Well, i just want to say nice hack, this is where i have been waiting for! This should be standard in vb :P
Sig width and height isn't really practical. It depends on the settings of the user viewing the post.

What do you mean "not practical"? It would be a limit set for a max width and height and filesize.

Limiting width for images would seem like it would require the use of a div or something similar that would scroll anything bigger. Perhaps I am wrong.

cause ppl may think you were talking about limiting the whole sig size. It was a hack b4. Sigs aren't just for images.

Do these restrictions apply to Administrators/Super Moderators, as well?
Andreas
09-03-2005, 03:38 AM
@boofo
I could ... but I don't need that as I don't allow Images in Sigs anyway (Sigs are Text, max 4 Lines 80 Characters each according to Usenet Netiquette :))
@acidburn0520
Administrators are excempted
@nexialys
Breaking this down to Usergroup Level would be possible (although a change in how BBCodes are handled would be necessary).
But the same as I already answered to boofo also applies here: I don't need that :)

Andreas
09-03-2005, 10:18 PM
Usage
-----
Go to Usergroup Manager and edit the Permissions - use 0 to disable.
To define "internal URLs", go to ACP > vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details
Note on BBCodes: If a User is Member of several Usergroups (and his primary Usergroup can have Membergroups),
then only those BBCodes disabled in all Usergroups where he is a member will not be available to him.
Which part of these instructions don't you understand?

/admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields is needed in all situations to update the bitfields of permissions...
it's all showing correctly from here though!
thanks KirbyDE to have move this to permissions!!! (my request!)

Andreas

It's not necessary - the Product install Code rebuilds the Bitfield Cache automatically (well, at least it should).
3.5 RC2 here. Just installed as a product and uploaded the xml to the correct place (it says /includes/ so thats where it is).
Seems to have added the plugin fine, but I DON'T get the usergroup permissions as described.

Andreas
09-04-2005, 01:40 AM
It shows only on profile.php?do=editsignature ... and if your Template is heavily modified, chances are it won't show up at all :D
Anyway, you can always take a look at the Plugin and modify it to suit your needs.

If you need to look for some more ideas you can check out https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=79566
The limits on my board seems to be working fine.
But I now always get an error flash up then i save a usergroup. (see attachment)
I have only just noticed this, so I am assuming it must be to do with the sig-limit plugin
EDIT: Just tested: If i remove the bitfield_siglimits.xml file.. that error goes away
Andreas
09-04-2005, 11:15 AM
@GoNzOO
Hmm, which instructions do you need?
I thought I mentioned everything that is necessary in the Readme ...
Also, if the limit is set to 5 lines you should not be able to enter 10 lines.
Does your Account have any additional Usergroups?
Did you edit the Signature in ACP or through profile.php?
If you edit it in ACP/MCP there will be no checks.
@Mith
For some reason the Bitfield cache did not get rebauild, see Post #32 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=767607&postcount=32).
Call that URL and it should work afterwards.

Kirby, running this code worked thanks:
/admincp/index.php?do=buildbitfields
I have a suggestion to make this sig limiter nigh on perfect:
I need this to check that current users are within the limits I have set, and if they aren't it needs to take them to their signature to put it right (perhaps with a large message explaining the rules and what they need to do to change it)
Thanks for your hard work
Andreas
09-04-2005, 03:28 PM
Hmm, that requires a bit more work ... i'll take a look into that, but don't expect anything that does what you want being release any time soon.

Also add that you can ban some sites being used to host like geocities.com ugh
Kirk Y

Disable external URLs.
Edit: BTW Kirby, small gramatical issue: the 3 "then"s you have in the Posting Rules under Edit Signature should be "than". Would it also be possible to set a seperate setting for the amount of smilies that can be used in Signatures? When I set the allowed number of images, I mean those set using the [img] tag. I don't want to set a limit on the number of smilies a user can implement.
Big time HOTM, way to go Kirby.
Andreas
09-04-2005, 05:27 PM
@Zain Faffer
Maybe ...
@acidburn0520
Hmm, checking the # of Images is done by vBulletin itself - and it does not differentiate between Smilies and Images.
But it should be possible to get around this.
Andreas
09-04-2005, 06:21 PM
OK, I've corrected the spelling, separated Images and Smiles, added a new setting for Smilies - but I am not sure if this does work correctly already.

