From the makers of lint and fuzz come the oh-so-popular-cant-live-with-out Mack that transformed the lives of all whom beheld it.
Yes, this is: Geek Gallery Popup for vBa and PhotoPost*
Gpop will allow your users to easily insert pictures from their gallery into their posts and private messages.
New features include:
Browse by category
Insert aligned images
Installation difficulty: About as hard as a sneeze
File edits: 0
Plugins: 0
template edits: 1
Known issues:
If the editor isnt selected, and you click a pic... it inserts the freaking pic in the page instead of the editor. Odd stuff. Im sure ill figure that out shortly.
*PhotoPost support is built in however please note that I dont have PP any longer and so I cant really test for it. Therefore, if you are a PP user, let me know if it works ;)
Please click install if you install it.

Please note there is 1 or two minor pagination issues that I am currently sorting out. Nothing too major though.

First: thanks so much for putting this up!
I'm having some problems. I believe this script assumes the gallery is located within the forum folder, but that isn't always the case... For example, in my
vba gallery is at: http://site.com/pictures
forum is at http://site.com/forum
I'm getting errors on line 202 and 203.
Thanks

I had to use "../pictures" as the gallery folder setting.
Now the window pops up without errors and shows the pictures, but when I click them they do not insert into the post (in WYSIWYG editor). In the simple editor, when I click a picture it inserts "https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/" without any content.

OK I had to revert a couple of geek templates (since the old ones were still there). It seems to work for the standard editor, but when I click an image in the popup for the WYSIWYG editor, nothing happens.
EDIT: HAD to update more templates... Now it all seems to work!
THANKS!

I have the pop up working but in the WYSIWYG editor using IE, the photos pop in to the top of the template (page) and not in the post area.

Apparently, there are some script errors in the .php files if you are using Photopost. I got it corrected and working beautifully at my site.

../gallery for the "Gallery folder" setting because my gallery is outside the forum dir
/files for the "Data Folder" setting.
The strange thing is the page keeps loading and eventually times out?
Any help?

Most likely the reason for it. Just right click on the next page link and view properties to see where its trying to go to.

Looking at the source it appears that the multiple page calls are going to http://www.xyz.com/forum/geek-gallery-popup.php&page=2&catid=0&ed=vB_Editor_001
Since the first operator is an & instead of a ?, some servers (like my own) are having a hissy fit and producing a 404 page.
Thanks for hacking this and for keeping PP support despite not using that product anymore.

We used to have this on our previous board and I'm so happy it's available for vbulletin too :)
Great work !!!
I've just installed, but I do have a path problem.
I'm using photopost and my photopost directory is located in my root folder.
Apparently, there are some script errors in the .php files if you are using Photopost. I got it corrected and working beautifully at my site.
Attached is the file I corrected.
I used martinchan's modiefied file (thanks martinchan!) to make it work, but it still isn't working 100%. The pop-up works great, only the inserted URL for the photo's is incorrect.
It shows for example:
http://www.domain.com/board/../photopost/data/502/2textielfabriek2.jpg
So I need to get rid of the "/board" :)
How can I change this?
Bellinis
10-29-2005, 07:42 PM
Also I noticed I can't used the page selector: no matter which pagenumber I press, it keeps showing me the same pictures :( (or does this have something to do with my problem described above?).
I'd love to get this working :)

Definitely not what I've come to expect from The Geek.
Things I've noticed right off:
1. No variable specified to check for version 5. After
$pp_ver = $vbulletin->options['geekgallery_pp_ver'];
You need to add
$pp_five = $vbulletin->options['geekgallery_pp_is_five'];
2. Change $photo_prefix to $pp_prefix
3. Need to define $imageid
$imageid = $vbulletin->options['geekgallery_pp_is_five'];geekgallery_perpage
Even then, the selected image posts into the page, not the editor and the page number links go nowhere.
Normally, "The Geek" means not only quality, but really cool innovations. The idea for this one delivers on the latter, but the former isn't up to usual standards.

