I got promission for anyone to upgrade vBookie to 3.5
Here is a copy of the PM I had with Rico (the author)..
Hey Rico. I am in the process of setting up my sports community. I am styling it for 3.5 and getting some other mods for it but the one I need most importantly is yours. Is there a chance you will be upgrading it to 3.5 or you would give someone promission to upgrade it.
Thanks for your time
My 1 year's maintenance expired in March, so I don't think I can download 3.5 to make it work I'm afraid. Feel free to find someone that's able to do the changes, although I'd prefer my original copyright notice to remain, even if someone adds an additional "updated to 3.5 by" one as well.

Wow awesome stuff Kirby. ;) Get this converted to 3.5 and we'll be moving our two flagship sites over to 3.5 in a matter weeks rather than the months it'll take me to look at the code. :p

New idea for a mod,
vPrison > Let's you assign members to a jail kind of thing for a specific time when they become cheeky or rowdy (Actually, that would be good....*thinking*)
They could have visitors, and what not........
Ok, i'll get my coat!

Update
The basics (posting/updating event, placing bets, payout) seem to work, although there are some flaws.
Furthermore, some Templates need to be reworked.
If everything goes well, this should reach a point where we could do some closed beta-testing tomorrow.
But for now I have to get some sleep first ;)

If you are updating the vbookie.php script I will recommend a few changes:
1. Make sure the odds are determined/queried and set from the database and not client-end sent form variables as is the case at present by default. The odds are easily forged by default and makes cheating the easiest thing in the world.
2. Place a restriction on the frequency a user can place bets. At least no more than one bet every 5-10 seconds. If you don't, we've found it's possible to hammer the server in quick succession with bets and users to acquire an insane amount of money through a bug of some kind. I've seen this replicated on a number of vbookie installations. Since we placed a small restriction on frequency of bets, no user has earned a crazy amount of money on our sites.

Check your PMs. :) I have a little ol' 3.5 testbed that's collecting dust. Bit the bullet and went active with 3.5, so there's no reason for anyone to play on the testbed right now. This'll bring 'em back. :)

Issue 1) has been removed.
Don't know yet how 2) could happen, but i'll take a look.
Everybody interested in Beta-testing (well ... I should better call it pre-alpha ;)), please contact me via PM.

We spent weeks looking at issue number 2 and could never resolve it. All we know is when the script was used AS IS with no time restriction on bets, at least one user a week (on different sites with different mysql versions) would see their vCash balance hit millions of virtual dollars by double clicking when placing a bet. Since we implemented a solution to prevent users from betting every second, it's never happened since.... and this restriction has been enforced for months.
I'll be glad to help beta test once our development site is up to 3.5. I'm currently testing our 3.0.8 upgrades due to go live this weekend.

This is currently being in Alpha-/Betatest phase.
If you are interested in helping to test, cpontact me via PM; you don't need to install it yourself as I got a Testbed up that is being used.

As nobody is actually testing this (although quite a few people got access to the Alpha-Version), I recon that nobody is interested and will stop working on vBookie for vBulletin 3.5.

I'm just finishing off our upgrade to 3.0.8. I promise I will help you test this extensively and help find every possible bug from next week. Don't give up, this is a very good and popular hack with loads of communities :)

Is this still in the works, Kirby?
Was ecstatic to see that you were working on it, but found this thread late as it wasn't linked in the 3.0.x version's. Sent a PM offering to help or test in any way. This is definitely one of my "must-have" hacks before moving my site to 3.5.0. So thanks a ton for your efforts.
With that, if someone helps sv1cec with his Advanced Warning System (AWS) (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=91707&page=2&pp=15), I'll be good to go! :) Can't wait to upgrade everything.
Been testing and can see no problems .. time to release to the masses KirbyDE !?

whatever I can do for incentive to keep this going...I'm happy to do. :D
