May I suggest to use Product Management instead of a custom Installer?
This would make it a lot easier, for you and the Users.
And it would be more "standards compliant" ;)

Product Manager is a built-in feature of vBulletin 3.5 RC1.
If this was intended for me, I think we are posting at cross purposes. I understood from your first post that this hack had it's own installer rather than using the built Product manager.

Loneranger,
Not sure if your aware or not, but your zip file contains admincp\template.php from vBulletin - you should probably remove this from the download :)

well, the idea was great and all but I tried to install it twice, both failing. Now I can't even completely uninstall with the script (after installing, still getting database errors because of things that have been left behind). This is just too much frustration for me.

Clearly this still has some bugs in it.
But I would add two key points which some users seem to be missing.
1. Don't run beta mods on live boards. Even if they are not beta, install them on a test board first, then if anything breaks and you can't fix it then no harm done.
2. ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DATABASE. So no matter what happens you can just restore the old one.

I agree, that it is very frustrating. But then, I suppose that is the problem with betas. I doubt any coder would release something they knew didn't work. It must have worked in some form or else he would not have released it.
Me thinks a beta release subforum for each area is required. *theArchitect calls an Admin for their thoughts on this idea*

Ok, also... You may want to add a file naming process... Currently if 2 different users upload a file called mypic.jpg, it seems that the script keeps the same filename, and the first uploaded will be overwritten if I'm not mistaken?
Anyhow, just another observation. Looking good so far. Can't wait for watermarking and possibly other nifty features.
EDIT: Sorry, it does check the filename already, and my post after this one would take care of any duplication problems with the gallery, that may allow people to use other people's images in their posts.
My biggest concern with this is that User 1 uploads a file called 'mypic.jpg", and User 2 also has a mypic.jpg that is different... User 2 will need to rename their file before uploading which is one step that can be automated by implementing a pic gallery and a function for renaming the files that are uploaded.
ThePimp
07-31-2005, 05:10 PM
Oh, also, it would be kinda nifty to have a gallery script work in conjunction with this, where it just displayed a vb style thumbnail gallery of all of the uploaded images, where when clicked on, the thumb links to the fullsized image on a vb template page.
Just a thought.
loneranger
07-31-2005, 06:33 PM
thanks for your ideas pimp i will work on the renaming function as well, the gallery script should be easy to get working hopefully will be running soon

Well thank you for registering on my board, but that wouldn't do anything. My live board is running 3.0.7. I have installed the Image Hosting hack onto my Test Board, which is running 3.5.0 RC1. As per Jelsoft's requirements regarding Test Boards; they cannot be publicly accessible. I have attached screenshots to explain my situation better. Basically (for those who still have yet to understand) whenever I try to upload an image, I receive an error message stating that the image attempting to be uploaded is too large. Even though I have set the file size in the Usergroup Permissions.

I believe you are setting your size to low. As far as I can tell, it's asking for BYTES, not KB in the admincp. Try increasing the size to something like 5000000 for testing purposes.

My server is down at the moment... I'll test this when it comes back up. But even still, did you see how even though I have entered a value into the Size Limit field in the Usergroup Perms, it still shows the Size Limit to be 0 on the Uploader Form.

I think I can see the mistake here... Your dimension limits are set to Width: 768 and Height: 1024. This is normally wrong. In a game, for example, you would be running at Width: 1024 and Height: 768.
Change these two values around and see how it works then. Also try doing it with a smaller picture, for example the "newthread.gif" from your images folder on the forums.
Kirk Y
08-02-2005, 08:21 PM
What would it matter if the size values were reversed? It'd just simply change the dimensions of the maximum allowed for an upload. The picture I've been attempting to upload is 300x300 in size. I do not believe the error has to do with height/width variables... the actual file size restrictions are what's causing the problem. As my server is still down... I am unable to test neither loneranger nor your suggestions.

Aha, wasn't entirely sure what size it was you were uploading. Thought it might have been a 1024 x 768 picture, in which case with those dimensions it obviously wouldn't work :)
Hope you get it sorted. It's now on my forums at http://www.sinepisodes.net

It seems fairly comperhensive for what it is.
Though I do have a question about where the images are kept. In the AdminCP I have the option of moveing all images from the DB to the file system. Does this option manage this hack too? If so, can users (of moderators) still delete the images if they have been move to the file system. Or would I have to go in via FTP and do it?

