So... I just noticed vb.org has this forum, I thought I'd go out on a limb and see what people here thought.
Coding wise, the portal's running vbadvanced, it's not bad but it doesn't have regular contributors so tends to stagnate.
I have some rather nifty search links in my media central (http://www.wordforge.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14) forum, a hackette you can get here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=92930)
The colour scheme is so-so, I really must buy myself a professionally done skin... that's still to do.
And anyhow, the board is an all-purpose discussion board with a rather tight knit community which likes nothing better than to argue with one another. I'd appreciate any tips people could give to help me attract new members :)

PORTAL:
I hate portals. Yours especialy.
Almost all of it neds to go. The marquee text needs to go. the "Welcome to Wordforge!, bla bla bla"... That whole box needs to go.
And why do use https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ for your collapsable image when they do not lead to the Top of the page?
Speaking of which, I like your logo. But what I found rather interesting was the today's article: "James Doohan, RIP."
LAUGH. OUT. LOUD.
It SHOULD say wordforge.net RIP.
Knowing using a skin that a popular site uses, in my book, is a forum of rip. That said, it's a decent skin and you can only take credit on your template customizations, which are... To put it lighty: Poor.
Let's go into the forums now, shall we?
Oh God, I don't even know where to start.
Put your Welcome to Wordforge!and your Random Quotes box in 1 table.
Cell rollover ON color is too dark. should be a 2 shades lighter than the OFF color. Mmmmm.... You win a point for the custom forum icons. But then you lose it because they are not consistant.
Your forum dex. is ugly. try again.
Your thread view doesn't look bad, only your tables are out of sync. (FireFox)
Game Over.

Fair enough. Many of my users hate it too, but no one offers help, and even my staff have stopped adding portal items!

The marquee text is RSS you realise? The welcome to wordforge bit is only seen by logged out users/guests, it's meant to be annoying like that :D
And why do use http://www.wordforge.net/forum/images/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif for your collapsable image when they do not lead to the Top of the page?
Not sure, that was put in place by previous site owner, never felt the need to change it, nor have I found it at all annoying that it doesn't go to the top of the page. No user has ever mentioned this.
Speaking of which, I like your logo.
:D I didn't design it personally ;)

As I mentioned, reason to get custom skin.

No. Welcome message is to annoy guests to encourage them to register.
Cell rollover ON color is too dark. should be a 2 shades lighter than the OFF color.
Nah
Mmmmm.... You win a point for the custom forum icons. But then you lose it because they are not consistant.
That criticism has come up before, but no one has offered any better alternatives. I personally like them like that. Since I still can't get my conditional code working (DAMMIT!) each skin has a 'forum iconless' version that doesn't have these icons for the few complaining users.
Your forum dex. is ugly. try again.
dex?
Your thread view doesn't look bad, only your tables are out of sync. (FireFox)
Could you be more specific? (I also use firefox)
Game Over.

As I have a special ability to see websites with the eyes of a guest.
Don't challenge it- absorb it. You'll never get a better critique.

You really think I should get rid of the guest welcome? I thought that was the best part of the portal...

Brinnie, please get back to my points.

Don't like the scheme to be honest. The red and the grey... doesn't "match" to me.
I like your custom icons, but I think you could benefit from splitting the forumhome table. It's a whole table that stretches the whole page basically, it'd look much more organised if it had category sepearation or if you at least seperated the guest welcome from the forum list table.

No, you shouldn't. It indicates the concept of the forum which is what a good forum does. Brinnie is just trying to degenerate every part of your forum as much as possible, without looking at the decent points of them.

I'm not trying to do anything. I gave an honest review.

Then enlighten us into why the guest table is completly useless to his/her forum, rather than just saying it is? :)

Fair enough. There are few nice and very different alternatives :)

I might give that a go right now..

Well, i like the simple theme in most aspects, the portal should stay. It is used to bring the latest events and happenings of the forums (Calendar, Posts, New Polls, etc) to one centralised area, makes everything alot easier in some aspects. But, alot of people do not like them, take a vote with your members, take it down if yes outvotes no.
Then, the colors do not match at all, I really dont like how there is red cats, blue navbits, red/black header, and green buttons. Pick 1-2 good color varients and stick to them, makes everything look ALOT more professional. I can suggest red and black (with white for the pg element). :)
Other than that, it looks like it is coming along well. :)