Ive updated the package to address a couple of issue raised here. Initial testing looks fine however AS I MENTIONED BEFORE: I dont freaking have PP anymore so I cant really test it and therefore am not fully supporting PP installations. Everyones constructive input for the PP side of things is very helpful so thank you (I may take you up on your offer Bellinis)
This update addresses the missing ? in the url and should address installations outside of the forum directory.
Please note that there is a new setting (Server path and FULL URL).
To upgrade, upload the latest contents of upload/forums content and re-import the product-gpop.xml file overwiritng the previous version).
Thanks.

Installed. Great job as usual Geek.
Does this work with firefox? If i put my full url to the gallery it will not load in firefox. If I just leave /gallery it loads the thumbnails but doesn't insert the correct link. Both ways work in IE.

Hey Geek.. thanks for releasing the great hack.. we're gonna love this one.
One minor problem, I noticed was reported here on page 4 of this thread >> the MySql error where it goes to some databasename_photos table that doesn't exist.... when it should go looking for the databasename_photopostprefix_photos table. (Hope that makes sense.)
In your reply on page 4, you said you fixed that in the download files and we should be getting version 4.01. Well I just downloaded and installed your hack tonight and my zip file came with this one:
Geek Gallery Popup 4.00 Readme File
What do I need to to change ... and where?
Thanks again for the hack!

Last night I did my second install if the Geek Gal Popup, but I'm still having the same issues:
Installation went smoothly, thumbnails do show, but I still can't browse to another page. I did uninstall the product, deleted the old geekfile.phph and uploaded the lastest release (3 nov.)
The link for page 2 now looks like:
http://www.mydomain.com/board/geek-gallery-popup.php?catid=1&ed=vB_Editor_001&page=2
I'm using photopost 5.2
Installation is in /photopost
Board is in /board
From the discussions above I understand it should work. Why isn't it here?
Geek, please help me out here :(
Thanks ;-)

Would it be possible to have an option to display ALL a user's pictures instead of having them go to a category? Perhaps the top dropdown item could be "all."

The Geek,
The next/previous page links are working now but the photos don't seem to be changing based on what page i view (I see the same set of photos on every page). This is a photopost 5.x install using your latest version.
If you need pp access to play with this I can let you in to my dev site? Just let me know.
P.S. I found a way around the issue by adding:
if ($page > 1){
$start = ($page-1) * 8;
}
else
{
$start = 0;
}
after elseif($photo_system=="pp")

Geek, you are the undisputed king of making me laugh when installing and testing your hacks. Your hacks are pretty decent too!
I've upgraded from a previous version and the one issue I had with installing the upgrade is once it was all done the popup screen was still the old one. As it turns out I had modified the geek-photo-popup template, and simply had to revert it for all your new funky changes to come through.

Using the second zip I've got it working on photopost.
These two settings I had to tinker with
Gallery URL
I set mine as "photopost" with NO SLASHES
And
Data Folder
I set mine as "/data"
And it's working great! :)

Do this...
FIND
$pages = $db->query_first("SELECT count(id) total FROM $gallery_db" . $photo_prefix . "photos WHERE userid=$userid ");
AND REPLACE WITH:
$pages = $db->query_first("SELECT count(id) total FROM $gallery_db" . $pp_prefix . "photos WHERE userid=$userid ");
I'm still looking to see what the problem is with the page links.
EDIT...
Okay, found it.
FIND:
$query="SELECT
images.id AS imageid,images.cat,c.catname AS cattitle,'' AS extention,images.title,
images.bigimage AS filename,images.medsize,images.width owidth, images.height oheight,images.medwidth width,images.medheight height
FROM $gallery_db" . $pp_prefix . "photos AS images
INNER JOIN $gallery_db" . $pp_prefix . "categories AS c on images.cat=c.id
WHERE images.userid=$userid and images.approved=1 ORDER BY images.date DESC LIMIT $start ," . ($perpage);
ADD BEFORE IT:
$start = ($page-1) * $perpage;
That should fix the URL problem.

