These are custom code that need to be re-written for this version, and that takes time

Just thought I would be a nuisance and bump this.

It's a race, will .org upgrade before 3.6 is released .....

Marco van Herwaarden 11-12-2005 12:53 PM

We will go straight for 4.0, we are already testing.

Not that it is a big deal or anything, but I gotta say, the length of time this is taking is perplexing from a Jelsoft marketing point of view.

1.5 months since Gold rolled out and how many months beforehand to work with the betas?

Perhaps the staff here should approach Jelsoft and ask for some assistance of some kind?

We have lives to live seperate from this site; We also have no need to upgrade just because the latest version rolls out of production...

We have many customisations to make and if we don't get them right in the hurry to conform to the latest market trend, we will get moaned at more for having errors and mistakes than if we take our time and ensure to the best of our ability that there aren't any...

It's not just as simple as "Upload new files, Use upgrade.php, Dance around for a while while it does it's business then return happy as larry and spread 3.5 Joy to eagerly awaiting people" ;)

It's more like "Download new files, create plugins, products and edit files to do what we need them to do, test them, test them again, try and break them, test them, upload them, use upgrade.php and wait for about 5 hours to get all posts and threads and users and this and that and the other updated, then upgrade current styles to work with 3.5, blah blah blah blah..."

It'll probably take somewhere between 12 and 24 hours for this site to be upgraded :)

And that's a low estimate ;)

Chris

Did I say anything about you not having a life?

At what point does that statement grow old? Is it still a good reason after 6 months? 1 year?

The fact that this new version was all about plugins and not having to hack core files and your assertion that this site has no need to upgrade just shows how far outta touch some of you are getting with the big picture.

I don't remember saying the upgrade here would be easy. I'm questioning now the seeming lack of preparedness for it and the "status quo" attitude. You guys need to be pushed now. Like it or not, you are a part of the marketing vehicle of a successful company. If you start to be a detriment rather than an asset to said company, well... let's just say that I would be a little more careful in stating "we also have no need to upgrade..."

:D

So do the rest of us. If the current staff/admins/whatever don't have the time then maybe they need more who do.
