I do see members come in and out of the thread a quick comment would be nice to help find a resolution.

I am trying to set up a Usergroup timmer. This hack would do wonders for almost anything.

Say you set this usergroup to have a 24 hour timmer. or even 20 minutes. They then will have access to specific chat rooms or forums or private messages. Hell even view private areas or extra sections in the members profile (web page hack)

one the time is up they revert back to the user group they once were on.
This could work with almost any hack on vb.org (Arcade, journals...) To prevent so many updates this hack should be done for main and secondary usergroups. All it does is make a usergroup you pick have a specified timer. thats it.

I obviously do not know how to do this. But it would resolve 75% of the ideas I would like to use on my board.

You can no use promotions in this fashion. What if the user does nothing but chat. (say using flash chat) nothing has changed for the promotion to change besides time. This WITH the promotions is what I would use it for myself but you can use it with subscriptions as well.

It would be insane if that timmer was visual and worked with the servers clock. That would be insane.

Please help out. I am not the most loved here but I know at least 40 users would want to use this.

I am not on 3.5 (no need) so I would love to see this for a 3.x.x system that way all can enjoy this.

Sure when 3.5 is a real product (final) this would be awsome for it as well.

Thank you.

consider using 'scheduled tasks' to revert people's usergroups.

consider using 'scheduled tasks' to revert people's usergroups.Have you even been on lavalife? No? Yes? Well you can pay by credits. so say 20 credits gets you 20 minutes of chat time and a post cost you 5 credits. after its up your back to nothing.

Im trying to do that style of interface. scheduled tasks doesnt seem correct for that.

Yep great idea for a hack this would open up many many possibilities, lets hope the challenge is taken up.

Scheduled tasks is about your only option to revert someones usergroup based on a time restriction. Thats not difficult to do (but semi server costly if you need to check every minute).

How were you planning on 'adding' them to a usergroup? That could make a difference. (i.e. they purchase a 'subscription' or something?)
