I'm looking for a way to add a poll with click boxes, ect on the side of the forum home.

poll software intergrated into vB would be awesome.

I am trying stand alone poll software, but it's a pain in the butt to add it to my vBulletin pages.

Take a look at the Latest Polls module of vBAdvanced to see how it is done.
Strip down what you do not need, then make it a plugin for hook forumhome_complete and stick the output somewhere in template FORUMHOME.
Done.
