notice how the forums look almost 3d and stand out? I've seen this in a lot of other styles too. How do I do that? I don't know if this has been posted before.

I want to avoid images if I can :) My forum is 56k friendly.

Would have been nice if you could show me your forum. :| I want to look at the default skin.

I know I'm doing everything wrong in terms of focusing on one thing and all, but its basically only a forum for me and my friends so I don't care about how many people register :/

... if your forum is 56K friendly, avoid completely any kind of complicated content/style... that's all...

the internet as it is, always advertise higher styles and looks, but only because users now have the ability to access them with highspeed... if you want your users with a 56k modem to access your forum, don't think it will be better for them to have style on your forum, we call this "backward compatible"...

what you can do to make it 56k is to go to http://www.templatemonster.com/ and look at the OLDEST templates... they are not that good looking, but they are built for 56k ...

Does the forum in the first post use vB? If so, they no longer have the copyright. Is that an issue?

No that is not a vB forum.
