I have installed and reinstalled this hack on vb 3.5.3 and enabled html parse in usergroup admin and it does not work. The html does not get parsed and just shows up as html code... Can someone look at this issue I would like to use this :surprised:

When I try to post a table with html it doesn't parse it. It parses other html code though... The table i'm trying to post is like this:
<table cellspacing="0"><tr><td align="center">something</td><td align="center">something else</td>.....</tr>
<tr><td align="center">something</td><td align="center">something else</td>.....</tr></table>

Officially? Well.. it's working on vBE, that's running 3.6.1, and NZB running 3.6.0.

If I ever get enough time, there are issues I would like to fix:

Not make it parse html in code,php and html blocks
Add a 'Parse HTML in this Post?' checkbox (to workaround the above issue)
Work out why tables don't quite seem to work for people
Remove the <br /> visible in thread previews

And probably a few more.

very nice hack - one question though - possibly a dumb one, but o-well...
example: I want to post html code-only in the news forum - thread title is Represent JpiC On Your Website...

I'm posting as ADMIN and ADMIN is the only usergroup that parses html... Is there a way for me to not have the html code parsed, so that my users will be able to copy the code for their website?

what I don't want parsed:

<center><a href="http://JPiCForum.info"><img src="http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/1202/jpicad30pa.gif"></a><br />
Read My Poetry<br />
And Post Your Own For Free<br />
<a href="http://JPiCForum.info">JPiC Forum For Writers</a></center></center>

At anyrate - thanx for the hack = very useful ;)

Great idea.

Doens't work with 3.5.5 though. Assuming we post embded video in threads, the admins are they only ones who can do this. (great!)

After I post it, all the other admins can see it, but the moment a regular or unregistered members comes to view the thread, the contents change to unparsed html (not great)

We tried various combinations to ge this to work enable/disable html in forums etc. nothing changes this phenomenon.

Any ideas?

It didn't work with secondary group !!
I create another group which allowed members post html code. Then selected members from registered users, who are allowed to post html code by adding the secondary group above. => That doesn't work .
The question is : how do I allow some members to post html code with this hack ????

I doesn't work with Preview page !!! Any idea ???

Go to "Plugin manager". You should see there 4 hooks: (assuming that you don't have any other plugins installed)

bbcode_parse_start
bbcode_parse_start
editpost_update_start
forumrules

There should be 2 "bbcode_parse_start" hooks. On my system, one of them was disabled by default. After enabling it, the "Preview" page started to work properly.

I tested on VB 3.6.2.

I am not sure what your problem is, but read the following about the [HTML] BB tag:

The [html] tag allows you to perform syntax highlighting for HTML code.

You should use the [HTML] tag only to display HTML in a nice format, but you should not use it for HTML that needs to be interpreted as such.

I have a problem, don't know if its as a result of using this hack or vbulletin itself. What happens is, After posting tables iamges etc... if I try to Advance edit it, or select the alternative view (the one which shows you the post code) all table codes are gone so after saving the editing, The pots loses all its structure

Only use the basic editor if you want to keep the original HTML.

Just tried that, same error happens. Initially the table shows up (fancy looking), but when I press the 'switch editor mode' then All tables are gone. If the button es pressed again, the fancy looking table, has just lots all the structure and is not fancy anymore...
Thanks for trying anyways, it's greatly appreciated.

Any other ideas?

You must go to your "User Control Panel" and select the basic editor as the default editor. Whenever you use the "switch editor mode" option you loose the formatting, so you must make the basic editor the default in order to avoid using that option.

Hope this helps.

I can't find the option you are mentioning :( Ended up empty handed after looking thoroughly on both UCP and ACP.

Besides, its a bit extrange that in order to be able to edit tables I can only use simple view. If by default when I press edit, it inmediatly shows me de code (including tables) then It's what I'm looking for, else don't know what to do.

Just one aclaration, is it vbulletins fault or is it due to this hack that the tables get lost after pressing "switch editor mode"? (I doubt is due to this hack but still it is a valid question, I think.)