Works perfectly for me
So if I or others don't have the luck where it works perfectly the only way for me or others is to give up .....
A friend of mine used to code hacks for other forums. He did test it ALWAYS on a clean downloaded board from the official website, installed his hack according to his own manual or asked other to install by the manual and ONLY when he got positiv results from himself or some others, he posted it as official hack ...
I appreciate ppl coding for free and provide them to the community, but still, it musn't happen that files are missing or things like that or CLEAN installation simply not working. It is way too frustrating ... This shows me that coder did not check the actually download or posted things in a rush ..

Martin, if you go to http://www.sinepisodes.net/forums/img_view_all.php to view all the images, it says I have uploaded one.
If you then click my user name though, I get a 404 error message:
The requested URL /forums/test.php was not found on this server.Is there a file missing or have you left it named incorectly in the img_view_all.php file?
loneranger
08-16-2005, 06:57 PM
yes this fault has now been removed in the latest release it's just a template error think it imghost_userbits the link in there should view img_view_all.php and not test.php or you can just re-download this and overwrite the old one
Chris_D
08-16-2005, 07:43 PM
That fixed it loneranger, thanks :)
Think I might have identified another bug though.
Again, if you go to www.sinepisodes.net and look at the Statistics and the Image Host stats, it says the last uploader was a member called Samon. However if you click on his name it takes you to user ID 1 -- which is me. I've logged in on my test account which is a standard user and it does the same there.
Strangely, if you're not logged in at all then the link will always take you to user ID 0...
EDIT: Strangely, I just left the forum and came back to it and now the link is poiting to user ID 23, which is someone else completely.

Still getting errors....
I installed this after a few tries just by following the thread. However, I set my administrator usergroup to be able to upload 1 MB files up to 1600 X 1200 (equal to what I have in the vBulletin Attachment manager). When I go to upload a file it says "Max Filesize: 0 KB" then trying to upload any file it says File too big, even though I have tried many different file sizes. Same pictures upload fine within the vBulletin Attachment Manager.
Would be nice as well to have upgraded installation documentation that tells you about the options that need to be set. It should also be noted that I am using RC2 of vBulletin 3.5.0 but it shouldn't matter, the hack should work fine.

loneranger, I have reinstalled the whole thing now and it's still doing the same.
I've noticed something that might help though.
The link contains the user ID of anyone that's online. For example if I'm the only member online the "Newest Hosted Image: Alyx by Samon" link will be to my user ID (1). At the moment another member is online whose user ID is 38. Samon's user ID is 7. The link is currently pointing to any pics user ID 38 has (none). If Samon is online, then the link is correct.
It uploads just fine, pictures upload like they should, no problems there but when I go to img_view_all.php and click on my name, I get this:

Ok, I've fixed my issue the issue I had.
If anyone else gets the issue wherein the hack is working fine, however in the forum statistics section at the bottom, where it shows the last person to have uploaded an image, if their user ID is showing wrong then do the following:
In the INSTALL.txt file you'll find this information:step 4 FORUM_HOME templates changes
find;
<div>
$vbphrase[threads]: $totalthreads,
$vbphrase[posts]: $totalposts,
$vbphrase[members]: $numbermembers<if condition="$show['activemembers']">,
<span title="<phrase 1="$vboptions[activememberdays]">$vbphrase[within_the_last_x_days]</phrase>">$vbphrase[active_members]: $activemembers,</span>
</if>
below it add
, Users Hosting Images: $total_users,
Total images Hosted: $total_images,
Newest Hosted Image: $image_name by <a href=img_view_all.php?do=imgs&id=$userid>$username</a>Where it says "do=imgs&id=$userid>$username</a>", change this to "do=imgs&id=$rows[1]".
Next, go to Plugin System > Plugin Manager > Edit Image Hosting 2.1 > Find "$userid=$rows[0];" and change it to "$userid=$rows[1];".
It should now start working.
This is basically what loneranger said above.
Chris_D
08-22-2005, 09:16 PM
loneranger -- it looks like you might have to release a new version if you're going to fix any genuine bugs people might have. If you do, would you also be able to introduce a thumbnailing system? So it'd use GD to crop/rezise the uploaded pictures to a much smaller size so it doesn't distort the img_view_all.php page and also might be generally convenient for people that are linking the images on other forums.

