Tom, you are talking about a totally different MOD. The one you are referring to is AJAX Tabbed Content that I wrote specifically for vBa CMPS.

This has nothing to do with that. This is a NON AJAX Solution for Tabbing out the Categories for Forum Home only. It was done this way on purpose. It was done as a request and was something I never wanted to release because it required manual install and setup, however, I received 100s of PMs and was tired of dealing with them so I just released this MANUAL version. It was never written with the intention of releasing it to members here. It was written the way it was so that it could be customized in one template (FORUMHOME) without writing a ton of template conditionals within multiple templates. It was also done NON Ajax for a reason.

Version 2 (which HAS been written with the intention for releasing to members) works similar (but not the same) as the MOD you are talking about. One difference will be that version 2 of this MOD will utilize YUI.

Once version 2 of this MOD is done, AJAX TABS for CMPS is being converted to YUI as well.

What will be nice for you is that the content files that you already have can also be used in this one (as well as 3 other mods that are currently under development)

YUI is allowing the development to include some nice features for all you users out there. ;)

I'm having some trouble with this mod. $forumbits by itself displays everything perfectly but when I make my own variable such as $forumbits2 with category id (1,1,0) it doesn't style and just outputs plain text with the spacing. (I'm not using the default vbulletin style. Where can I edit what $forumbits outputs?

Hey Hammerhead,

Sounds like you would benefit from holding off for version 2 which is much easier to work with, specially if you have custom styles that deviate from default vb layout/templating ... If you want to try, you will still need to edit the forum home template only.... you will see in the instructions remarks about were to edit layout code for your custom style.... ALL of that goes away with the next version however..

Brother Malachi 06-14-2008 07:25 PM

Thanks for the quick response :) When can we expect the new version?

P.S. I actually fixed the problem and it works great!

Brother Malachi 06-14-2008 07:52 PM

Another question:

I'm trying to combine this mod with another one that displays forums in categories in 2 columns. Here is the link: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...=99829&page=23

The problem is that, again, it only affects the main $forumbits variable and not $forumbits_tab1 which is the category in which I want to display the forums in two columns. How can change that?

Check to see if that MOD makes any changes to the forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost and forumhome_forumbit_level1_post Templates. If it does, you will have to re-create that manually in the container for that specific Category. Kinda a pain in the backside, but its doable.

Again, this will be automatic with the next version since the next version uses those templates.

Bugs + Back End features. There is still quite a bit of work.

Just found this Mod and it is exactly what I am looking for, I don't think I can hold out for v2 before installing, will v2 include the removal of this version and update to v2, so that vb updates in the future don't effect it?

Mesohu 06-16-2008 10:34 AM

Any chance for an automatic installation like other mods ?

Installation will be much easier. I did it the other day in like 5 minutes max.

BrettJC 06-16-2008 04:42 PM

Couldn't wait, installed this evening works great.

Just trying to make a specific tab load as default.

Getting close to needing a few Beta Testers for version 2 (which is AJAX) ..

I have it running live on a few sites right now... check out http://www.teryxhq.com/forums/ to see it in action..

Hi bobster65, i have your version installed without Ajax and is 5*****, but i have a question to that new one(Ajax).

Wen i click in one tab the Ajax refresh the all forums, but my question is wen i click in one tab all home is refreshed ?

Because if i click in a Tab and this call /forum/index.php (home) in background this is very complicated , because you now the Home is that in one forum consume more CPU.

Or just refresh that forum is recalled by the Tab , and dont load all home ?

OsideRida06 06-18-2008 05:07 PM

I would love to request a feature which I think everyone would love.

Can you make it so that the tabs are always in there position? For instance, say you click on the second tab inline. Then you click on one of the forums in that second tab. Once you do that the tabs disappear. So can we get it so they stay there? That way they can go to another tab from inside a forum?

This is the main thing people have complained about with the tabs on my forum. They always have to back all the way out and start over after they enter a forum. I see on this new one it atleast goes to the tab that you were on when you click back. But it would be great to just have the tabs there at the top, so you can click the one you want to go to.

What do you think?

mokonzi 06-18-2008 05:47 PM

I think it'd be a great addition, as it's a pain navigating.

It'd have to be a seperate template, and positioned around the navbar.

Maybe even modifying the navbar might do it.

2.0 includes a much easier way of creating and managing tabs.

OsideRida06 06-18-2008 11:14 PM

Yes but do they show on all pages, like I suggested? People love the tabs but they are a pain to navigate through, when you have to go all the way back and start over each time you enter a forum.

One thing people need to remember is that Tabs are not a navigation (from page to page) system.. they are a container system to display content imbedded within a single page (In this case Forum Home).

You COULD however Emulate the "LOOK" of the Tabs on subsequent pages by using a Tab Menu System (Similar to the one here on vborg), but still, you are going to have to be taken back to the index.php page for the Tab Container functionality to work. I have link back tabs on my forumdisplay.php and showthread.php pages that you click on that take you back to forum home and open the tab that you clicked on.... maybe that would work for you?

I know what you want.. you want the index.php (Forum Home), forumdisplay and showthread all combined into one so that it can all be AJAX Tabbed on a single page .. That would take some SERIOUS rewriting of the Core vbulletin system to combine all of those into a single system ..

carubmun 06-19-2008 10:11 AM

bobster, your tab system is awesome, we are using it over at http://dailysportspages.com/forums/index.php and we cant wait for the next installment.
When you need guinea pigs... err beta testers, just let us know.

It sounds like this would work just great for my needs. But how would we do it? With the new version that is? I am not even going to bother to do it with the one I am using now.

Is there a link where we can help beta test the new version? To help get this working?

As it stands, v2.0 has a far way to go before a beta test is even possible.

OsideRida06 06-20-2008 03:10 AM

I thought they were already starting the beta testing?

2 different versions... the one KK is refering to is the YUI AJAX version (which we will be releasing as 2.0) .. the AJAX Version of the dynamic drive Tabs .js will be version 1.5 and IS in beta release (just not public yet) .. 1.5 however will not ever be a product or have a backend (ACP) .. waste of time since we are moving forward with YUI.

vidan 06-20-2008 12:35 PM

What is YUI?

Also, I've got a question. I'm trying to combine the current version of your mod with this mod: arrange forums in columns on forumhome

You can see tabs in action on http://dailysportspages.com/forums/

I basically made custom forumbit variables for each category and built the entire page...and only tabbed the sports categories in the middle. Now, i'm trying to show the forums of the tabbed categories in two columns.

The columns mod (this one) works fine on default $forumsbit but doesn't work on custom ones (If i do $forumsbit_main = construct_forum_bit(1); ) I tried using the function that came with that mod (constuct_forum_columns(forumid, num_of_columns)) but it doesn't come out quite right.

Would you know how how to fix this by any chance? :D

To answer your question about YUI ....

Quote:

The Yahoo! User Interface Library (YUI)

The Yahoo! User Interface (YUI) Library is a set of utilities and controls, written in JavaScript, for building richly interactive web applications using techniques such as DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX. The YUI Library also includes several core CSS resources. All components in the YUI Library have been released as open source under a BSD license and are free for all uses.

http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/
I have a fix for ya, wait till tomorrow when I release ver 1.5 That should solve your problem (hopefully lol) .. I SHOULD be releasing it tomorrow baring any last minute changes.
