Too bad. There is no sense in upgrading to vb4 with vb5 around the corner.

will upgraded it for vb5 when it is released, but i won't do it for vb3. In keeping vB5 mind, i am using jquery for most of javascript functions otherwise i am very good in YUI.

Review is a standalone script (i mean it doesn't uses too many hooks) so only template changes will be required for vB5.

Doesn't makes much sense to request a solution for vB4 and switch back to vB3 now...
Especially there is an existing solution for vB3.

Is the given time frame still valid? (end of month)

Alfa1 07-27-2012 12:55 AM

GARS has been dead for many years, and its not compatible with vb3.8.7 and current server software. I still run it, but with issues. It would make a lot of sense to switch to another solution.

It simply makes no sense to me to update to vb4 all my 110 addons, many of which are custom coded, invest a significant amount of time and money to do so, only to update to vb5 months later. But thats from my standpoint. I can fully appreciate that developers see no point in developing for vb3, or even vb4 with vb5 around the corner.

viper357 07-27-2012 04:20 AM

But not everyone is going to upgrade to vb4 or vb5 or vb6. A lot of us are going to remain on vb3. But anyway, it doesn't matter, I've decided to buy reviewpost for $89. They support vb3 :up::up:

lazytown 07-27-2012 08:31 AM

Reviewpost is very ugly.. I'd be quite happy with vb4 version that also works with vb5.. asking for a vb3 version is like asking for windows 98 software.

Agreed, but I know of a good few forums that I frequent that have in excess of a few million posts that are still running as low as 3.6, but anyway, it's a pointless argument, lets move on.

SilverBoy 08-04-2012 07:17 AM

No news about forummods or Badshah93?
Until now we have only vbcover product in the market, but I can't use coded products in my site.

No it's not. You obviously don't run large forums, or depend on them for your livelihood.

I'm looking for a 3.8 alternative...and have money to put down to get it done.

You're mistaken -- your forum is an order of magnitude smaller than ones I manage. I stand by my comment that reviewpost is ugly as heck and totally outdated looking.. I don't think it's been updated feature or style-wise in years.. If it was, I would have used it a long long time ago. It's a viable option for a vb 3.x board that has no other alternative. There are much better free options right now for 4.x here at vb.org, and some paid options too.

Why all the sudden interest by photopost/reviewpost 'users?' Your gun board has like 30 reviews total in the past 2 years, which is like 0.00001% of your number of posts... Doesn't seem like a very successful investment (and most of the reviews are totally empty without activity). You already have it installed on your 'huge' forum, so why are you arguing you have money to put down for a product? Let's be honest here folks and not try to use this thread for advertising/shilling...

So, how'd this go?

COBRAws 08-24-2012 09:40 AM

I am willing to put in some money.

SilverBoy 08-31-2012 03:23 AM

no news until now !!

all coders which made announcements about their reviews mod, suddenly disappear !!

are all of that mods considered dead?

FannBlade 08-31-2012 11:10 AM

Must be a hard mod to create.
Maybe it will be easier on VB5.

Alfa1 08-31-2012 11:27 AM

I have my eyes set on vb5. If vb5 will be good enough then I will need a reviews full blown content type created. Its currently not known if this can be created for vb5.0 or if we need to wait for the vb5 version that supports the CMS.

I am communicating with senior developers about this. If no one will deliver the needed functionality as commercially available software, then I will have this coded.

It is indeed a big expensive project, but with multiple investors its doable.
Anyone who wants to be part of this by investing in the project, should let me know.

SilverBoy 08-31-2012 04:51 PM

Alfa1, I'm vb customers since v1.1.3 days, and from my experience, even if the vb5 will be good enough we have to wait about a year to get it stable and full supported from the coders to update their products.

So we want product to use it in this year while we testing vb5 and get all our product updated.

Alfa1 09-02-2012 03:02 AM

Well, I can say with certainty that I will not use vb4 on my big board ever. I will either jump straight from vb3 to vb5 or if vb5 will be a let down then I will abandon vbulletin altogether.
As soon as vb5 is solid enough, development will start on rewriting all my addons and producing various functionality I need.

SilverBoy 09-02-2012 06:01 PM

right, but note that not all users can wait until vb5 released and then waiting months to be solid !!
I have a board with about 750k members running on vb3.8.x yet, but I bought the vb4 suite from the first days (when they gave a discount) but never running it yet because the main thing I want in it is the CMS.
But after long researches I decide to hire some one to do what I need, but unfortunately I don't find the right person, and get a bad experience when dealing with fraud coder (one of vb.com support team) and he get the money without give me any thing.
I thought after this to stop searching for coder, and there was no any news about vb5, but I get one and working with him in these days and I don't mind if they release vb5 tomorrow, because I need to launch my news part, and if vb5 was really good and all my favorite mods upgraded I will invest to upgrade my special mods, but sorry I'll not freeze my life waiting vb5.

