actually, it says SHOW PRIVATE FORUMS, and the dropdown menu should be set to NO.
but, the correct way to do it is: ACP/FORUMS & MODERATORS/FORUM PERMISSIONS and go thru and edit the permissions. if you just edit the category, the subforums will inherit the settings, so it saves you time.
to prevent GUESTS from viewing your threads, etc., edit the one that says 'unregistered/users not logged in' for whatever section you dont want them to see.

Right, it's Show Private Forums ... was a bit late already ;)
But Forumpermissions (Can View Thread Content) won't create the effect he want's:
Guests can still see Thread Titles then.
If he wants them to see the Forum but not the Threads (as this is how I understood him), it is necessary to set the Option to Yes - Display Posts Counts.

ic, so when you can see the thread titles, but not able to view the thread itself, does the 'hover' feature still work? can they still see the contents of the initial post when they hover over the title?
just wondering... to me, it makes no sense to let them see the thread title and not the thread itself, might as well not let them see anything at all.

It makes sense if you want members to see activity in the private forums to persuade them to join custom usergroups. :)
