Has anyone seen a mod like this? Would it take up too many resources if implemented correctly?

I was actually looking for the same thing. But for now I just use the webpage & guestbook script, as the guestbook works/functions just like the shoutbox. However, I don't know if it has been ported over to vb3.5.

Well, one thing I have found is Amy's User Pages which has a shoutbox. But, I'd love to have something that combines the User Page hack, vBJournal, the shoutbox, and a public buddy list, so that you basically have a myspace/livejournal/etc. feature for every user.
