View Full Version : Extended Reputation Display
Paul M
10-06-2005, 10:00 PM
This modification is no longer available or supported.
This hack extends the existing reputation display system from just the light/dark green pips to green and golden pips, and then golden stars as the pips limit is reached.
The dark green pips are followed by light green pips, which are then followed by 'golden' pips. When the limit these can display is reached, the display is prefixed by a golden Star, and started again. If your reputation is zero then the neutral grey pip is displayed. Negative reputations are displayed in a similar manner using light and dark red pips and stars.
Each time you 'lap' the limit of the pips display, another star is added. The number of stars in unlimited. The number and value of the pips in each group of pips is defined by six settings in the vboptions > reputation options. The supplied default values will display 5 dark green, 5 light green and 10 golden pips before a star is displayed. The golden pips kick in at 2,000 points and it takes 10,000 points to get a star (so 20,000 for two etc ...). A line break can be inserted after the stars.
The extended display system can be enabled/disabled in the options.
Just follow the install instructions in the zip file to install this product.

what is the tag to display rep images?
I have customized my postbit, and accidently removed what ever tag displays the images...
can you tell me what I add to display the images...
I want the images to be separate, from the giving of rep

I use the default style, I have uploaded to images/reputauion and the one green dot that shows has that location as the image location.
Am I missing something cause it still isnt working. How to check where the default theme is pulling from?

My settings are right. I have installed and uninstalled 3 times. I did get it to work by creating a user and setting the rep to 9999 and it worked. I am thinking something didnt transfer over on my import or I have the values set to high that it doesnt show for a single user other than the fictional one I created.
Having said that, I apologize, I thought it was your hack, turns out it is on my end.
Thanks for taking the time to try and help me out though
Mike
Is there a way to make the high value dots or stars appear UNDER the others instead of OVER? I actually made a different colorad dot rather than the gold stars and I would like to have them show on the bottom rather than the top. I would also like the members to keep their 10 gold dots and then move on to the new dots under. It seems the way its set right now that if you hit the 10 golds, they defalut back to 5 golds and a gold star.

I used a similar version that you wrote before Paul, where I only use 6 Stars, and also a Negative Image, Which doesn't actually add more images, Its just 1 Image (a poo)
Anyway, I am looking to put this into this hack, but I am not sure if I would be able to. Again I just want it so that it stops at 6 Stars, and people get stars in this way
1 Star = 0-500
2 Star = 501-1000
3 Star = 1001 - 2500
4 Star = 2501 - 5000
5 Star = 5001 - 10000
6 Star = 10001 +
Any help would be great

You should be able to do that by editing the appropiate settings, which are now in the ACP, and uploading your custom images with the correct names.

I have looked at your site and there is nothing wrong.
The only 'problem' I see is that all your users (except two) have a reputation of 30 or less, of those remaining two, one has a rep of 60, and the other (Telefoncu) of 1010. Therefore you are not going to see much displayed (one green pip in fact). I have edited the administrators rep to 3000 so you can see. :)

Not without a bit of re-writing of the code. Why do you want to - it will make the display static once you got a star, until you had enough to get another star (i.e doubled your reputation).

so when you get a star the process starts over, at this time do your pips start over and you go back to 1 green?

Just installed, so simple! Love it, thanks! I'll be changing the images, though, since they're made for a white background and I have both light and dark. Doesn't anyone use transparency anymore?
Okay, I just made new images. They don't have rounded corners (so any background will work fine, although the border is still black), and instead of gold I did a brighter green. So it's just a series of green, and I like them.
I have attached them to this post if anyone wants them. They are named the same, so you can simply overwrite your old ones. I did not include new "stars" because I'm going to use yo-yos, as it's a yo-yo forum. :)
Obviously the names don't make sense anymore, since "gold" is actually green. Paul M, maybe in future versions you'll name them something generic, like "pip-1," pip-2," etc. and "large-pip," or something like that. If you'd like to include these pips that I made in your zip as an alternative, feel free.
Thanks again!
Paul M
01-02-2006, 06:05 PM
The stars have a transparant background - I didn't realise the pips did not, I'll look into that when I have a spare moment. As for the names - the point of this was to add the golden pips, so I'm not going to change the names. :)

Well I thought the point of it was to give way more options as well as adding larger pips (stars)--that's why I installed it. No one is really using the reputation system on my forum because everyone still has one pip under the default system. With this mod I can set it way lower so people can see what's happening, and then scale the settings later.

Is there a way to change the rep value of each pip, and star? Some of my users have a LOT of rep, so there's 10+ stars on a few of them.

Yes, alter the hacks settings in the ACP.
The number and value of the pips in each group of pips is defined by six settings in the vboptions > reputation options.

Thanks, but I have another problem.
In the user CP, the rep display still uses the reputation_pos, _balance, and _neg.gif, so it ends up not displaying them properly.
How do I fix it so it uses the newly-named rep images? I havent been able to figure it out.
Paul M
01-24-2006, 09:06 PM
This is not designed to affect the images in the usercp, you should not remove the old images as that display still uses them, just upload the new ones.

Hi there. Great extention. I used the one you did for 3.0.x for ages.
Quick question for you if I can.
In the xml file, if I change this:
$repa = 'green';
$repb = 'greenh';
$repc = 'gold';
$repx = 'goldstar';
To this:
$repa = 'green';
$repb = 'greenh';
$repc = 'gold';
$repx = 'goldorb';
The make sure I have file called reputation_goldorb.gif uploaded. Will that work? Same for the reds, if I change it to redorb (orb being an example) will they work or is there more that needs to be done?
I'm not very familiar with the new plugins etc that 3.5 has.
Thank you

Your problem is nothing to do with this hack - you have hit a vbulletin limitation.
Your reputation is 2,147,483,647 - this is the maximum value that the database field that stores the reputation value can hold - if you add any more to it, the field overflows and flips to being a very large negative number.
I notice you have 3.5.0 installed - in later versions (3.5.4 ?) a check was added that stops the overflow - instead the value stays at 2,147,483,647.

Your not rethinking this are you Paul? I'd be happy to pay for an add on to this hack.
My Stars are getting huge lol. I'd like to be able to add a higher level with another image. ;). Like I got 20 stars. If I went and increased the Stars value all my members would be like ":( I lost my stars" lol.
Also, the stars stop at 20. No more get added after that. Is that by design?
Paul M
06-16-2006, 04:13 PM
There is no built-in limit to the number of stars.
More levels could be added, but obviously it would require more code and images. I have no plans for this as the most stars any of our members have is two.

How strange, that's being caused by a rogue entry in the product xml file. I'm amazed it's never shown up before.