Thanks for helping mihai11 :)

Go to "User Control Panel -> Edit Option -> Message Editor Interface". You can choose Basic & Standard: both options are OK.

I attached a print screen with the option.

This is how things get done in VB. The built-in WYSIWYG editor doesn't support HTML properly.

It's the default VB behavior. It has nothing to do with this hack. It's easy to convince yourself - just try this on a clean VB installation :)

Hi Guys

I downloaded and installed this and have changed the permissions for the Administrator only so that I could create an HTML table in a post reply.

Sadly, I just seem to get in the preview:-

HTML code:

and then all the HTML code, it doesn't seem to be parsed.

I thought that may be peculiar to the preview so I tried submitting it as a reply but I get the same result.

Any ideas, as it seems to be foxing me at the moment!

Cheers

I found the answer - I didn't realise that not only did I need to set the permission for the usergroup, but also the forum permissions to allow HTML
within it.

One other thing I didn't realsie was that the HTML could be cut and pasted straight into thw WYSIWYG editor and doesn't have to be inserted as raw HTML code.

Some things will break if you do that. For example all "targets" for the anchor tag <a> will be lost. The WYSIWYG editor saves the post as BB code. In BB code it is not possible to specify the target of a link.

I think we discovered this was due to vB.. it parses stuff in tags when html is enabled for a forum.

At a guess, it could possibly be excluded from those tags, but I am somewhat buried in a pile of horrible stuff at the moment, so can't commit to looking into it for some time. :(

Anyone who does have the time, feel free to collaborate.

I installed this on 3.6.4 and it seems to work fine for me, with one exception: one user is having issues with a bit of javascript he previously had in his signature. The thing is, that could be as much an issue with my upgrade from 3.0.6 to 3.6.4 as anything to do with this mod.

NolF

what do you mean exactly?
Not sure how or why it happened.

I have a secction full of posts done with HTML, well pressented etc...
I gave my Mods (About 4 usergroups) HTML permisions.
During the 2 days I was setting up the forum (changed from PNphpBB to vbulletin) everything seemed fine with this hack.
Then I gave access to some other trusted users to test things out.
WHen a unlogged user would visit a HTML post, that user would not see the posts with html structure instead would see all the <table><tr> tags...
But that would be only for that user,that post would be screwed permanently. So unless a user with HTML permisions edited de post, it would have the tags... Users in usergroups with HTML permisions would not screwup posts, they only could fix them till another person visits that posts and screwes it again, and again...

so finally had to uninstall the hack activate HTML in the desired forums and re-edit all the screwed up posts

Ok, if anyone has figured this next question of mine out, then please share.

I installed all the code correctly. I edited the usergroups, and allowed only the "Admins" to have their HTML parsed (by setting it from the Usergroup Manager).

I then made a dedicated Video section: http://www.christianlinks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=74

I then made a post as an Admin and placed this code in there which resulted in an embedded Windows Media Player that should link to a video:

<p align="center">
<OBJECT ID="MediaPlayer" WIDTH="640" HEIGHT="360" CLASSID="CLSID:22D6F312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95"
STANDBY="Loading Windows Media Player components..." TYPE="application/x-oleobject">
<PARAM NAME="FileName" VALUE="/video/storage/WatchAndPray.wmv">
<PARAM name="autostart" VALUE="false">
<PARAM name="ShowControls" VALUE="true">
<param name="ShowStatusBar" value="true">
<PARAM name="ShowDisplay" VALUE="false">
<EMBED TYPE="application/x-mplayer2" SRC="/video/storage/WatchAndPray.wmv" NAME="MediaPlayer"
WIDTH="640" HEIGHT="360" ShowControls="1" ShowStatusBar="0" ShowDisplay="0" autostart="0"> </EMBED>
</OBJECT>
</p>

That thread with the now created embedded windows media player is located here: http://www.christianlinks.com/showthread.php?t=1243

