I am completely new to vB and actually have not purchased it as of yet... I am curious how the mods and add-ons are installed. Is it the old text editor search and replace method or is there some cool tool vB has deployed to ease installation?

Lol it depends how the hacker made his installation file. Sometimes all it requires is running an install script and then editing a few files.

Also, FYI
This is the wrong forum to post this in. This should be in "Pre-Sales Questions".

JimLink,

The short answer to your question is : both. But for more details on installation of mods, you will need to have a license.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your interest in vBulletin. Jelsoft is right now beta public testing the new version 3.5 of vBulletin. One of the big changes is the way hacks are managed. Where in vBulletin most hacks had to be done by editing the original source code, version 3.5 provides ways to Manage Hacks by simply uploading an xml-file, or change some settings in your AdminCP.

If the hacks you are planning to use will be using only xml-files will depend on the author and the kind of hack he is making. It is not possible to make all hacks work only by using xml-files.

Hope that this answers your question, and we are looking forward in seeing you as a new member to our community.
