View Full Version : vBXirc 3.0.0 Beta 1

Zachery
10-01-2005, 10:00 PM
This is an early build of vBXirc.

This is a beta hack, use at your own risk.

Known issues:
[X] At present time, I am not yet filtering templates for replacement urls 100%

Resolved by not having any rules to filter and or replace
[] Smilies options have not been added into the Settings or the chat template
[] There are no usergroup settings at this time.
[] This hack as not yet been installed on any live systems, but my test system worked 99% fine.

very short private beta test
[] pjirc is the only supported java module at this time

There is a way to add 1 additional template at this time.
Planned Ideas / Future Features:
[] Add some sort of session tracking to show users are in the chat
[] Usergroup permissions
[] Smilie options

Some new things in general:
As of 3.0.0, we have moved to the plugin system and only vBulletin 3.5.0. All support for versions before 3.0.0 (vBXirc) and 3.5.0 (vBulletin) hae been discontinued.
Multiple Client support, over the next few months I will be adding more client support as I find them. If you have your own or have one you like and want it added, you can make your own called custom.cht and put it into the inc directory and select the custom option in the ACP Settings. If you want to submit a client, please email vbxirc [at] digitalkore (dot) net, It will be revied and if it can be added it will. The current template is located in inc/pjirc.cht.

I think thats it for now.

The code is atad messy atm as its early/late and I know it works correctly.

Install Instructions
1. Upload the Chat Folder to your forums directory
2. Upload / Import the Product file
3. Configure settings
4. Add a link to the navbar

<a href="#" onClick="window.open('$vboptions[bburl]/chat/','key','WIDTH=750,HEIGHT=575,scrollbars=no,');ret urn false">Chat</a></td>
5. Enjoy

Better install instructions and a complete installer soon.

Ummm a bit more detailed instructions for n00bs like me? :)
I would also like screenies! :)

If beta 1 has any problem can it cause harm to the forums or just the chat wont function properly?

edit: Just saw that there are better instructions planned. :) I think that I'll wait till a RC... (or maybe I'll install it in my test forums when I have time)

I took a look at jenta's Its not exactly the same, I take some extra precautions, but its a user choice at this point in time. I think my code ends up with atad cleaner username.

vBXirc was my pjirc hack for 2.0 3.0 and I was running it for 3.5 locally (minus all the fancy stuff).

vBXirc will be expanded to use other clients over time
It seems now that all of jenta's files are in the root directory, this makes things cluttered for me, mine is a chat folder.

When I released this I was going on very few hours of sleep :p I removed it as after I had goten some sleep I relized how many stupid noob coder mistakes I had made.

'' instead of "" in some places etc.

I want to polish the system atidbit more before releasing it, and at least get all the template replacements working.

Now if you have questions / comments / feature requests / client requests

main features. mutli themes capable so it adapts to the current user theme. i think ya already have that.

need a count of whats going on how many users in the chat. and so on. would be nice to be able to strip some code for the last so and so lines as well..

there are some old eggdrop scripts for the old version of vbulletin and since your a coder you might be able to use that and do some updating to allow eggdrop or mirc script to update the users..

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=61570&highlight=eggdrop

I was wondering if there was a way to intergrate username registration or an irc server into a hack like this.

Dan
10-25-2005, 06:12 PM
Unlikely if you are using a normal network with lots of users, someone could likely have already registered the nick or your user already registered it. Also storing the passwords for the irc network would need some way to be encrypted and then decrypted before sending it to nickserv. I'd think this would be a hefty security risk.

Works great, but the same problem with Jeta's PJIRC script; if you are signing in as a registered user, it will want a password. The syntax for the identify command on the server I use is /pass (password) is there some way to create a profile field that is the Chatroom Nickname Password or such, and then have pjirc extract the password and issue the command? If you try to manually type "/pass (password)" it will immediately come back and say Not Connected.

You really can't auth to the server untill its connected. This isn't a problem with jentas mod, or mine for that matter, but a limitation of IRC programs and clients in general.

I will see what can be done.

Also this command can be veried greatly depending on the server you are connecting to and the services its run.

Generally somthing like
/msg NickServer identify username password
or
/msg NickServer identify password
or
/msg NickServer login password
or
/NickServer identify username password
or even
/ns identify password

Switched servers, was the only way to get around the issue. The server that I was using wouldn't allow you to fully connect until you identified, but since the pjirc java client wouldn't allow you to enter any command until you were fully connected, it then wouldn't work. Identifying works fine with Everywherechat's Java client, and with mIRC. Ah well, thanks anyway. :)

If you can showme the Everywherechat's Javan client, I'll make a template for use with vBXirc :) it does support custom templates.

I decided to not add a header / footer / navbar for bad url issues. Plus Personally I wouldn't want to see that stuff If I was using the chat.

Hey Zachery, thanks for adapting this for 3.5.x

Quick question though. Anyone using IE...shows up as a "Guest" in IRC. If Firefox is used...they are logged in with their username.

Any ideas on what that might be.

Also, about half of my users get this error:
"start up error: java.lang.IllegalAccesError:irc/security/prv/specificMSSsecuredProvider"

I think we managed to deduce that it is the Java plugin causing that issue, as I had someone install Firefox...and by doing so the newest Java install...and it worked fine for them after that. Just wanted your 2 cents though.

