I am starting a forum for a game i play for my guild. And i was wondering if i should go with stable 3.08 or go for 3.5 rc2. I would like to install some hacks so do the 3.0 hacks work in 3.5 or only 3.08. Thanks for your help.

It depends really.. ;)
Do you plan to upgrade regularly?
What type of modifications are you looking to install?
The majority of 3.0.x code mods will only work for the 3.0.x series.
vbulletin.org is currently running 3.0.x, but will be upgrading to 3.5.0 in the near future I believe.

3.5 would be the best way to go. Adding plug-ins and products will make future upgrades almost idiot-proof (and I ought to know). ;)

I agree with Boofo. :)
If you plan to upgrade regularly, dive straight in with 3.5.0 RC2.
The 3.5.x Shoutbox is better than the 3.0.x version (using AJAX instead of IFRAME).. WYSIWIG is featured in both 3.0.x and 3.5.0, though the editor functions have been updated somewhat in 3.5.0

personally I am not switching to 3.5 until they release the first update: 3.5.1 (or however they will number it).
I have gone through this with many other apps before, and though it may be tempting to use a RC or GM version there are still plenty of bugs in them, and most of the major bugs do not get fixed until at least the first update.

For a new forum, go with the new version. Plus it's much easier to upgrade with mods this time around, it'd be silly to go with 3.0x and then want to upgrade and lose all your mods.

ImpEx won't support 3.5.0 until the "gold" version, so if you're wanting to use vBulletin now you have no option but to import into 3.0.8 first I'm afraid.. It's no big deal.
