Open thumbnails in auto-resized new window

I would like it so when I click a thumbnail the fullsize image is opened in a window that is the same size as the image. Or are there any other ways of auto-resizing uploaded images? It's just that I'm not quite happy with the thumbnail solution. :(

Nor am I happy about the lack of response to this and similar questions.

I cannot get attached thumbnails to open in a new browser at all with 3.6.7 even though I have the NEW option enabled in the attachment manager.
