Bump Thread

Hi vB hackers,

today I browsed my board and found one small thing which drives me crazy from time
to time.
I think every board owner knows the following.

You have written an important thread and want that most of your guests read it.
A lot of people do but then someone else is creating a new thread and yours is not listed on the forumhome anymore.

Making a thread sticky is not a solution and you are not willed to create such threads in a forum where only admins can write so that it stays actual and new.
Also its not an announcement so what can you do?

You do it like all the others by going into that thread and writing an answer.
I see it often here where someone simply writes *bump* under a thread so that its going to the top again and get attention.

I want to see a BUMP UP button in the THREAD TOOLS menu where
the author, the moderator of the forum and super mod/administrators can bump up a thread again.
The bumb up button should mark it as new and give it the date from where the button is pressed.

That would be a nice addition to vB and should be standard.

Yah have to admit - would love to see a plugin version versus file hack to implement this into v3.5

There was a bump/make thread older hack in 3.0x which worked fantastic - but it was a code hack.

If someone can make a plugin for this that would be perfect!

I haven't looked at it, but I am 99.99% sure that it would be easy to port this 3.0 Hack to be a Plugin.
=> Contact the author and ask for a port or permission for others to port.

With maybe an automated Bump message option where if you don't eneter a reason or text for bumping it will add some predefined text instead.

I will certainly need the functionality for 3.5 myself, however I still don't have a migration date for my forum as that is somehow complicated for me.

I am now releasing all my hacks in a "do whatever you want with my code" license, I think it's healthier that way. If you or one or your mods want to modify it for 3.5 please go ahead :)

As you can see - Kentaurus very kindly has allowed his code to be used in a 3.5 update.
Sadly I am not able to provide this change myself but wonder if someone more able might be able to take a shot based on Kentaurus allowing his code to be used?

Love this hack, but would still REALLY LOVE to see a hack that allows Admin to "mark" certain threads for automatic bumping. This way you don't have to go through and find them all the time.
