I have 4 Lisences all pointing to live websites and they are active and kicking. I am just getting used to vBulletin and hacking and after a year of using it I am finially getting used to and familier with all the variables and options. Needless to say I am LOVING vB and I have been hacking the heack out of my websites. However I am starting to play with some features and modify code that I am a little iffy about and I would like to put a instillation on a spare domain I have so that I can play with it, hack, mod, plug-in, extend, break, fix, and well fudge up.

One thing that I hear all over is test it on a side board before you do it. I must admit I have not been doing that because I dont want to break vB's Lisence Agreement and loose all of my sites. Is it ok for me to have a board that I just use to hack and reinstall or do I need a seperate lisence for that.

Anyone willing to sum up the legal version of vB's answer would be greatly appreciated.

According to the liscence agreement, its okay to run a seperate installation for testing purposes but the board cannot be publically accessible and should be located in a folder called test in the domain name that the liscence is registered under. Alternately, you can run an installation for testing on a pc/server at your house but again under the same condition that its not pubically accessable.

So the real short answer is no, you can't use your spare domain for testing your hacks =p.

The limitation is that it is not public accessible, so either use a .htaccess to protect it, or run it on your local PC not accessible from the internet.
