Just finished my first attempt at skinning a vBulletin forum. I aimed to get the forum to blend in nicely with my wiki (http://www.developersdigest.org).

Let me know what you think...[link (http://www.developersdigest.org/forum)]

RossOliver,

You are currently showing up as unlicensed. To be able to download hacks and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (http://members.vbulletin.com/membersupport_priority.php) (vB-germany users click here (http://members.vbulletin-germany.com/membersupport_priority.php)) and enter your email address, to show us that you are licensed.

You will need to use your customer number and password (which will be in the email you got when you paid for your license) to access that page. Please note that your email is case sensitive. The update of your account may take up to one hour.

Thank you.

It's not pirated; the licence is not mine - someone gave me the software because they have two licences (one currently unused). I'm using it until they need it, then I will buy my own. I wanted to try it out before I commit.

-RossIf you have a valid license connected to your site, i advice you 2 things:
- Contact support @ vbulletin.com to verify your license and the url connected to that license
- Use official software downlaoded from teh member area, and not a pirated copy found somewhere on the net. Those pirated copies are full of backdoors and security holes.

PS This is not just a sales story, if you want a demonstrations, just say so, but have a good backup prepaired before you do (or i could make one for you).

Oh dear - I got it along the lines of 'I like the look of the vBulletin software'...'I have a licence going spare you can use to try it out' and they emailed me the software :/

I guess I'll try and get the info so I can download it myself or purchase my copy sooner rather than later :ermm: . Will I easily be able to switch from the software I'm currently running to one I get from vBulletin.com?

Cheers,

-Ross

PS. Am I breaking a regulation by using his licence when he's not using it? I don't think it's directly connected to my website - I planned on using it until he needed it then I would purchase my own, but if that's breaking a rule I will get mine now...

If he got a license (which i doubt if he sends you pirate versions of software) then he can change the URL connected to his license. Until that you are techinically running illegal vBulletin software and legal actions could be taken. Only sites registered with a license are allowed to use the software.

If you have not made any file edits, upgrading to an officail version of the software would be as easy as to re-upload the files.

I made changes to a few files, but I think I can remember the ones I changed. I'll make sure he has a licence and see if I can get it transfered to my domain. If he hasn't and he sent me illegal software I'll break his legs!

Cheers,

I'll break his legs!

via email.

I have a PHP script that does that....uses JAVA for the client side "leg breaking". AJAX even to update the broken parts in real time without reloading.

LMAO..sorry for intruding.