Hi All,
Everything works good untill I start a new thread and try to insert images they all appear on top of site instead of message box.
When just reply to a thread everything works fine!!
Anybody know what could cause this problem?
Geek you already got access to my site so maybe you could also take a look at that one while your at it ;-)
FASherman
11-08-2005, 09:29 PM
I can explain the problem. When you start a new thread or even a blank reply, you need to activate the cursor in the editor to give the editor focus, then click on the link for your pictures.
If you just hit the new thread or reply button and then the pic link after the page loads, the editor never has focus so the insert is being done in the document root, which is the page itself.
Note to TheGeek...
I'm sure the answer is in the smilie code. If you take and make a reply, click in the title box and then click on a smilie, focus is returned to the editor and the smilie is inserted in the first character position. That should for your hack too.
j.kramer
11-08-2005, 09:36 PM
FASherman that's what happens indeed, so that's why I thought a reply on thread worked because I already focused cursor.

? Allow to view all images from all catergories at the same time, view all option
Also would it be possible to layout the phrases that this version use? I had the older version installed and phrases got mixed together. I'm trying to clean it up..

Yes, I have the latest update and nope...path is ok. I have fixed it already. I had to make some edits to the stupid pagenav function:
Changed:
$navigation = construct_page_nav($page, $perpage, $pages['total'], 'geek-gallery-popup.php', '&catid=' . $catid . '&ed=' . $ed);
To:

ProjectCamaro, try this.......If you can see your image's in the gallery normally.
Server Path: /your/path/here/forums/gallery
Gallery URL: http://www.yoursite.com/forums/gallery
Data Folder: /files
click save.......
Now go to the geek-gallery-popup.php either in your file manager, or you can edit the file, reupload it and just copy over the existing file....
Anyways, open geek-gallery-popup.php and scroll down to $folderstring = $gallery_files_path;
if ($photo_system == "vba")
{
$folders = preg_split( '//',$userid,-1, PREG_SPLIT_NO_EMPTY);
foreach ($folders AS $uid)
{
//$folderstring .= '/' . $uid;
}
And where you see $folderstring .= '/' . $uid; Put // in front of $folderstring .= '/' . $uid; just like i have in the quote.........see what happens.

Hello,
Hotwheels' modification corrected an issue I was having. My images are all being stored in the "/files" directory and not "/files/1/". This includes my members. I was getting a bunch of the horrid "red x's" where the images should have been. I am running the ORIGINAL vBadvanced Gallery by Brian if that makes a difference. Mine was not upgraded through PP.
By adding the comment that Hotwheels suggested, MY images appear now. I am currently waiting to make sure member submissions do as well.

First one is this is at the top of the popup

after, put:

This solved the function error in my above post.

If the editor does not have focus, the images get thrown in the top of the page. Its a clearly defined Known issue in the first post (always has been).
I am not too sure as to what could cause the blank pages, or bad image paths. The key problem is that this was designed for a version of vbagallery that is no longer available or supported. PP support was put in, but only blindly as I don't own it, and I don't know what else has changed with ppgallery now.
In a nutshell, its a sticky mess and I'm not sure how to proceed. Maybe its best to scrap the hack all together which seems a shame as most people seem to be cracking on pretty well with it.

Impressive hack. Installed nicely, all my images and templates appear to be working correctly, pages change, etc, etc. Using lastest versions of Photopost and VB. When I click on an image, it inserts into the editor,and the image is clearly visible in the editor, but when I submit the post, it puts an http clickable URL to the thumbnail, instead of the thumbnail image itself. I would think that I installed this correctly, as, the images all seem to work correctly, prior to submitting the post.
It's the right URL. I just don't see the actual thumbnail (or actual image, depending upon choice made), in the post. Smilie images get put in without problems.
Here's a link to a test post: http://www.russbo.org/vb/showpost.php?p=24337&postcount=15

Can someone please help me? I have been unable to get this to work.
3.5.1
VBA Gallery (now Photopost) - most recent version
NT/IIS server
A screen shot of my paths is included. I have tried a LOT of different options and none of them seem to work.
Right now, when I click on My Files it opens a blank popup.
Thanks!
trana, those aren't correct..........
should look like:
Server path to gallery /home3/******/public_html/forums/gallery
Full URL to gallery root http://www.**********.com/forums/gallery
Data folder that holds photos with leading slash ie /files or /data) /files

Well, progress!
When I click on a photo to include it in the message, the photos are added to the message window at the top of the page (above my header image, navbar, etc).
Edit: Has anyone ever been able to fix this?

Trana, do me a favor and try this:
Edit geek-gallery-popup.php and find:
$cwd = getcwd();
after, put:
$globaltemplates=array(); and see what happens........

