Maybe I'm not doing this right. I installed the .xml file via ACP and uploaded the red2black folder containing all the images (attach, avatars, etc.) to the forums root and it doesn't work. I then moved the red2black images folder to images in forum root (where all the other style image folders are uploaded to), and it still doesn't work. It displays as vBulletin default.
Running 3.5 RC2.
Thanks. :)
Anyone got this to work on 3.5.0 ?
Looks like a great style but all I can get to work are the images on default vbulletin !
the xml is not ok.. for 3.5

DOH?
I even installed on a seperate 3.5 test board. Maybe I switched something....let me check.
EDIT:
Sorry about that folks. I mucked something up with the XML in the original ZIP. ZIP have been updated with proper RC2 XML. I also added the XML for d/l for anyone who had gotten the original ZIP with the wrong RC2 XML.
It was 3AM when I put this together and probably forgot to change the XML download drop down from default to the new style when exporting it.
Sorry about that. :o

If you say so.
On both my test boards the ./images/ folder has nothing but default folders and images.
my red2black folder is in forum root like my ss's show. Dunno what to say.

Personally I leave the images folder alone for the default style. Less chance of the less knowledgeable people overwriting their default images IMO.

The code is the navbar template.
Look for:
<!-- Red2Black Banner Placement -->
<a href="http://chefhost.com" target="_blank"><img src="red2black/banners/red2black_banner.gif" width="468" height="60" border="0"></a>

Really not sure. The header and navbar templates are the only ones that have been really modified. All the rest of the changed templates like FORUMDISPLAY I only changed a few table classes from "thead" to "tcat".
Tomorrow I will compare the other templates to default and see if I made any additional unintentional edits on those.

In the header template...
Find:
<!-- nav buttons bar -->
Start there and delete everything under it.
Be sure to leave:
<!-- content table -->
$spacer_open
$_phpinclude_output
So it should end up like:
<!-- logo -->
<a name="top"></a>
<table border="0" width="$stylevar[outertablewidth]" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" align="center">
<tr>
<td align="$stylevar[left]" background="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/head_bg.gif"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a></td>

<!--

Yeah, I had adjusted it to 760 durning testing to make sure that it functioned and looked OK as a fixed style and must have just put it back to 95% instead of 100%. I had originally had a few hard coded widths in a couple templates so in the update I replaced them with the stylevar [outertablewidth] or whatever it is so that the end user could properly use that stylevar option.
Glad everything is working OK. :)

We do have a red2black version in our forum... I am just not sure if it is this one.
The problem with our current version is that it doesn't show avatars and quick reply at the end of threads... now I'm wondering if we should just update the templates or download that version?!

You should install this current one since some stylevars changed as well. Also, if you use this, please click install. If you had before you would have recieved the most recient update notice. ;)

Sounds like you are using an older version with old code. Please install this newest version. With this new version the only templates that have any major modifactions are the header and navbar. All other templates shown as being edited are simple class changes and should not effect board operation in any way.

I just ran through every page on my dev board and didn't come across any myself.I'm going to look into this. Uninstall it, reinstall it - maybe something else. The issue was that I didn't have this problem until I installed it, however, I still have similar problems so now I'm not sure if it is related or not and won't know until testing. I'm not going to say at this point that it is the style, not unless I fix the problem and reinstall the style and the problem comes back. :)
I like this skin - it has possibilities. :D

Nice skin...although some icons arent really made for a dark skin, so you see those white lines around them and the tree text is very grey, which makes it hard to read...which are both common "problems" with dark skins
But definatly the best free dark skin out there.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
There are a couple of templates in my style release that that should be updated if using on v3.5.1. Just check out the v3.5.1 Release Thread on vB.com and make the small adjustments.
The following templates in my R2B style are modded:
footer
FORUMDISPLAY
FORUMHOME
forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost
forumrules
header
memberlist
navbar
SHOWTHREAD
threadadmin_imod_menu_post
threadadmin_imod_menu_thread
Now almost all are just one or two CSS class changes but any mod will stop the template from being updated on an upgrade so if you are using v3.5.1 or have upgraded to it, check the v3.5.1 Realse Thread and make the required changes.

