nice idea
tackle the problem at the user level instead of creating usergroups for this group and that group

So does this mean you can set it so certain users cannot use sigs etc?
yeah, like if u have a problem user or whatever reason

Andreas

@Roxie
Yes

@Jenta
Well, Usergroups are another way to achieve this.
'However, it can be a Bit problematic when you want to disable X, Y and Z ...

Could somebody enlighten me as to what "batting" does mean?

In baseball, batting is the act of facing the opposing pitcher and trying to produce offense for one's team. A batter or hitter is a person whose turn it is to face the pitcher. The goals of batters are to produce runs, but the techniques and strategies they use to do so vary. The main three goals of batters are to become a baserunner, drive runners home, or advance runners along the bases for others to drive home.

Batting 1000% means a person hits every ball pitched. I was refering to you making plugs and hacks for vb3.5

Will this interfere with something like the Signatures per forum mod or the Avatars per forum mod? And which would override which? ;)

Andreas
08-13-2005, 09:19 AM
It Overwrites the Users Permissions.

I don't have Options to enable/disable Avatars/signatures per Forum?

Any plans to add a postbit-side feature? ;)

There was a hack for vB2 and possibly vB3 that allowed Admins & Mods to edit signatures & avatars from the postbit, by clicking the link and having a popup window displayed - Simply being able to disable them (via an AJAX click cos me likes teh AJAX) would be teh coolies :D

is there anyway to make this lock the avatar to one the admin chooses ?

i know it will keep them from using a custom one, but i would like them to have to keep the one we/i give em, on a per user basis.

Andreas
01-16-2006, 04:28 PM
Set their Avatar, then set it to locked - thne they should not be able to use another custom one.
However, I think they can use standard avatars.

da prez

could it be changed so they couldn't pick any avatar ?

or maybe just get an error message when they try ?

Great hack Andreas! I tried to use the Admin Force Ignore, but the person is still able to see "This message is hidden because User Name is on your ignore list." message, and is able to view the post by clicking on the View Post link. Is there a way to hide this completely, like Tachy Goes To Coventry option, including the last post column and the ignore list in the user cp? Thanks :)

Andreas
01-18-2006, 01:03 PM
This is the way individual ignore does work, don't think it is possible to do it like tachy - as tachy requires counter updates, which can't be done as it wouldn't be a system wide tachy.
But you might be able to just modify the postbit_ignore template.

bairy
09-19-2006, 03:36 PM
You can turn invisible mode on/off in a member's user options though of course they can put it back. Or you can enable/disable per usergroup.
Unless you mean is there a way to stop them going invisible on a user-by-user basis.

Kirby, a suggestion for future versions.... It would be nice to be able to prohibit a user from turning OFF their PM function. The admins on our site use PMs to notify members of infractions, etc. and we have a couple of users who have turned off their PM function. We'd like the ability to force the PM function on, on a user by user basis.

We're using 3.7.0, and every time we try to save a name in the Forced Ignore portion it will not save it. No error message or anything...it's just not there when we go back to that user (and the names added to the ignore list are not blocked). All other changes using this hack are saved when we toggle them.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Andreas, this is just what I was looking for. Thanks for your time.

I used the Admin Enforced Ignore and few problematic users are now on the ignore lists of each other.

In regards to "This message is hidden because User Name is on your ignore list." message, I hid the postbit_ignore template from users with a conditional so only admin can see that template.

What I would like to ask, is if there is a way to also disable the checkbox for the specific users on User's CP? This is because they could go to their CP and remove each other from their Ignore List.

Please see this screenshot.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/3303/ignorero6.jpg

In User Editor from vB Admin Panel, it says:

Admin Enforced Ignore
Here you can put Userids (spearated by space) that this User should ignore; he will not be able to unignore them

But as you see from the picture its still there. I am still on vB 3.6.7

Thanks

Andreas
09-27-2008, 04:06 PM
This is because they could go to their CP and remove each other from their Ignore List.
They can't. Well yes, they could remove the checkbox and save the list - but when they refresh the page the checkbox is there again.
This is working as designed: The users are not really permanently added to the other users ignorelist - in fact the admin set ignoreliste is added to the users ignorelist at runtime, no matter who they may or may not have on their list.

Thank you!!! working in 3.6.x. Perfect solution to force users to ignore each other.

I just need it to make the forced ignore so that they don't have an option to "view post" and...

Maybe I'll just blank out the postbit_ignore template, they shouldn't be able to see anything then... of course neither would my regular users.

:dunno:

Would it be possible to make it so it adds them to the global ignore?

The forced ignore functionality of this mod appears to work as intended - at least with my limited testing on 4.2.

As well on 4.1.x versions. I still edited the postbit so they couldn't get around it with the "view post" button. So, they have to ignore each other and without logging out (or if somebody quotes them) they'll be unable to read their posts.