It will not play at all, when you press the play button. The videos are there, and are located off of the root: /public_html/video/storage

I updated my counters, and rebuilt my post cache. Nothing at all. Does anyone know why this is, or has anyone here figured it out. I would not be surprised if others are using the windows media player embedded with this script.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed that clicking "Edit" from the vBadvanced News Module somehow bypasses the problems everyone is having with this hack and the HTML disappearing when trying to Edit with WYSIWYG in vB 3.6. If I go to the actual News forum however and click "Edit" the HTML still disappears

So, for all the people making excuses and saying that it is vBulletin's fault are wrong, wrong, wrong. If it were vBulletin's fault it would happen every single time you try to edit the post, but I've somehow found a way of "bypassing" it.

So devs/coders, please, please, PLEASE figure out how it works just fine when clicking "Edit" from the News module, but not the thread. If you figure it out then you might get it to actually work with 3.6.4.

I realize I can disable WYSIWYG, but I'm not going to sacrifice that. :mad:

Edit: Oh, and ironically, AnyMedia doesn't work in the News Module, but this HTML hack does, so I have to use two different mods to post videos in threads.

I've found it does work on vb 3.6.4 and with my test account I am still able to use the [ html]www.url.com[ /html] for members with out allowing them the access to being able to post html within the posts.

Great mod if I do happen to find any issues with it then I will post that as well but for now,. it seems to be working as stated.

I am not sure how to fix one thing that's driving me nuts, though. When I have the RSS Manager post, my posts have massive breaks between each paragraph. I found by looking in the HTML that, for whatever reason, two line breaks are being inserted. This is in addition to the paragraph tags that are already in the XML.

Is there some way to remove those breaks? They're not in my XML and it looks awful in the posts.

It really sucks that the HTML disappears sometimes...does anyone know what's going on? What exactly is the bug? I hope someone can figure this out, as I'm no coder, but it's really affecting parts of my forum that use the HTML function.

Has anyone encountered an issue with this where they save a pot, and the HTML is parsed fine in the output, but then you navigate to another page and come back, and it's not showing parsed just as code?

I recently moved server and this started happening, but even totally uninstalling/reinstalling the plugin doesnt seem to affect it. Ah well.

Temporary Workaround for HTML Deleting Upon Quickedit

It's quite simple. Just middle click on the Edit button OR Right click >> Open in New Window the Edit button.

The HTML only disappears if you have Quick Edit enabled. So opening it in a New Tab/New Window sends you to the Full Edit page. :)

I'd still like a *real* workaround, however.

I have written the author of this mod without success so I thought I would ask here. It appears that this mod works fine until the post ages out of the parsed post cache. When it ages out of the parsed post cache, if the next reader who reads it doesn't have HTML access for their usergroup, the post only shows up as HTML code unparsed. If a person with HTML access for their usergroup edits the message, it will then display once again in HTML until the post ages out of the parsed post cache again. Is anyone else having the problem? Is there a fix for this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Yepz...same here...although I didn't know the exact cause of it. Anyone got a fix? Thanks!What's disappointing about this situation is everywhere on this site that someone has requested a mod like this, everyone has been referred here to this mod, AND the author of the mod is on this forum often, so that means he knows about the problem and is simply ignoring people since I sent him both an email and a PM about the subject. When I made my original post, I checked his profile and his last visit was that same day. Why simply ignore one of the most widely desired mods because you can't find a solution? If you can't fix the problem, perhaps an open discussion of it could lead to a solution with help from other modders. But I simply do not understand ignoring people. Unsupported is one thing, abandoned on purpose is another.

Great mod but I'm having some probs and wondering if anyone knows how to fix it --

When I paste raw html adsense code in my post (basic editor) it turns out ok but then, when I save it, it adds <br /> to every line and thus breaks adsense.

