All of us have seen forums with 2000 smilies. But what display order to put them in? Which ones get used most? It would be nice to have a hack that determines this automatically.

It would have to track the usage of each smilie. And then based on how often one is used, rank it higher than the rest. This way, you could put 12000 smilies in there if you wanted, but only the most frequently used ones would show up on the post reply page.

Comments? Questions? Post up.

It should be pretty easy to modify it to any version. The hard part is the methods and coding.

I'll look into this as a possiblity, one board I admin has too many smilies (IMO). However, it would be more useful and easier to code to have it be tracked on a per user basis - so it would show each user's favorite smilies.

If it's on a per-user basis, it will start out with the user hunting around like they do now. But over time, on a per user basis, it will actually be even more customized for the user, which is better from a user standpoint.