And with the nav bar alteration, forgive me for being a numpty but this is my first attempt at forums and html so I'm a bit slow lol but is it only the instances within the nav bar section that needed altering , I'm assuming I just change the bit within the < and > you quoted.

And with the nav bar alteration, forgive me for being a numpty but this is my first attempt at forums and html so I'm a bit slow lol but is it only the instances within the nav bar section that needed altering , I'm assuming I just change the bit within the < and > you quoted.
Great template and thank for doing it.
Can Anyone help me with this one, its my first attempt at adding a style and I could really do with a step by step walk through??
Couldn't find the v3.5.1 release thread mentioned earlier in this thread either :(
Oh, its a neat style for Ducati motorbike forums, remove the gradients and it gives it a proper Ducati feel.

There should be a PSD folder in the ZIP file that has all of the buttons and other images with effects and stuff in tact. There are also the fonts that I used in that PSD folder as well. Install the fonts in the PSD directory and open up button_large.psd

This may be somewhat out of scope, but I thought I'd ask.
I installed red2black and my users love it, but it doesn't look good with MKPortal.

I need to get the color scheme to look good on the portal pages, like it looks on the forum pages.
Where do I start with this? I've started a similar thread on the mkportal forums.

You will have to mess around with the CSS classes.
I am not familiar with that addon but you should try changing around the alt1, alt2, etc classes in some of the templates to try to get the desired effects.

RMS-Chef,
This is going to sound awful - however i'd like to be able to change the Red bars to blue - in this case is it a simple case of changing the hex's in the respective temlates on this, or is it a little more involved?? (before i go breaking it??!!)
Thanks for what is a lovely style!! :)

There are some color codes for the solid colors but you would also have to overwrite or change the couple gradient images as well.
The best thing to do would be to import the style again and name it something different and play around with it. That way you can mess around with it but not hurt the original working one.

I am no coder either, not even remotely.
What I would do is copy/paste the template code you are looking to alter into a WYSIWYG HTML editor. Then you should get a basic layout to look at and see where you might change a few things.

That what I use, yes. With DW you have to make sure you turn off a couple of the auto correct unclosed tags and such or it will FUBAR your templates.

Any plans for a 3.5.3 version?
To be honest, not really. I purposely did not check the "Supported" box on this because I recently started a new job and have several other projects currently ongoing. I do have a list of the templates that are NOT default. The style should work fine with v3.5.3 but you will have to make any updates manually to the small group of templates that are listed to be 100% compliant.

My site forums are installed in /forums, I have a gallery installed in /gallery and VBAdvanced CMPS in the root.
I've been using this style for a while now and I've very happy with it.
After sorting out the header replacements so that the links in the 'quick links' drop down work I have the following problem.
In the 'Quick Links' drop down the 'Buddy List' option only works if I'm currently viewing the forum.
If I'm viewing CMPS or Gallery I hust get a 404 error.
If I switch back to the default style it works fine.
Can anybody help with this?

Hi there,
How can I "erase" the white bar behind the logo?
Tnx!

03-03-2006, 06:52 AM
I've managed to fix my problem with the "Buddy List" in the quick links drop down.
It might be obvious to the hardened coders, but I'm a complete newbie so it might not be the best way to fix the problem.
If anybody else has the same problem this is what I did.
I noticed that the drop down calls misc.php, in either my Vbadvanced page or the Gallery page misc.php couldn't be found becuase it in /forum
Adding misc.php to the header replacement didn't work for this (it works for the restof the options in the drop down)
So I edited the header template, search for 'Buddy List', and modified the path there to /forum/misc.php
Job done.
Crest, the white bar behind the logo can be changed by editting one of the CSS options, sorry not sure which one. I know this because I have changed a lot of them to make a 'Red 2 Grey' style as some of my older members have trouble reading light text on black backgrounds. HTH