No matter what I did it always inserts those <br /> tags! Any idea?

update: Looks like vb does it, not this mods fault.

ddmobley
08-27-2007, 04:45 PM
This is a simple fix to solve your problem: Make your line of HTML text all one line. Then it will display correctly.

On the other hand, it would be NICE if the author of the mod would simply admit that he doesn't know how to fix the problem with the HTML vanishing out of the post cache.

There is another mod for 3.0.6 at https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=75590 that modifies some files. Does 3.0.6 have the same post cache that 3.5.4 does? If so, I was wondering if using the other mod would work for 3.5.4 and eliminate the post cache expiring. I can't believe the author of this mod here refuses to at least comment on the post cache error.

ddmobley

I have been working with today and have found out that the display of parsed HTML with this mod is dependant on the Cached Posts Lifespan setting in the admin section. If you turn post caching OFF by entering a 0 in the field, the mod will not work at all, only rendering HTML to the user posting it. The next person who tries to read the post who is not in the user group that allows HTML, they will simply see a raw dump of the HTML code.

In a search for an answer to the parsed posts disappearing, I have modified my system to preserve the parsed post cache for posts that are sticky. On my system, the only posts that would have HTML in them are sticky posts, so it was, to me, only a question of how to keep the software's maintenance from deleting posts from the parsed post cache that were stickly posts. Here's how I did it:

In includes/cron/cleanup2.php, there is a code segment that looks like:

// expired cached posts
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
DELETE FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "post_parsed
WHERE dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24))
);

I edited it to look like this:

// expired cached posts
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
DELETE parsed FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "post_parsed AS parsed
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread ON thread.firstpostid = parsed.postid
WHERE parsed.dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24)) . "
AND thread.sticky = 0"
);

Edit: I found I was getting a SQL error in my previous modification, and found a new way of keeping the post_parsed_cache clean. This above works.

This simply checks the thread table for the existence of a sticky post ID that matches the post ID of a post in the parsed post cache. If there is a match, it doesn't delete that post's cache, it leaves it indefinitely, or until the post is manually deleted.

I ran into this too. So, I set out looking for a solution. I put code in the misc_bbcode_start hook and ran the rebuild post cache. No html worked still.

So, I hacked the file and ran it again. This time posts parsed properly.

Since it's only me in one forum doing html, this is easy to maintain.

Is it normal that admin functions skip hooks? Anyway, I'm good to go.

HA NO its working!

You have to turn HTML OFF in the forum because I was thinking to set the forum ON to allow the RSS to post html when the addon override the other user permissions, but that's not working that way because everyone was still able to post HTML, but setting html OFF in the forum made the job , the addon then only allow the usergroup to use HTML.
Hope I'm correct and won't find behaviours but it appear to do the job fine

Btw ddmobley I do not see where you can't get it working, I have tested with cached post lifespan 0 and it works like a charm, as soon as I allow my usergroup to parse HTML , its rendred correctly, if I change to OFF, then I'm refreshing the post , it's automatically no more HTML rendered. So no problems here.

Despite whether or not there is a "post_parsed_cached" problem... This mod is still far from perfect. I've asked a few times on here if there is some kind of fix for "Quick Edit - Disappearing HTML" in 3.6.x.

Just because it's "Not Supported" doesn't mean that he shouldn't try to update the product with bugfixes and new features, or to accommodate to new versions of vBulletin. I'm aware this mod is in the 3.5.x forum, but how many people actually still use 3.5.x here?? 5% of us? AFAIK, "Not Supported" means just that -- he's not going to answer questions in this thread. Like I said, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be updating this hack.

While I don't have the cached posts problem, there have been a few occasions where the HTML doesn't "stick" and I can NEVER by any means use this hack with Quick Edit. I have to be fully aware every time I'm editing a post with HTML and make sure to MIDDLE CLICK the "Edit" button so that the standard editor opens up instead. That == annoying and I probably should have just uninstalled this mod a long time ago.