AS nothing is happening on this, I have uninstalled it. I gave my error above and explained it best I could. If asked, I would have given you temporary access to look at my installation to see what was wrong from a developer's point of view but nothing went of it. Hopefully you get it working in the future after a little more testing on your end with various php and vbulletin installations.
There are lots of errors, including direct error listings, in this thread. Might look at some of them before you get upset at people uninstalling it.

It should also be noted that I am using RC2 of vBulletin 3.5.0 but it shouldn't matter, the hack should work fine.
sorry i missed your post did you set this in vbulleti8n attachement manager or in the usergroup premissions under image hosting settings? i have had a fresh install and haven't got that error, also have you downloaded the code recently as i changed it and create a more in depth installation guide. i am sorry ppl are uninstalling it but i have tested it on my linux system with a fresh install without getting any errors. maybe wayne if you could give me admin premission i could have a look it would be very kind or if you are not intrested anymore don't worry.

I have already uninstalled this and have a working solution with vBA Gallery that my users are satisfied with.
To answer your question though, I set the allowances and permissions within the Image Hosting settings.

He may not have directly responded to you, but he DID release a new version which, to his knowledge, fixed all the bugs, and also incorporated your request to improve the documentation with it.
Would it have been too civil of you to have just said "I'm sorry, your new update still hasn't worked"?? You haven't even indicated whether you bothered to download the new version...

Actually, yes, I had the most up to date version. There have been no changes in the image_host.php file which is where you try to upload images and where it fails to do so on my previous installation. I had no problems installing the plugin where changes were made in the updated version.
The interesting this is that the post says "Final" and the zip file includes RC1.
To satify your curiosity even further, I reinstalled the plug and reuploaded the files. Set the variables for the administration usergroup how I want them and it still will not allow me to upload even a 43 byte image (smallest I could find).
I have attached images below.

I must admit that I prefer the idea of keeping everything on the one server. Especially as most other image hosting options I have seen require the use of a "free" account. It is not meant as a slight on the companies concerned, but I have found that free resources (especially those which require storage space and bandwidth) have a nasty habit of vanashing and taking all of your valuable data with them. I would much rather be in full control of the situation and this modification allows that (once I get around to installing it).

I think it is going down the list of all the Usergroups and taking the last one (maybe). All I know is that in order for it to work, you have to set the permission on all the groups.
I had to set the permission on all three usergroups i belong to inorder to have the right access.
Also:
sorry if this was posted already but your 'imghost_userbits ' template should be:
<tr>
<td class="alt1"><a href=img_view_all.php?do=imgs&id=$rows[userid]>$username</a></td>
<td class="alt2">$img_count</td>
</tr>
not
<tr>
<td class="alt1"><a href=test.php?do=imgs&id=$rows[userid]>$username</a></td>

i have found the error with filesize reading 0 it is due to vbulletin see 0 as unlimited larger than any number so when it reads the premissions for filesize it will always find 0 higher so you will need to see every usergroup to any number above 0 to stop this error i will try and this set as default when install and re upload the file.

I'm using gold and it does not work. everything installs okay but I get a blank screen when I try any of the image upload/viewing/ editing features.
Additionally if you uninstall it afterwards it will give you dB errors and your usergroups are messed up. It would require a manual dB cleanup to fix.

Well assigning you such permissions is not possible for me, my forum is on a private network for engineering prototyping R&D.
Is there any way I could give you logs or something to help you figure out the problem? because I really would like to resolve it. At the very least uninstall the tables that are causing dB errors whenever I try to change or alter my usergroup settings.

Well I guess all I ask at this stage is for some sort of guide to sucessfully remove the MOD manually. I have tried the uninstall feature but it leaves errors afterwards so I guess there is reminaing data in the dB tables.
Perhaps you could give a walkthrough on how to manually remove the entire hack?

