Self Explanatory.
Will showup on the member.php page and in the postbit / postbit_legacy
default path is
images/avatars/noavatar.gif
You can modify this by editing the two plugins.
I even took the time to make you guys a noavatar.gif file :)

Whats the hook location
:tired: Hook Location This specifies the location within the vBulletin code of the hook that will fire this plugin function.
How do you know which plug in uses what :surprised:
Good question. New to the plug in arena and could a FAQ's of these plug in's be available for plug in newbies added here?
I think it is pretty easy as you just select the Plugin System and select to Import Plugin Definitions XML File from download and if additional files are included, upload those to path specified by developer of plugin. If I am not mistaken?

I think so, I think for a plug in you select plug in manager enter the code from the xml file,enter your title and select location of HOOK..
I've tried this one and nothing is happening :glasses:
Edit: I Think you add it in 2 places see the code, it tells you the name of where you put the plugins.. off to try again :nervous:

You mean until an avatar is chosen? I would imagine that would be very easy indeed if the author of this plugin (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=94433) wouldn't mind his code being used, or something very similar. Although that relies on images not being stored in the db.
I like the idea anyway, although if it's just a random display it would have to say so somewhere, or they'd wondering why they had been already assigned an avatar, and why it kept changing :nervous:

Liked this idea, but went with
Link to thread on vbulletin.com (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?p=986460&postcount=7)
instead. It actually populates the avatar field for new users with a default avatar ID, so it shows up as normal everywhere else on the board without more plug-ins or template edits. I then went into phpMyadmin and pushed that same avatar ID into all users who had never set their own avatar.

I think I made a similar suggestion a few months ago - it would certainly be of benefit to those users that are new to discussion forums.
I have this plugin running on my site. I've just logged in to the site using Firefox and instead of my own avatar showing the 'no avatar selected' avatar is showing. Using MSIE my own avatar is showing. Anyone have any idea of what the problem is?

My avatars are set to 80x80 whilst the 'deafualt avatar' is 64x64. What is happening is that the 'deafualt avatar' (64x64) is being shown at 80x80 so it appears to be stretched out.
I've tried this with another person on their own computer and it's happening to them when they view their threads in Firefox. When I view the same thread in Firefox on my computer the new avatar is showing. It's almost as if Firefox isn't properly 'pulling' the image in - it's refreshing the image size but not the actual image.

Um, You are the first person in 400 instals to mention this. Short of you not uploading the avatar, this would not cause anyone who has an avatar to lose it, only users who don't have an avatar would get a red x because the imgage wasn't uploaded. Can you please point out other posts where _this_ hack has caused this? As I haven't seen it.

easy way to do it is edit the Default Avatar member.php in the Plugin System, where it says "images/avatars/noavatar.gif" just put the whole url for the site in like http://www.blah.com/forums/images/avatars/noavatar.gif
thats what i did, oh and the install button has been clicked

Alright, there appears to be some sort of bug in this. If a remember uploads a new avatar, the new one will appear in the postbit, but in their profile, it's a broken image. And after deleting the two plugins for this hack, nothing is showing in either the postbit or the profile.
How can I fix this?
Zachery

Can anyone say whether this plugin overcomes the bug where if a user purposely selects the "don't show avatars" option in their profile, they won't then see the "Default Avatar" for every user? This is a common complaint in every other default avatar hack, but I only saw one person mention it for this one. Maybe this one solves it? --Thanks.

If the user selects "don't show avatars", the default avatar is not displayed. It works as you'd want it.

Very odd that the default avatar will not show up in the memberlist, but it does show up for me when I view a users profile that doesn't have an avatar set. It also shows up in the postbit for any users that don't have an avatar set.
It isn't a big deal. It probably would be if it was the other way around. :)

Because of 3.6.x somehow don't like it and don'T want to import
I tried to do by hand going into AdminCP->Plugins & Products->Add New Plugin
Write as a title Default Avatar
Choose for Hook Location postbit_display_complete
Copy the code which is inside from <phpcode ><![CDATA[ ....CODE.... ] ]></ phpcode>
And second one as Default Avatar member.php
Hook Memeber_complete
Copied the second code that is inside <phpcode ><![CDATA[ ....CODE.... ] ]></ phpcode>
Working....

