There is always security risks, with or without HTML code my dear friend. Unfortunatelly net is not full of angels and you know it. For anything there is always a risk.
As for your question, no I dont plan to stop using HTML. It products beatiful to view articles, with lots of additionals that you can't do with simple BB code.
If you want to limit your risk, just give permissions to trusted usergroups to post articles.

Maria, i posted a few weeks back about trying your vbarticles on my test site to see how it works with my portal. Let me quote that back for you again.

Quote:

I installed this mod on my test forum to see how it looks and functions along with vbMates. It installed wonderfully so is the vbMates but i found just one problem with vbArticles. It doesn't wrap itself inside my portal. I'm using MKportal as frontend for my forum. I'm trying to figure out why vbMates wrapped itself beautifully inside MKPortal though. This is what happened: whilst vbMates inherited the header that my portal and forum shares, vbArticles still uses the already reverted vb header and refuses to wrap inside the portal. It opens outside.

I hope to buy the commercial version but i still want to know if it can display correctly inside the portal just like vbmates.

I downloaded your latest version after uninstalling and deleting all signs of the old vbarticles from my forum but the result is still the same. Choosing a different headers not yours won't help either. It still won't wrap inside my mkportal. It still opens in a different window not inside the portal and using the already reverted vb header. I see it has similar templating system with vbmates but how come vbmates wrapped beautifully inside the portal but vbarticle won't. There must be something in the code that prevent it from displaying inside the portal and using it's headers. I'm using the free version for a test but hope to buy the commercial one so long as i can make it display inside MKPortal.

regards,
afterglow

Well let's try to make things simple. What exactly dosen't works well with MkPortal? I know that there is an issue with the popup windows which sometimes are not visible as there is the left side of mkPortal. I changed it for vbMates and now are visible.

But if you mean that you can't see correctly the main and the right side of vbArticles that's strange as I'm using relative width (%) for central blocks and actual for the right (something that is setting by you in admincp).

Can I've a link to your site?

Maria

afterglow 02-27-2007 07:43 AM

Sorry, i've had it installed in my localhost for a test so you can't see it.

Here's the situation, i've installed mkportal as a frontend for my vb just like you did with vbadvanced. You have the choice to display your forum outside the portal or inside the portal. I chose to display inside the portal which means my vb forum uses my portal headers and main nav bar. I disabled both the left and right columns when viewing the forum so i'll have more space with it but let the main portal nav bar stays. When i installed vbmates, it showed up perfectly inside the portal with its headers and navbar visible. But with vbarticle, it doesn't show up inside the portal. It uses the old vb logo and the portal nav bar isn't there, just the regular vb navigation. Now that's the problem. I want it to use the portal header and navigation just like vbmates but it won't.

Its essential for my news updates (articles) to go onto an RSS feed, would anyone be able to tell me if its possible how it would be done on 'vbArticles by Mary'?

Would be really appreciated if so.

Also, would it be possible to change the url of some of the categories so they link to forums?

Maria,

Im a bit confuses on what you mean sorry? Can you explain.. also any updates to why I get a white page as my request above several post?

Biek 02-28-2007 06:54 AM

I've tried finding a previous post regarding this but was unable to find one so forgive me if this was asked/mentioned before.

When I was changing the names of my categories I ran into an error. If I for example make a category called Howto's and submit or edit a article in there I receive a database error telling me there's a MySql error regarding an [i]'s[/s] command.

At first I didn't know what the heck happened as I'm pretty good at reading the instructions but my php knowledge unfortunately is not that great, but once I changed the name of that category to Howtos (without the 's at the end) the error disappeared.

Is there a way to work around this?

Apart from that small inconvenience I think it's a great system, many thanks for sharing it.

MaryTheG(r)eek 02-28-2007 06:54 AM

Hello my friends,

I just released version 1.5.5 of vbarticles with the following additions:
  • I used a different query to show Newest Author, so now someone will be always appear there.
  • I added article's thumb in category listing
  • I added a new switch to admin, so he can now setup if unregistered or not logon users can see the body article or not. This is a good way to drive visitors to become memebrs.
  • In full article view, the title in browser now shows the article's title for search engines.
Sorry, but I had in mind to add another feature in editor, to allow insertion of smilies, but finally it's author didn't gave me permission to add this feature in the free version.

To upgrade to latest version, just upload vbarticles.php and reimport product-vbarticles.xml

Cheers
Maria

Unfortunatelly you can't add apostrophe in a category name. At least in this version.

Free version dosen't supports the Editor's choice feature, that's why you're getting a blank page.

I just checked my code and I seen that I've it written correctly. Could you please try by adding a category name on the same way, instead of editing the category?

1.- This feature is only available in the commercial version
2.- I've post a file before for this problem, but sorry can't update it any time that I'm posting an upgrade. You can open it and search for postdate and make neccessary changes in the new file. Only the lines that start like xxx = ....postdate and not in the queries.

Once installed does is it show that red colour or is it the colour of your forum?

Thanks in advance.

vbArticles is using your active style. The only difference is that I've added a special header for Top10 articles which you can turn off in your admicp.

Mary, help! I have several problems.

1 Use Avatar instead of user's Photo?
This option doesn't seem to work? It shows "no picture" in stead of the users avatar.

2 When I do upload a picture, and I try do delete the thread I get a MYSQL-error:
Quote:

3 When showing an article it says:
Uncached templates: vbarticles_search (1)

4 When uploading a picture (like 50*50 pixels) it's totally screwed.. It's not transparant anymore, it's way to big, it's black, etc..

Please help.

Maria,

I have noticed that the search feature does not work. I am running 1.5.5 payed version and when I choose

Search in Articles

Category Type
ALL Video

It pulls up all the articles not just the ones with video? Why is this?

newbe_haselina 03-07-2007 02:28 PM

Just wanted to mention that I bought the payed version today for my new community ... and it really awesome :) ... Thx Maria ... it's a really good one.

but right at the moment, there is one question left ... I had to translate all the phrases into german but some "english words" are left. E.g. when you look at the admin options ... or e.g. the "submit" and "do it!" buttons ... can you please tell me where I can find the right place to add the translation?

all the best,
haselina

From your admincp->Products & Plugins->Manage
Find in the list vbArticles and choose Uninstall from the droplist actions on the right.

Internal server errors are coming from server configuration and not from vbArticles. Nobody has reported something like this for 2 months now. The only way to help you is to see the error log. Also please write me what PHP and MySQL versions are you running.Maria

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to change the text colour for articles?
http://www.chessforums.org/vbarticle...le&articleid=3

The text is white on the white background, I don't want to start switching the css as this will affect different areas of the forum also. Does anyone know which template contains the actual full article so I can change the div to something with black text?

Thanks!
Greg

How do we fix this.

It's a great hack, easy installed and perfectly worked. I think I'm gonna upgrade to the Commercial version soon but how come there's no Field for the Author. I mean, in my site, I use this add-on to add articles from newspaper, articles that weren't written by me so there should be a place for the real Author.
And if hack can have its own Authors, I mean members that are registered only for this hack, it'll be great.

Andy-K 03-20-2007 09:36 PM

Lovely mod, just have one little problem with it, or well two.

1. None of the buttons in the editor work. They are there, have mouseover effect and all, but nothing happens when I push them. Not that this is the major problem.

2. The major problem is that it doesn't save the article text. Everything gets saved to the database, except the article text. In the message field of the db "<html><head></head><body><html><head></head><body><body><body><html><head></head><body><br /></body></html></body></body></body></html></body></html>" is saved instead of whatever text it is that is written in the article editor.