I am also wondering if this works with RC3 as, we set our permissions in the usergroups, to allow them to use images, we turn on sigs, but the sigs will only show up if we turn on the [img] file. Now the only other way around this would be to not allow text sigs for our normal users at all, but we are looking to allow [img] for some groups and just text sigs for others.
Andreas

Nope only members, I limit the image to 1 by 1 pixel which should basicly eliminate thier pictures. But they still come up, they also beat the only 1 pictured allowed rule.

Thanks Kirby, you know, I realized probably the best way to handle it anyhow is to have a mod edit their violating sig out with a message, since the user would need to re-enter it they would then need to abide by the set requirements. Thanks!
Christine
09-25-2005, 02:04 PM
I would love a script that checks against existing! :D
Just wanted to share these scripts. As we are trying to decide what limits to set, I am running them to make the changes globally rather than going through the control panel. Once we have finished, we can fine tune on a usergroup level.
If anyone uses these, you need to replace the 'x' in the script you use with the number that you want for that field.
update usergroup set maxsiglines = 'x';
update usergroup set maxsigfontsize = 'x';
update usergroup set maxsigimgsize = 'x';
update usergroup set maxsigimgwidth = 'x';
update usergroup set maxsigimgheight = 'x';
update usergroup set maxsigimages = 'x';

I had installed this plugin but hadnt turned it on... I did that tonight and started getting this error.
Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /includes/class_core.php on line 627
After turning it back off I still got the same error.
So I uninstalled it... and got the same error.
Then reinstalled it and with a fresh reinstall the error has gone away. Though I havnt turned it on sence.
The above error is shown when you save the settings in Usergroup Manager and edit the Permissions from 0 (default after install) and you are being redirected.
Any ideas? Btw... I am using RC3....

Fantastic feature!!! I just added it to our system.
Is it possible to add a variable to define the max char length of the line? Right now, a user can put 100 words into a single line, and have it take up 7-8 lines total.

I had the exactly same problem. vBulletin Germany helped me and found out that this hack is causing it. Some Threads can't be opened with a specific string inside. The Error is e.g.

Awesome addon!
I have one feature request though... could you add an option to set a length at which lines will wrap at and force a new line? If a user types a loooooong line of text into the edior without carriage returns, it could conceivably get around the text line limitation. I think. Not too sure.
I see there is a 500 character limit (probably settable in the admincp), but on a lower resolution (like maybe 800x600 or lower), I think 500 characters may be able to wrap to 4 or more lines. It may be nice to be able to force a point at which signature lines will wrap.

Julie

Just a quick question;
Go to Usergroup Manager and edit the Permissions - use 0 to disable.
If you enter 0, does it disable the extension itself (so a user can enter whatever she/he wants), or does 0 mean, they can't enter anything, at all?
Also,
Maximum Number of Signature Images
Say, if I enter a value of 3, does it calculate all of the 3 images, to make sure they're within the max height and width? Or does it just calculate for one image, so that a user could have, like in my case it's max 350x100, a user could have 3 350x100 images next to each other?
Thanks :)

@KirbyDE ... is there anyway to have this mod and only allow the links to work in the sig's. MY site I have live links turned off for security reasons and we were going to allow sig's only hosted on our server...thanks to your mod. Only issue is once this is installed it bypasses the BBCode shutoff for the [URL] and allows live links to be posted in threads.

kwopper

AdminCP..vBulletin Options..BBCodes..remove the check from
Links ([URL], [EMAIL], [THREAD], [POST])
instead of a live link you get just the link with the [url] tag on each end. If you can suggest anyway to not allow live links in the threads and only in the sigs so your mod would work...that would be great...

On the 'valid urls' issue.
I just had this crop up today twice.. No way you can force everyone to use valid urls, you can get complete destruction inside threads (they are rendered completely unreadable with php errors and duplicate header errors) rendering a thread unusable by anyone after them. It definately can be a security issue since any user can register and create a hassle in threads. I've turned off that one section for now and I'm hoping there will be a workaround for those who post http:slashslashhttp:slashslash in their posts back to back (on purpose or by accident).
:D
Andreas
10-16-2005, 08:07 PM
Sure there is a workaround:
Put @ in front of the parse_url() call and the errors will not show up, but is impossible to avoid them.

