I don't really think this threads fits in this forum, but it doesn't seem to fit in any of the others either. So if a mod wants to move it please feel free.
I need a chat system for my forum and have tried Flash Chat which works well, but many users have complained that their work won't allow them to use the flash plug-in so they can't join the chat. It was then suggested to me that I should use IRC.
Zachery has a very cool mod, vBXirc, which allows the forum to meld with IRC, my only problem is how to set-up an irc channel.
I have my own server, but the TOS won't allow me to establish an IRC system on it so I was pointed in the direction of quakenet.org. But i can't really make head nor tail of how to create a channel and if a channel created on their servers will be compatible with vBXirc.
Any help would be appreciated.

I help run a small irc server. Very reliable, been their for 6 or 7 years. But small!! :)
log onto irc.ircjunkys.com with your irc client.
type: /msg nickserv register <password> <email>
This will give you access to you nick in the future, by typing /msg nickserv identify <password>
Next type /join #thenameofyournewchannel
/msg chanserv register #thenameofyournewchannel <password> <description>
Thats it... setup vBXirc to log onto irc.ircjunkys.com server, and join the channel #thenameofyournewchannel

Thanks Dreck. However, I am having problems working out how to log-in to your server. Sorry but I am VERY[I][U] new to IRC.
I am on a Mac and am using Snak. This program doesn't seem to give me the option of just log-ing into to server. I need to enter a network name before I can enter a server name.
So I created a new network name and then your server. But all it seems to do is to try and log me into the vB.nl irc server.
Sorry for the newbie problems but this is driving me mad.

As for the network name maybe try irc.ircjunkys.com. Or the IP which is 65.40.137.13
In mIRC the network & server can be the same. Unless you have multi IP's sharing the same network, then they can be different.
Jenta, I likes your irc hack, I just installed & works like a charm
