View Full Version : Random Smilies - PLUGIN
First of all Thanks to GuaRRand for the code as posted in this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?threadid=99426
Thanks to BluPheonix for the original hack for vB 3.0.x.
This will display random smilies in the smilie box when creating new threads and posts.
I would post screenahots, but they keep changing on me...lol  .
Just extract the XML from the zip file and import the plugin.

... good idea...
btw, please don't display your thanks in the thread title, but in the post itself... credits are good in threads, even better because we all see them.. titles are not that populars.. lol

Nice, but I prefer the file edit - One less query ran on loading the editor ;)

If you give all your smileys a display order of '1' they appear randomly anyway
If you give all your smileys a display order of '1' they appear randomly anyway
I don't think that's true.... :surprised:

Doesn't work for me either.
Doesn't work for me either.
I don't think it works by just doing a refresh on the reply or new post page.
What I found out is that (I could be wrong) it caches the smilies for that post / reply.
If you go to a different thread and hit reply or post then you'll see a different set of smilies.
I didn't think it worked at first...but after an hour of testing i realized that it DID work...just that the cache had to be circumvented.

looks like it's switching the displayed smilies around, but any that weren't already displayed on that page do not show up ever.

This is a cool hack but it would piss my members off... They didnt even like everything numbered as a 1 display order.
Props on the hack though.

how exactly do you do that?
do you have them all in one category? what do you do number the ones you want fixed/permanent?
1,2,3-----10, then 1,1,1,1,1?
Its not working for me. :(
anyway....about the plugin... is it possible to make have an option to set a number of "permanent" smiles and be able to select which ones you want always to appear ? (the rest would be random). :) that'd be nice. Two birds...one stone. ;)

Same problem here also :) The smilies are not randomizing. Or is the randomizing only for the smiley box as opposed to the smiley drop-down menu?

The randomising is meant to be for the smilie box only...

I tried importing it as a product, because the directions said : Just extract the XML from the zip file and import the plugin.
However it told me it wasn't a product, it was a plugin.
So when I go to the add plug-in page, there is no place to 'import' - instead it gives me boxes to fill in and a place to put php code - can we please have more specific instructions on how to add this?

yes, go to your admincp and scroll down till you find the plug in bar. Then open it up and select "Download / Upload Plugins", now you will see a new set of option's pop up....where it says "Import Plugin Definitions XML File" select browse, locate the xml file and then click import.........dat's it.
The hack doesn't seem to be working though......I deleted the hack for now.

It's not working for me either.
My smilies also did not rotate when all the display numbers were set to 1. I am thinking that if you get over a certain number of smilies, they won't rotate..

i have around 700 smilies and they are rotating.........hmmmmm

I'll give it a try on v4 and give you a result
Edit: didn't work for v4 even with db query changes