I extend the hack to Member Lists, combined with a Random Avatar suggestion from Michael Morris https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=95870
Now all members in memberlist shown with avatars, randomly choosen from a given folder /images/avatars/xx.gif.
Where xx is a number from 1 to 50, which means, you need to have gif pictures in that folder with a name using a number.
Again AdminCP->Plugins & Products->Add New Plugin
Write as a title Default Avatar memberlist
Choose for Hook Location Memberlist_bit
Give PHP code
if (!$avatarurl)
{
$randomavatar = rand(1,50);
$avatarurl = "/images/avatars/$randomavatar.gif";
}
$show['avatar'] = true;

HI I hate to see everyone having the same avatar, so i suggest a mod in the apropriate section so that each new registered member will have an apropriate COUNTRY avatar according to the COUNTRY they choose from the registeration. Tell me if this is possible.
The code for it is already written. However, I found it easier without using this plugin.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=139263&highlight=menu <-- Where I found the code.
However, this is what you do:
Go into the postbit_legacy template and find the following code
<if condition="$show['avatar']">
<div class="smallfont">
<br /><a href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]"><img src="$post[avatarurl]" $post[avwidth] $post[avheight] alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" /></a>
</div>
</if>
Change it to
<if condition="$show['avatar']">
<div class="smallfont">
<br /><a href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]"><img src="$post[avatarurl]" $post[avwidth] $post[avheight] alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" /></a>
</div>
<else />
<br />
<if condition="$post[fieldX]"><img src="images/YOURPATH/$post[fieldX].gif" alt="$post[fieldX]"></if>
</if>
You will need to change the "fieldX" to the User Profile Field that have your country list. Then you change the url to the location where you got your avatars saved.
It's important they are called the same thing as the inputs you have in the User Profile fields.
F.ex if Denmark, Norway and Sweden are in your list you need to have avatar files called Denmark.gif, Norway.gif and Sweden.gif.
If it's .png or .jpg files, even something else, you need to change ".gif" to that in the code.
Just PM me if you need more assistance with it.
However, that will only show the avatar in the postbit field, I'm trying to find out how to change it in the profile and memberlist also, I'm just experimenting my way through hacks.
edit:
I would be delighted if anyone could tell me how to modify my memberlsit by doing what I did in my postbit. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=1329549#post1329549
I tried a little, but it didn't work out, and I'm getting a little tired after a long workday
The code I was trying to change was in the memberlist_resultbit
<if condition="$show['avatarcol'] AND exec_switch_bg()"><td class="$bgclass"><if condition="$show['avatar']"><img src="$avatarurl" border="0" $avwidth $avheight alt="<phrase 1="$userinfo[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" hspace="4" vspace="4" /><else /> </if></td></if>
I tried replacing " " with my code, but think that was wrong since nothing came up.

if (!$this->post['avatarurl'])
{
$this->post['avatarurl'] = "images/avatars/noavatar.gif";
}
if ($this->registry->userinfo['showavatars'])

$show['avatar'] = true;
}
One one in the member_complete with this code:
if (!$avatarurl)
{
$userinfo['avatarurl'] = "images/avatars/noavatar.gif";
}
$show['avatar'] = true;
As you can see, I have the image in there too: http://www.makeuptalk.com/forums/images/avatars/noavatar.gif (click it)

djxcee, it's not a product, it's a plugin.
Um, it is a product that adds two plugins to vBulletin?
Checked your forum, looks like it's working.

Um, it is a product that adds two plugins to vBulletin?
Checked your forum, looks like it's working.
When I try to add the "default_avatar.xml" I get this message:This file appears to be a Plugin, not a Product. Please use the Plugin Manager to add this file.
So that tells me it's a plugin and NOT a product.
BTW, it's not working in our profiles
Thanks for trying to help though.

You screwed something up.
Zach, it doesnt work with 3.7 on the member page. Postbit works though!
Yeah 3.7.4 only the postbit is supported, but I guess that's not too much of a problem. It would be nice if you could update this plugin!

Has anyone figured out how to get this to work on the member pages for 3.7 and 3.8?

Is there a mod like this that works for v3.8.x?
Like other people are saying, it works on the postbit, but it does not work on the members list or the profile page. How to make it work?!?!? :D