However, I guess I'll get around it until vB finally includes a per usergroup HTML setting.

class101
10-28-2007, 03:35 PM
Yeah I see the quick edit bug now after doing some tests but not so big problem since the mod should be used firstly for enhancing the rss feed feature a bit too lite, the bug doesnt appear when its a posted feed, but the bug happen if I post myself HTML, so if you are using it everyday to post urself html stuffs right, better in this case to remove the mod and allow for a few second HTML manually in the options when you need and turn it off quickly , can't see another method, but that's safe because too much risks allowing HTML. At least that's ok with feeds I think, I'll survey this mod carefully

ho btw its from the kall from vbseo team, I bet he must be busy that's why he couldnt support this mod anymore

The post cache is a serious problem and without any known fix it invariably makes the add on useless or useful for a limited time.

I looked through and read all the 24 pages of posts, pretty interesting, and a few hiccups here and there. The theory in general is perfect, but defining what sections it affects and what sections it doesn't would be great. What you want is global command of having your posts parse the HTML while everyone else just posts there text. I remember that video mod that gives you the options of certain usergroups to allow to parse the video you post from youtube or whatever and originally when we restricted it, it really worked. You could see vids in normal accounts, and could post, but the post would only show the link. Only until an admin edited your post, would it parse the video and show it.

They need to build in the command for admins only and just force forum operators to admin people you want to use HTML and abandon the idea that people or regular members need the option to use HTML in there sigs and for posting. A whole member base on a website is bound to have a trouble maker or someone who doesn't follow the staffs rules and easily is someone you can spend all your time worrying about or who will post something they shouldn't HTML wise. That is why I'd restrict it to admins only.

After reading all of this and weighing whether to use the mod or not, the post cache parse error helped make the decision. Since the html information I'll be posting can never disappear I simply can't use this. I'm not really upset either because my original plan is what I'm falling back on and it basically allows only Admins to use HTML in the Admin CP, and then I just close the threads of the HTML I post. I will also turn off the ability NOT to use HTML as I need that on, but the ability for any usergroup to make new threads or new posts. In fact I don't even need to close the thread at that point.

That should work well for my needs and restrict through subforums the possibility of HTML use to myself, while making a separate subforum for commentary on any of the HTML and stuff.

I do appreciate your effort and amazing professionalism with that tool who posted in the middle of this thread. But this mod needs cleaned and the coding needs to be worked on as that error of the HTML disappearing due to cache is useless unless you prune your threads fairly fast.

On my system, the only posts that would have HTML in them are sticky posts, so it was, to me, only a question of how to keep the software's maintenance from deleting posts from the parsed post cache that were stickly posts. Here's how I did it:

DELETE FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "post_parsed
WHERE dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24))
);

I edited it to look like this:

// expired cached posts
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
DELETE parsed FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "post_parsed AS parsed
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread ON thread.firstpostid = parsed.postid
WHERE parsed.dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24)) . "
AND thread.sticky = 0"
);

This appears to work in 3.7 RC1 but the table "post_parsed" is now "postparsed".

So one would need to look for:

// expired cached posts
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
DELETE FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "postparsed
WHERE dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24))
);

and replace with:

// expired cached posts
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
DELETE parsed FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "postparsed AS parsed
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread ON thread.firstpostid = parsed.postid
WHERE parsed.dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24)) . "
AND thread.sticky = 0"
);

Addendum: Alternatively, if you prefer not to stick all of the threads that you want to put HTML in, and you want to be the only one allowed to use HTML, the following should work:

// expired cached posts
$vbulletin->db->query_write("
DELETE parsed FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "postparsed AS parsed
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread ON thread.firstpostid = parsed.postid
WHERE parsed.dateline < " . (TIMENOW - ($vbulletin->options['cachemaxage'] * 60 * 60 * 24)) . "
AND thread.postuserid != 1"
);

This assumes your user ID is 1. Substitute your user ID if that is not correct. Of course this can make for a large "postparsed" table.

Not sure what's going on with this or if it's been reported or even if it's a bug or not but..