That worked.
Now if someone could figure out how to make sure the images end up in the editor and not the top of the browser...

I'm not sure what this hack has to do with vbSEO?
You have to modify the hack of add custom rules to vB SEO to let the images be displayed.
I installed vB SEO and now the popup hack is only showing cross images (image not found).
I think this happens cause vB SEO tries to rewrite the IMG SRC values and now does not find the images anymore.
Maybe Geek knows about this problem and can help.
Example:
I open the popup and click on one of the cross images.
In the thread this is pasted:
http://www.domain.com/gallery/files/3/3-bbboys.de.vu_thumb.jpg (http://www.domain.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=228)
This is wrong cause currently for the gallery I do not make a rewrite.
The geek popup script should take the old values and not rewritten links.

Hey there. This script has nothing to do with vbseo. If it worked before vbseo and now it doesnt, I would suspect the problem lies there.
However in fairness I use this script on www.thenailgeek.com and use vbseo and neither needed any additional tweaking or configuring.

Great stuff!! Thanks.
Two questions. When you are first using it, it's hard to tell that the photo actually got inserted. I can see my new users filling up their posts with photos, then hitting my vb photo limit of 5.
Some kind of more obvious feedback message that the photo was inserted would be great, along with the option to close the window as previously suggested.
Also, just a question--I need a way to put a limit on the width of the original image option. I allow fairly big images in the gallery, but don't want them displayed that big in posts. How can I limit the max width without forcing smaller photos to a potentially higher max width?
Again, thanks for a great hack!

i thumbed through this thread and had a couple of probs i couldn't find help on. to confirm, this does work on vb 3.5.4 and vbgallery 1.0.2.
- for thumbs, i needed to change /gallery0/ to /gallery/files/. I added /files to
$folders = preg_split('//', $userid, -1, PREG_SPLIT_NO_EMPTY);
foreach ($folders AS $uid)
{
$folderstring .= '/' . $uid;
yet, I can't manage to get rid of that 0 right after /gallery
- on insert, the image properties should be /gallery/files not just /gallery

Just wanted to say this mod is great, i love it! I wanted to add a bit of functionality to it, so I posted this on PhotoPost's web site and wanted to see if anyone here has any idea:
__________________________________________________ ___
Hi, I've got Photopost Pro and it's great.
I've got a vB mod that allows you to insert an image from your gallery into the WYSIWYG editor (Geek Gallery Popup 4.0) and it works nice, but I'd like to add 1 more piece of functionality to it, uploading pictures to your gallery right in the "insert an image" popup.
I've added 2 text boxes to that popup, one that would take a URL and one that is for a File (with browse button) as well as a button to upload the requested file to the person's gallery.
The question is, how do I actually upload it? Is there a PP function I can call that, given file and user information, would upload into their own gallery? I'd like it to just upload without opening another page, no description nor category selection, just to the user's gallery. If not a function, would the only other way to insert via sql, any other ideas on how to do this?
Thanks a ton!

I've gotten this to work somewhat with vBGallery v2.3 and vB3.6.8 by downloading jluerken provided geek-gallery-popup.php. Since I use vBGallery the above mod didn't work so I just followed your idea for the "vba" queries, which it's similar to what you did by default.
I replaced:
WHERE images.userid=$userid and extension in ($media_ext) $catwhere ORDER BY dateline DESC LIMIT $start ," . $perpage ;
With:
WHERE images.userid=$userid and images.catid=$catid and extension in ($media_ext) $catwhere ORDER BY dateline DESC LIMIT $start ," . $perpage ;
In which the and images.catid=VALUE did no really matter what I put there.
In my gallery I only have one main category and the rest is all sub-cats which works fine with what I added to the code since I hard coded in the popup options?data dir to /files/1 cause I can't get the code to count the different dirs within it. So if you have multiple Main Cats this would problem still show up with images as they weren't there since it's looking in the wrong dir.
Does anyone have a fix for this? Everything else works fine ;)
I hope the above makes since! :P

I am not sure if this will help, I have a new forum set-up and only a few pictures. BUT, I used the Geek Gallery pop-up before and compared files.
Around line 177 the following was commented it out:
$folderstring .= '/' . $uid;
I just removed the comment and my categories worked fine.
I hope this helps.
PS: VB 3.68 & vBa 2.3

It works with Gallery 2.3 with the above fix however the user categories are not included in the popup window which is a huge missing option.