Am I correct in assuming that if I leave the url plugin disabled on this, that it will ONLY affect the "Links to external Websites" functionality and the rest will work properly?
I can live with that, since I don't mind if people link to external sites in their sigs/sigimages.

Unfortunately, with 73,000 members I don't have much control over what they post. If someone posts something with an invalid URL, then the whole message becomes unreadable and it posts an error.
Any chance the code could be modified to ignore bad URLs or is this just something we have to live with if we want to use this mod?

Very nice mod -- thank you!
One minor problem: If you have a joinable group, then when a user is a member of that group they will get whatever the sig limits are in that group. As far as I can tell, there is no way to disable the sig limits applying on just that group (if you disable them on the joined group, then the user has no sig limits at all, regardless of their main group settings).

Permissions are inherited if the primary usergroup allows membergroups.
This is how the permissions system does work.
lazytown
10-26-2005, 12:31 PM
I don't think I made myself clear on this. The way permissions usually work with multiple groups for a user is they get the best of either group. So if one group says 15K attachments and the other says 20k, a user in both groups gets 20k.
Are you saying that if one group has 4 lines and the other has 5 lines, the user will get 5 lines? If so, then I cold just set the extra group to 1 line and they will always get the setting of their primary group.

The updated XML file fixed the bitfield problem in the ACP, but I'm getting these kinds of errors when browsing threads:
Warning: parse_url(http://#): Unable to parse url in /includes/class_bbcode.php(149) : eval()'d code on line 38
When I disable this product, they go away.

To fix this, make sure that only valid URLs get posted, edit Plugin "Derefer/External Link Check" and add a @ in front of parse_url() tu supress the warning or disable this Plugin (you will lose the ability to check for external URLs)

That did it :) Thank you :D

What does the "precedence" paremeter in your XML serve for?
Andreas
11-05-2005, 02:47 PM
Normally higer values would be taken. To be able to have 0=Unlimited, it must be made sure that 0 overrides all other values - this is what precedence is for.

If the image limit is three the hack will not allow to have three pictures in the signature. The error-message always says they are too big in size or data.
Does someone have an idea? Maybe a workaround?

Can you give more specific information:
What is the exact message?
What are the exact limits set (width, height, filesize, amount)?

Stephan It will take the combined dimensions. If you have 100x150 set, than the three images combined can't go beyond that.
One of my favorite features. :D

The message:
Your signature image(s) are too large. The maximum dimensions are {1}w x {2}h in pixels and the maximum filesize is {3}.
The exact limits:
Can Link to External URLs: Yes
Maximum Number of Lines: 6
Maximum Font Size: 4
Signature Image(s) Maximum File Size (bytes): 25600
Signature Image(s) Maximum Width (pixels): 468
Signature Image(s) Maximum Height (pixels): 120
Maximum Number of Signature Images: 3
Forbidden vB Codes: quote

I know. But it does not work anyway.

OK. And which images did you try to include?

Salve!
An example:

The only thing I can think of is that your hack adds the heights of the images, too?
If that is the case, how can i change it?

Hmm, I set the same limits, tried the same image - works just fine for me.

Salve!
You have to place it in the same line for three times.
I calculated:
8.13 x 3 = 24.39 (kb)
90 x 3 = 270 (px width)
Stephan
Andreas

If they are all in the same line, yes.
But as the software can't determine how they will be displayed on the users browser, it has to take worst case into account: every image in a "new line".
That's 90 * 270, which is over the limit of 468 x 120.

I apologize for not reading every post in this thread but in order for this hack to take effect for all current sigs, do have to request all my users to update their sigs? That'd be my best guess and thanks in advance.
Thanks for the awesome hack! As someone else already said, this should be a standard option in vB.

I tried installing this plugin but would like to totally prevent certain usergroups from having signatures completely. It seems that if you turn on IMG tag support globally, every usergroup can upload. Does anyone know how to totally remove the ability to have IMG tags just for certain usergroups?

is there a possibility to force/motivate/advice my users to change their signature according to the new limitations with avoiding to remove all signatures by database update queries...?

just an idea,what about adding an option so we can force certain usergroups to have a certain image in their signature?

On that same note, I would ike to be able to put in a signature for all mods that they can't edit and always shows regardless if they have the option on to show their sig or not.

Q. How can I check all the current signatures of my forum and disable (clear) the ones that don't match with the limits specified?