I have a problem with disappearing HTML breaks < br >. The only way I can make them show up on the board is to add a space if trying to explain it to a member or in the HTML code use something like <***> and tell members to swap out the <***> for < br > (remove spaces

My members can post it and not have a problem and it only shows as inactive HTML but I can't. :confused:

I really need to be able to use HTML on the board and this mod looked like it would do the trick but this glitch is annoying.. well that and if I edit the post the code is gone.

I'm trying to post a large table into a post, with lots of sub-tables, images etc. This worked fine for me up to recently (I am using 3.6.0), and sometimes still does!

Here is an example:

http://www.punters-paradise.com/forums/showpost.php?p=64654&postcount=2

The problems began when I moved hosting company. Now some of the tables don't work. When I cut and paste the html (which works fine as I've checked it) the post appears blank. I narrowed down the problem to one section of the table - a particular cell which only contains plain text. If I remove that plain text and leave the cell blank, the table (minus that text obviously) appears perfectly. This problem doesn't occur all the time either, which is very puzzling.

An example of a table which won't work is here:
http://www.punters-paradise.com/forums/showpost.php?p=64779&postcount=32
and the 'offending text' (which should appear in the 'Preview' section) is in the next post:
http://www.punters-paradise.com/forums/showpost.php?p=64780&postcount=33

Any help or advice mucho appreciated!

Hi,

I'm quite new to installing things, but hope someone can help.

Install says:

To install: Upload the includes folder within the upload folder to your /forums/ directory.

Surely if I upload the includes folder in this mod, it will overwrite the existing includes folder?

Does it mean upload the contents of the folder?

Can anyone help on this?:(

Bradley_Wint

It will not overwrite the existing folder, it will just add the extra files. When you are done uploading, just load the .xml file and that's it.

Cheers Bradley, I'll give it a go.

Great mod, quick question. Should I, as Administrator, be able to have a post show as HTML on behalf of another user? In other words, if a user in the Registered Users group is not configured to post HTML, should the Admin be able to Edit his post and add HTML to it?

Hope I worded it clearly.

PoetJA-1975
06-21-2008, 01:43 AM
@ VOLARIUM - I've tried the same thing with this mod - It doesn't work, as the post is still considered the other users post - so unless that user is in a usergroup that allows parsing - it will not show, even if Admin who does have the permission edits the post.

Hope that's worded correctly LOL - interesting question = interesting answer :P

I'm running this on 3.7.2, and it seems fine.

It broke after the upgrade to 3.7 -- but all I had to do was go into the usergroup permissions page for the required HTML usergroup and save it. I didn't need to change anything, just save it. That seemed to kick it back into action. Hope this info helps someone.

So you ALLOW HTML for the specified user groups...

But do you turn HTML OFF for the forums and the usergroups override that? Or do I turn HTML ON for all the forums and I am just safe because the "normal" usergroups don't have permission?

Now, can I confirm - for this to function, I have to make a forum's permissions to allow HTML, and then disable all (but chosen) usergroups from using html?

Very nice, I just installed this on 3.7.3.

For you folks asking, here is how I made it work:

1. Install product
2. Go to usergroups and turn on the parse HTML setting for those usergroups you want to be able to post HTML
3. Go to forums and turn OFF the HTML setting in all forums

Only users who are allowed to post HTML will have it parsed and displayed.

VERY nice mod, thanks!

One thing I have just noticed about this mod:

While I can post HTML, in 3.7.3 if I go to edit a post, the HTML is not visible to edit (yes, I am switching over to code view using the little A/A button).

Is there any chance that can be fixed?

karlm
10-04-2008, 06:37 PM
Yes RS25com, I noted this too. Also, as I mentioned above, in vbAdvanced, the HTML does not parse at all and is displayed as pure html code. However, if you then go to the forum manager (ACP) and enable HTML for that forum, it will display correctly on vbAdvanced - which somewhat defeats the object, unfortunately. It is, nonetheless, and excellent tool.