Got it working with 2.3 on my install earlier tonight as well but am getting a merge_array error from gallery_global.php -- Is anybody else running it with Gallery 2.3 with vB 3.6.8 on PHP 5.x?
LK, do you mean user categories that the users create themselves or ... ? I looked at the code earlier tonight (my community members explicitly asked for the functionality of this hack :eek: ) and I don't see anything in there that likely can't be overcome.

No, we're still on vBGallery 2.2. 2.3 broke some other functionality for us.

I dont have a problem with 2.3 , 3.6.8 and php 5.x .HHhhmm... for some reason I'm getting an array_merge from gallery_global.php with it attempts to merge the global templates array. I'll play tonight or tomorrow.

I was about to say that I tried it last night and didn't see any problems with user created categories but it sounds like you're working on a different solution.

HHhhmm... for some reason I'm getting an array_merge from gallery_global.php with it attempts to merge the global templates array. I'll play tonight or tomorrow.Problem fixed. Frankly, I don't see how somebody could not get an error considering that $globaltemplates is unset in global.php and is then attempted to be merged in gallery_global.php in the 'vba' section.
Um.... OK. I was about to say that I tried it last night and didn't see any problems with user created categories but it sounds like you're working on a different solution.User categories still working but I noticed that as an Admin' I still see only my own uploads. I'm torn between adding code so that the user can either see all images that they have permissions to or just their own pics as it is now or making it usergroup based. HHhhmm...

This works fine with gallery 2.3. However, with xcache datastore turned on you have to modify includes/config.php to
if ((PP_SCRIPT != 'vBGallery') && (THIS_SCRIPT != 'Geek-Gallery')){
$config['Datastore']['class'] = 'vB_Datastore_XCache';
}

It works on vb 3.68 and photopost 6.01, but the field that is supposed to show categries to choose is empty. It do shows by default member galleries but you cant choose another one. The mod is for pp5.x so I think the problem could be near there.
I think this is a very important mod that everybody looking for VB3 forum integration would be very happy to have. Please consider updating this mod!!
Thanks!!

Crap, tried to install this but the XML wont install any of the plugins. The templates and phrases are all installed without errors. But when I go to look at the plugins none of them are there.
I am using 3.7 so who knows what may have changed.

Many many moons ago Geek and Michael P (of photopost) chatted about makeing the hack part of the galleries, but thats when Geek had some problems @ home. So all was lost on moven forward.

Is there a way to make it so that it defaults to "original image size" ? And is there a way to change it so that you can have the box show more than 8 pictures at once?

YES!@!! got it working !!!
- vb 3.7.1 PL1
- vbgallery v2.4.3
For reference:
I had to reupload files (I was showing NO DIRECTORIES),
and do the "remove comment" fix (I got a weird small black thumbnail if not).
ie: I used this file:
this works
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1333498&postcount=208
and this fix:
Around line 177 the following was commented it out:

Guys, this hasnt been updated in like 3 years. IIRC, there is a vba gellery version that appeared after I granted permission to use the base code about a year ago, but can't remember where it is.
It isn't a complex mod. Heck, it was one of my first. I am sure someone could grab the bull by the horns and update this thing along with making it 10 times better. Maybe when AME 2.5 is gold and I can make some time Ill look into it. THen again... Maybe not :D

it doesnt work for pp 6.11 and 3.7.3
it puts the paths wrong for example
http://www.site.com/data/543/1PICTURE_066a.jpg
it adds 1 b4 the filename
and the thumb also wrong
http://www.site.com/data/543/1PICTURE_066a-thumb.jpg
while it should be
http://www.site.com/data/543//thumbs/PICTURE_066a.jpg
any fix

no the paths are correct as u can see i have pp in the root and it goes to the right data folder. simple the filenames dont have 1 in front and the thumbs are in thumbs folder.
i also have php5 and vbseo

The new, much improved version of the Photo Popup Mod can be found here:

Tagged as a 3.8 version, but should work on 3.7.x without issues.
