wouldn't see that they're now part of a group called "miserable"?

Ncturnal 07-05-2006 02:28 AM

Edit the group properties and set the option "Viewable on Show Groups" to no.

We will test and double check this for you tomorrow Paul :)

Bubble #5 07-06-2006 12:23 AM

Paul I'm guessing that this works with 3.6 B3 because when we tested it we couldn't even log in

All we got was a message saying "can?t open the page http://www.website.com/forum/index.php. The error was: ?lost network connection" :bunny:

Paul M 07-06-2006 07:32 AM

I don't think MU could cause that to happen.

Bubble #5 07-06-2006 05:18 PM

Well it happened immediately after assigning MU to the member, and it went away immediately after we took it off, so cool... looks like there's a new feature under 3.6 :bunny:

:p

Zelos 07-12-2006 03:48 AM

I'm also curious as to whether or not this will work in the final release version of 3.6...

Paul M 07-12-2006 04:15 AM

I see no reason why not, but there will be a 3.6 release as well.

Muellmann 07-14-2006 04:24 PM

thanks Paul M. it's very excellent mod for trolls, i pressed install and i will enjoy it.
i tested it and it runs fine! i have many trolls maybe it will heal them

fatal1980 07-23-2006 07:15 AM