RS25com
10-04-2008, 06:43 PM
While I am using vbadvanced, I don't display any posts on the home page of my site. All my content requires a thread to be entered first, so that doesn't affect me (although it will other users).

If those two bugs are fixed, I think it would be perfect. :cool:

punchbowl, so you just enable it to get the html code saved in a Post (so the html code won't get parsed out) then simply disable the entire mod? I assumed you had to have this enabled to get the html code to be displayed even... interesting..

yep exactly. I install the xml through the cp, post my html then uninstall it the product from the cp.

I'm running 3.7.3

I tried just disabling it but then the posts eventually turned into unparsed posts. So I edited my post above to change disable to uninstall. Obviously you can leave the php file up.

Correct. I really like this mod, I use it all the time. :)

To edit, I just do a View Source of the HTML page I am editing, copy the HTML to the clipboard, then edit the post and paste the HTML in. Luckily for me, I only ever have 1 line of HTML (an Iframe) so it's not much of a hassle. :)

Yes. By only allowing admins to post in HTML, guests & registered members, etc. cannot post in HTML but they can see the results of an admin posting something in HTML.

Very useful plugin! Thanks for this.

Using with 3.4.7 -- no problems seen so far other than as previously noted.

Sometimes these vB folks are just plain slow on the uptake. This has been a needed feature since before the advent of "web 2.0". Now it is urgently overdue.

In plain English, for today's modern web, it is important that forum managers have the ability to post HTML "rich" content, ad lib.

For this feature, vB should not make itself the HTML police. The forum manager/owner/administrator has to be able to post active content on their boards.

Well, installed on 3.7.5 (never installed it before). I assumed I would be able to use the exact same HTML that we use in Notices and Announcements (HTML enabled) in the Posts, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

I uninstalled it... I noticed the only file uploaded to the forum for this Mod is bitfield_allowhtml.xml (in /includes/xml).

Question: I assume it's ok for me to simply delete this file after uninstall, is that correct?

Any whitespace between </td> and <td> or </tr> and <tr> becomes break tags which are not valid outside of the cells and rows of a table, so they are displayed ABOVE the table.

You must remove all whitespace in your table if you want to reduce the gap above the table.

This is because of the post parsed cache. When a user with HTML posting access posts an HTML message, his access level produces a valid HTML-viewable page, and a copy is stored in the vb_post_parsed database table.

When the post parsed cache time limit is reached, the post is deleted from the cache. The next time someone views the page, the code that builds the page is pulled straight from the vb_post database table, and if it happens to be a user who does not have HTML posting capability, it will display a page full of junk code.

I have posted about this error repeatedly in this thread, but the author refuses to comment on the issue, or return emails or PM's about it. You can read some of my posts in this thread about how I solved the issue for myself. Since I only allow HTML for the administrative user group and only on sticky messages, I was able to find a workable solution. There is a number of places where the post parsed cache is purged in the software, so even if you implement my solution, you may still have problems somewhere else.

It's a real pain to have to go in, edit and resave all the HTML posts periodically, but you aren't going to get any assistance on this from anyone here. You can also open the posts in question in the vb_post_parsed database table and set their dateline date to some time way in the future, like 9999999999.

This could be an awesome mod with this one issue fixed.

Is there a way to control the way that vBulletin handles blank lines? Right now, it automatically adds <br> to every single blank line - this causes problems when you separate HTML tags with lines.

Can I make HTML parsed posts ignore the blank lines so that I can have full control over <br> ?

It was never designed as an OFF switch, it's supposed to override the OFF switch in Forum Options.

ie: If you set a forum to have HTML on, then HTML is on, this mod won't change anything.

jacobsen1

so I should set the admin group to on and leave all forums off and it should work?

edit:
just checked, having HTML off in a forum, but the usergroup set to on DOES NOT WORK in 4.0.7.
right now, this mod doesn't really do anything, setting the forum to on makes HTML work for everyone, setting it to off breaks it for everyone...
