Damn straight bro
Hmm, what's wrong with the memberlist?
Too many members on it? :D Some people might get claustrophobia, which I assume isn't in the best interest of the site :P

"Incest" is the name of one user. Looks like someone was registering to get their spam names on the page 1.

Oh crap someone registered to get their spam names on page 1... help, I'm scared, we need to do something really quickly until they take over o.OOO... why don't you go ahead and register about 20 more names with about 5 punctuation marks in front of each to makes sure they get pushed down to the second page? others will join later and push them even further ;)

Maybe it's just the fact that all those listed have never visited in the last 18+ months and have never posted, hence they are just cluttering the list ?

jeez, and vbulletin has several methods of preventing this sort of thing too!
You can require a minimum post thing, or why not just only display members who have proven their liscense status O.O if its all just a usergroup~ should be a piece of cake?
And yes, they are so obviously spam. At the very least prune off members who never posted, werent verified, and havent logged in since registering, a long time ago (time to be determined by admins). WHY let them sit there? There is no point harboring hope that they will return and actually be members. Unless it is just a way to inflate usercount or something >.> Its impossible to find normal users unless you know their name immediately. Sure vborg has tons of regular users, but a great alarming number of such fakes. My favorite idea is simply only displaying users who have proven liscense status.

A nice prune unlicenced after 6 months should help. After all, if it's longer then leased licence holders could get pruned if their licence lapses, but it's more then long enough to make up your mind and purchase.
Some users with 0 posts are still licenced and subscribe to the give and take philosophy, but only take and never even give thanks. Then there the 0 posts coz they only log in to post a service request and perhaps post in the lounge every so often.

It is spam. Debated heavily on vb.com a while ago.
Basically they register and fill in the homepage link. If the profile pages are public or if the homepage link appears on the memberlist, then they go up the Google PageRank.
Best defense:
1) Take homepage off of your memberlist.
2) Make member profile pages members only (no guest view).
Just take a look at some of the URL's set as their home pages ;)

well HPs are off since a long time, and users with a ! at the front cannot register anymore... :D

yes thats wonderful :-p but i think we are all for REMOVING the millions who have already made their way (and they are completely IN the way) onto the memberlist. at the very least removing them from displaying there, if you dont want to deflate that "number of registered users" :-p

In vBulletin 3.5 there is an option to only display members with x amount of posts or more - Perhaps setting that to 5 posts or so will eliminate those who are very inactive ;)

Just setting it to one would do in most cases. :)

Wasn't that already an option in 3.0?

afaik it's just an option to jsut show certain usergroups, but not based on posts??
@track: i don't have the time to visit every user's homepage
the homepage doesn't appear on the memberlist, so that should not be a problem

Xenon, understood, jsut delete the ones with 'incest' in their membernames. Those are the only ones I was trying to bring to your attention. Soory for the hoopla, I should have just pm'd you.
Apologies,

@Darwaltz: depends what you mean with verified.
it displays all users except those which have not yet activated their acounts (email verification) or which have less than 5 posts.
but there are still unlicensed users on the list as well

eh, well i meant unverified as in vbulletin license account status. naturally, youd only want to display to all of us licensed members, all the other licensed members :-p i would assume you guys stick us into a license-verified usergroup, so youd just restrict access that way (and switching usergroups is based on that funny email-form thats so ever-quoted in each 'you appear as unlicensed' speel, and possibly a cron for those whose 1-year license dies) :-p then you could disregard the whole min post thing, close off viewing the memberlist to guests, and all of the licensed members would be free to peruse each other's homepages :)
If you dont do this then....o.o just making things harder for yourselves than it should be i think ^_^

I imagine one reason for not doing this would be because anyone can then tell who is and who is not licenced by searching the members list ;)

exactly, and we have tofollow Jelsoft's policy in that case, which says no normaly user should have the ability to decide wether a user is licensed or not