Hey All,
Had a question about this style that I've been wondering for a while and now my users are asking as well. Is there a way to have links underlined and if so, what would I need to do for them to be there?
Alot of my users, as well as me, love this style, but don't want to have to move their mouse all over the place to figure out what the links are.....
Thanks for any replies in advance,

I managed to find out where to add it on the 3.0.7 version but i am at a loss where to find it with this version. Normally i try and look for pointers ie the href for usercp and new posts etc but i cant find them atall
please help.
In the Style Manager, Click on Edit Templates, then Navigation / Breadcrumb Templates. Then click navbar. Place your code after the </td> for one of the main links ie: Member List

You have Alt 1 and Alt 2 bought if you change the link colors it also changes the link on the forums listings. So I mean how would I seperate it out so the changes only effect links in the threads?

I think you'll find what you are looking for in the Common Templates section on the Style Manager page for this style. Go to AdminCP, Styles and Templates, Style Manager. "Go" to the Red2Black style, and you'll see the Common Templates near the top. What you are looking for is in the Header template.
FYI, where the template refers to $stylevar[titleimage], this is the Title Image path defined further down the page, first entry in the Image Paths section.
Hope this helps,

That is simply saying that there are probably changes in the those two templates from when I altered them in v3.5.0 in the v3.5.4. I am not sure if they are just class changes and such or not, just don't remember. You can use the "History" feature to compare the current template altered by me to the v3.5.4 default and it will highlight the differences. If they are just class differences you are fine. I forget if there are any functional changes with the default template but if your board is operating fine, you should be fine. If you compare them and it looks like there are no changes required, you can simply save the current template and the message will go away. You can still compare it to the default at any time. If you click revert, it will change the template to the v3.5.4 default and may undo some stuff.

Sure, it would be best to go ahead and apply the other changes to the R2B template. You can always copy the current one to a text file (or "save in template history" with a name like "R2B Default") so that if you mess something up making the coding changes you can always put it back and try again.

I have installed this style on a vb3.5.4, and found out that i should not revert, but instead edit and save each template without changing them.
By doing this, i get rid of the warning messages in admincp.
The template must not be reverted after a fresh install of this style on vb 3.5.4.
If one reverts, the style will not function properly.
BTW: Thanks for a great style! I installed it, and am currently customizing it further for our car forum at http://www.wroom.org/evoclub/.
I also made up a set of smilies that works on both dark and light backgrounds.
I found out that there should be some kind of support for selection of smilie sets, or even dynamically generating smilie sets for different backgrounds, since it is impossible to get an image with shaded edge transparency to work on both dark and light backgrounds, like for the vb default smilie set.
Dynamically generating smilies and icons for choosen background color/brigthness in styles could for instance be done from .ai template images with ImageMagick.
(Should i patent it? :) )
I see lots of requests for smilies that works with this style, and if there is a genuine interest i can release my smilie set here at vbulletin.org.

It's probably been asked, but are there plans of officially releasing a 3.6 version of this skin?

Sorry, no plans at this time.
If someone wants to run through the template edits I would be happy to release it with full accreditation.

I'm a new transplant from phpbb2, and was wondering if you, or one of your many fans, would be interested in editing ths to work with 2.6.1. This style is awesome, and i'd love to use it with my forums....however not being proficient in coding, and since its my first day using VB, I am still finding my way

I imagine I would have the time and have a v3.6.x version ready within about two weeks. No promises but I will do my best.

Well, I got it to work for 3.6.1 on my forums. Other than a couple new buttons, it just requires adding a few javascript calls, from what I've gathered. Seems to work fine now.

We have been running this on our site for years and our users love it. I was hoping to carry it over to vb 4.0 but it looks like it hasn't been worked on in a while and our site owner has said he didn't think it was going to be made for 4.0. I just wanted to get a plug in here for a 4.0 version just in case. If it comes out, we'd love to have it. If not, maybe I'll have to try and figure out how to do it myself. ;)

I apologize but I don't have the time for working on this.
To be honest I doubt I will even upgrade to 4.x for quite some time.
Feel free to do with it as you please though.