I have this MOD working on my testvb site (3.5.0 gold), and its working great, except when you are in the "Upload Image" section. You try clicking on the "Image Hosting" link on your menu, and are in the "Upload an Image" section, clicking on the "Image Hosting" menu option doesn't do anything. So if you want to change to another option (say "View My Images") you must return to the index page to be able to click on the "Image Hosting" link and select the "View My Images" link.
It's almost like the dropdown menu feature is disabled when you are in the "Upload an Image" section. I'm the only one to bring this up, so it might be an error somewhere on my part? But it seems like the install was straight-forward enough that I didn't screw anything up. With this exception, this MOD is working great for me on a 3.5.0 gold.
The first time I installed this MOD was on 3.5.0 gold, so I don't know if this helps you at all loneranger. It was/is a fresh install of 3.5.0 (no previous beta versions or 3.0.X's.)
Anyway, hopefully somebody can check this and verify it's just my site doing this, or if it is some sort of a bug. Regardless it's great to have this feature! Thanks!!

Firstoff, I was having a problem with uploading files with capitol letter extensions (eg. .JPG .GIF .PNG). I was able to figure out how to "fix" that by editing this line in:
image_host.php
line 49:
change:
$ext=array(".gif",".jpg",".png",".bmp");
to:
$ext=array(".gif",".jpg",".png",".bmp",".JPG",".GIF",".PNG");
Now, I'm still having a problem with the drop-down menu under "Upload An Image". Before, I mentioned that the "Image Hosting" dropdown menu does not drop down like it should. Well I just discovered that while in the "Upload An Image" page, *NONE* of the dropdown menus work (the "Search" and "Quick Links"). I've tried reading the template files, and nothing jumps out at me. These menus all work like they are supposed to everywhere else! Any ideas?
Finally, members are having a problem with getting a "white screen" when they click on the "Upload An Image" option in the dropdown menu. For the life of me, I cannot replicate this. I've used old accounts, I've created new accounts, I've "hijacked" a users account that had problems, and every time, it's worked fine for me......But it's obviously a problem because I've had multiple users complain about it. I see others have reported this blank screen issue, and I'm hoping maybe somebody has an answer????
Anyway, I'm hoping there's some workarounds or fixes somebody might be willing to share.
Thanks

Here's what's strange to me. When I'm at home, I can upload just fine. When I go to my G/F's house, and try to upload using her computer on the same account (my admin account) it doesn't work.
At home, I use Windows XP (with all updates) with IE 6 SP2
On hers, I use Windows 2000 (with all updates) with the newest IE as well.
At home, I'm stuck with dialup. She has cable (Comcast). I doubt that makes a difference, but I'm bringing it up as well.
I have disabled all popup blockers/spyware/adaware/firewall (temp) on her computer, cleared the cache, and it still doesn't work on her machine.......... Yet on my home PC/Notebook, she works like a champ (minus the minor quirks I brought up in an earlier post)

How do you completely uninstall this?
I have Uninstalled the product, however it leaves some fields in the UserGroup Manager that cause an error if I try to update the group now.
See Attachment
I'd love to use this but from what people are saying, it looks like there are still a lot of problems with it? Can anyone confirm if it is working correctly on 3.5.1 or not?

cool hack, I hope you can keep working on it or that someone will continue it.
had a bug that after I saved a usergroup setting at 0 for filesize that I couldn't change it after that. No matter what I set it at later the upload page would still show 0.

See AttachmentI just installed and uninstalled with no problems that I can tell right now. I check the usergroups and that section was gone. the board automatically rebuilt the bitfields for me after the uninstall so if that didn't happen maybe you just need to do it manually?
Seems like a lot of people are uninstalling. Is there a better option out there that you are switching to?

I was able to get this working just fine.
One thing not mentioned in the installation instructions is updating the "Image Hosting" vB Settings. He talked about the usergroup permissions, but not the vB Settings.
You need to point to the phyiscal drive on your host's server.

You need to be sure that each of your user groups has their filesize set to > 0.

I'm still having a problem getting past the 0KB file size problem that others have mentioned. I've gone in through phpMyAdmin and have put everyone's file size to higher than 0, but alas it still doesn't work. It still says 0KB. Any other ideas?

i installed it and it's working almost perfect except for 1 last thing which probably everyone has the same problem with...
When you set permissions to 'yes' to moderate in usergroup, then you can delete the uploaded images, however if you set to 'no' to moderation, then when you try to delete, it will bring up a 'white blank' screen... obviously, this problem needs attention... (i think it's a problem in the root .PHP files) please check into it and let us know how to fix this error...

Weirdly enough, all of the sudden it started working. I haven't changed one thing since then, so I'm not sure why it's working all of the sudden. :nervous: Now I'm getting some error messages, but I'll read through this thread as i'm sure it was mentioned before.