So if any one of all reviews product that in development stage right now released and was do what I want I will buy it for sure.

Jolly good ... When is the stable release expected. ? :)

SilverBoy 09-15-2012 04:07 AM

give us the real date for release your product forummods.
sorry but all of you (forummods and Badshah93) give us premisses without getting any thing actually from both of you !!
vb5 knocking the doors, and it is not so promise for me, even when they ignored CMS to late release (maybe one month may be one year after the release of vb5).
so I'm interesting in both of your products, but I'm afraid from buying yours and suddenly you disappear again forummods.

lazytown 09-15-2012 06:15 AM

vb5 is a disaster right now. I'm looking forward to forumsmods new version, hopefully he is working on bug fixes as well.

John Lester 09-15-2012 06:17 AM

Wow this looks like it's going to rock :)

SilverBoy 09-15-2012 10:12 PM

forummods, I wish you can add ability to show realted items in the review page, I want it for Books reviews, and want to show similar books like this (by tag)

SilverBoy 10-01-2012 12:49 AM

What happened Forummods? your site closed since your announcement about the new beta !!
Also Badshah93 didn't show any serious results !!

SilverBoy 10-09-2012 05:06 AM

no updates !!

he did something similar with me, I gave him a project on elance, and when I ask him about the work he always say he will finish in time (he request a month for doing the project), when the time was close to finish he said he will not do project needs editing files !! (we all know the project that I want must have edits on files) and he will not do any projects until finishing his reviews product !! but he didn't give any updates here or anywhere about his reviews product, and as I see he did new projects on elance !! very strange !!

If you wasted your time just waiting for something, what I can say for wasting my time (more than a month) for coding it? If you like the fair play, then try to count how many times, from my first post till my last post, the feature list has been changed. How many features have added to that list. That's the reason that I adopt this project as I found it a time waster. What do you think? That I'm idiot to work in a project for more than a month and then kick it off? No, I'm not.

You can't say that someone "cheated" you as long as there are proofs that at the time being, he was really working on what he was saying. And this is something that I can prove by installing the addon with the features that I've finished.

Chris

Alfa1 12-01-2012 03:56 AM

If more feature requests are added, then this does not necessarily mean that you would need to implement those. I'm sure that many would find your addon interesting.

If vbulletin 4 would have a future, then I would have further pursued this project. I still need reviews. But not for vbulletin 4.

SilverBoy 12-01-2012 06:47 AM

Chris my message was not personal attack over you, but the second two developer just give us promises without actions !! specially forummods who sell his not worked beta mod and closed his site and hide !! sham on him !!

Alfa1, all of us dreaming with great reviews mod for vb5, but for me I'll don't work with vb5 until it will stable product, don't forget vb4 take 3 years to be good one, so the priority now is to find great review mod like JReviews for vb4 because the most of vb license holders work with it or with vb3 not vb5.

--------------- Added [DATE]1354348238[/DATE] at [TIME]1354348238[/TIME] ---------------

Badshah93 left one of my project in the end of it's time because he said he want to concentrate on his reviews system, I think he didn't code any line in my project and only wasting my time for nothing, and in other hand he didn't release his reviews mod until now (more than 3 months now).

Christos Teriakis 12-01-2012 07:57 AM

Talking just for my side, what I've to say is that after finishing my site, I'll bring my reviews addon in life as is now, but in membership plans where it will costs almost nothing. If I see that there is interest for it, I'll upgrade it with new features. That's the only that I can do at this moment. I've coded many mods that I never brought in life. One day it came to my mind to put all my mods in one place, when I realized that I've 29 full addons (without counting the widgets), plus another 8 that I gave to other coders. It's pitty to have them sitting on my HD.

Chris

SilverBoy 12-01-2012 11:54 AM

Chris, I always respect your work, but your problem is the Mediterranean mentality and nervous, that we all have (I'm from Libya), and your releasing great work and then remove it just because one of annoying people harming you and then starting insulted conversations, that all make bad indication about your personality, so try to stay calm, and support your work to show it is power and let everyone shut there moths.

Any body from the people who bought forummods buggy beta reviews mod catch him lately?

For me if I get good budget I will hire coder to make review system for me based on vBCMS articles, not like other addons wich works on forums, and because I don't use GARS so things maybe go smoothly, but if I don't get enough budget I will go to iReview by vbcover, which is not good choice for me because of encryption, but it is what we have on the market.