Thanks!

zachery ive checked out the site and found some info on changing the appearance. but it looks like whatever index.php is loading is some creation stuff that i need to change within these files. i want my colors to be changed to something else so i have to edit one of your files i guess to make that happen.

if i overwrite your index.php with what im being told to do, it wont be integrated with the forum and the users connecting using the cookie and all that.

what needs to be altered if i want to edit the colors?

i need to get this code in there somehow:

Considering this is all PHP language and I don't seen anywhere how vB altered database communications, is it possible to use this version with a 3.0.x verion of vB? Seems plausible. Anyone advise me? I wanna ask before I attempt.

Its using 3.5 varible,s you'd need to do some work on it.

Hey Zachery, thanks for adapting this for 3.5.x

Quick question though. Anyone using IE...shows up as a "Guest" in IRC. If Firefox is used...they are logged in with their username.

Any ideas on what that might be.

Ditto!

Are you sure you are not just logged in on firefox and not in IE.

So far I have been using the PJIRC integration on our forum and I'm waiting to switch to this one as soon as the 'Who's Chatting' feature is added. This is a key feature our users are looking for at the moment and they keep complaining about not knowing if people are in there without connecting. When can we expect this to be added? All I see is 'I've been busy' and I understand that, but please at least give us an estimate. Thanks.

For those saying that they're waiting for the "Who's Online to be added", I just went and used the IRC Manager version 2 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=102771) (running a 3.5.4 vb) and it worked fine. Definitely something to keep in mind while waiting.

Awesome mod, Zachery. Thanks so much.

I posted some about this in the original vBXirc thread, but I don't think it's looked at much so I'll post here. My members are getting strange connection errors. Not all, just some. Most common it seems is:

Connecting...
[07:04] Unable to connect : null
[07:04] Not on a channel
[07:05] Connecting...
[07:05] Unable to connect : null
[07:05] Error : Not connected

What causes that null just for some people?

Zachery

Are they behind a firewall of anysort? Any type of port filtering? Do they have a recent version of java installed?

lazserus
06-30-2006, 01:03 PM
No firewalls. Standard user errors. I mean, who knows if they have the latest java environment installed? Most of the time when a java app is presented on the web and is more advanced than the current java environment installed, it prompts to update.

Anyhow, this is just one of many constant and random errors some members are getting. I'll check out the port filtering from the null folks. That just may be it. I've seen some really wacky stuff. Unable to Connect: Erroneous nick. I think that one is the strangest. I've logged in as the member and didn't have a problem. Everytime that member logs in he gets that erroneous error. He has to log out of the site and hit the chat as a guest and go from there. I absolutely know it's not an IRC issue.

Weird stuff, my man. Weird stuff.

Does this work on 3.6? Any chance it will be ported if not?

Zachery

Unable to Connect: Erroneous nick means that there is something wrong witht their username. What network are you trying to connect to. and what is his username.

AFAIK, Some IRC servers don't allow you to connect using "usernames" with capital letters in.

Connecting...
Logging in...
-- *** Looking up your hostname
-- *** Checking Ident
-- *** Got ident response
-- *** Found your hostname
Your username is invalid.
Connect with your real username, in lowercase.
If your mail address were foo@bar.com, your username would be foo.

Really? thats a new one to me...

I can do another more agressive filter or add an option.

I have not tried this hack since I use to use it prior to 3.0.0

I finally decided to put it back in on my vB 3.5 version.

But I am getting the following error when trying to open a chat:

Connecting...
Unable to connect : com.ms.security.SecurityExceptionEx : cannot connect to "irc.slashnet.org"

Does this have something to do with my IRC Server? I have it set in my admincp to irc.slashnet.org. This is the one I use to use before.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

attroll
08-05-2006, 05:08 PM
I don't know if the client is a secure client. It was the same client I use to use when I used your original vBXirc.

How can I tell if it is a secure client?

Do you have any other client recommendations?

Yes I have tried it on other computers and I get the same message.

If you don't mind I can send you the link in a PM and pre-register you on my site ahead of time or if I see you on AIM I can page you. I will not do that without your approval though.

Zachery, thanks so much for this facility.

I installed it on our site, and it is working great.

We have decided to move to a different IRC connection....
one which uses SSL (Secure Socket Layers) for security reasons.

One aspect of this, is that the port number must now be prefixed with a "+" (plus sign).

After I made this change, I now encounter an edit error with respect to
the connection string about an invalid character.

Any chance you could modify your logic to allow for this ?

And... accordingly... do you think there will be any problem using your facility to connect to an IRC server which now employs SSL ??????

Thanks again

Zach,

Please help. I want to add the header and footer to my chat so that it looks "integrated" within the site. However, it seems like I'm having problems with the image paths. How do you set it so it gets the images from the /forums directory instead of /forums/chat?

Thanks a lot for the help and great hack!

I think a forum-admin should know enough HTML to know that.

But here what you want:
<img src="../images/IMAGE.GIF" alt="" border="0" />

This would open the image "IMAGE.GIF" in the forums/images folder.

Hi,

it's working with 3.6.2 and also working with newest pjirc. :)
I'm searching for a nice clickable smily bar like FunChat for phpbb.
Perhaps somebody knows, how can i realize it (i'm not a java programmer).
