THE 56k

[Brinnie]

This style is optimised for 56k users and is entirely greyscale.

With exception of post icons, the style contains no 'colour' whatsoever.

It runs around 30-40% faster than the default skin (maybe more) and it doesn't look like s+++.

AND it comes fully loaded with power windows and anti-lock breaks.

1. Import the XML
2. Upload the folder named "56k" to forums/images

And to show you how I roll, you can remove the skin copyright. =)

If theres a demo, it would be great. We could test the speeds, although as has been mentioned, I'm not sure if the speed would be any different. All images seem present.

You do decrease image size slightly without color, but I wouldnt have thought it would make a noticable difference.

Actually it is well known that the graphics that ship with vBulletin are not at all optimized. Save the originals from the PSD and optimize them and see the difference in size. Grayscale is a 256 color palette so unless you reduce the palette, the optimized image should be the same size a full-color optimized gif which is also a 256 color palette.

oh well, i think it's good. i wouldnt use it because i think everyone needs to make a jump to broadband because 56k is like 14.4k when 56k came out :)

1) I have pwnd off many images that I have deemed "unnecisarry", such as the post keys.
2) Don't users have the choice to use WYSIWYG? Even before I was an admin I knew how to shut that off/on in my controls.
3) I wouldn't download this skin until my next update. (soon)

You need to remove the thumbs.db files from the archive. It'll cutdown the size of it. They're only for showing thumbs in windows explorer.

This really shouldn't be called a "56k" style. Seeing as the images are greyscaled and that is the only change, it is just a normal style. (It's nice, but not any better for 56k'ers than the default style.)

A real 56k style would replace most of the statusicons and buttons with text, elminate the gradients and use just color, and use the stylesheet to define styles as much as possible (dont use the style attribute).

I really like this skin (ok so it doesn't take any real skill to make bfoot, so what?) but you definitely need to leave at least the online/offline icons in colour. At the moment online/offline show up with identical icons, not much use!
