This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you enter line breaks in the message? I tried <br /> but that doesn't translate.
Much appreciated.
Or try <p>

yes, I imported the xml as a PRODUCT.

yes, I imported the xml as a PRODUCT.
Well, that's the problem then :)
It's just that: A language pack, not a complete product.

Hi Andreas !
One thing concerning your nice hack: I have activated the e-mail verification for new users. When a user register, and confirm his registration via the link in the mail, he gets the welcome PM. Everything fine.
But.. If a registred user changes his e-mail adress, the same process is started. He gets an email, and must confirm his new mail-address. He is doing this and: Yes, he gets again the welcome PM, though it is an "old" member, that only changed his mail-address.
Is there maybe a way, you can recognize, if it is an acacount-activation from a new registration or from an e-mail change ?
It would be nice, if the PM is only send to really new users.
Best regards
Jörg
Andreas
11-15-2005, 11:05 PM
This should not happen - except if he hasn't made any posts.
JoergZ
11-15-2005, 11:22 PM
Yes, sorry, you are right.
The board is not active yet, and I tested it only with my testuser, who had no postings.
BR
Jörg
Andreas
11-15-2005, 11:37 PM
Well, if the user has no postings there is not much criteria that could be used to determine if it is th first activation or one due to an eMail change.
Besides that, vBulletin itself uses the same criteria to decide if a welcome eMail should be sent or not.

It,s in your AdminCP >> vBulletin Options >> User Registration Options
All the way down to the bottom you will see the following:
Automatic Welcome PM UserID
Enter the User ID of the User you would like to appear as sender of the Welcome PM.
To edit the PM Content, click here, to edit the Subject click here.
In the two click here, you are able to edit the PM Content and the Subject.
Hope this helps.

You click on the button on the left of the 2nd box that says "Copy Default Text". It's just under: English (US) Translation (Optional)
This will copy the original text that is above so you can change it. Once done, click Save, and it will save the English version for you...you're done.

Short question:
I'm a german user and I've installed this mod. I like it, because I used it in version 3.0 too.
So my question is: If I import the product: Is then automaticly the english language installed (without import a language-file)?

Message Title and Body are Phrases (Varname welcomepm in Phrasegroups EMail Subject Text and eMail Body Text), so you can have Messages in different languages.
You can also specify which User should appear as Sender in vBulletin Options / User Registration Options).ok... here's a question from a real newbie!

Thanks for this nice hack Andreas and I know your time is very spare but only one question.
If somebody is registering on my site he can choose between 3 different Groups and because I use amykhars hack "Add User to Secondary Usergroup Based on the Value of a Custom Profile Field at Reg." it would be very nice if there would be an option to send different pm to each user based of the choosen usergroup.
But knowing you have a lot of work, it's only an idea.

Mmm ok this is baffling.
We recently did a fresh install of Vbulletin 3.5.3 and then started to add our hacks. However although we managed to get the Welcome PM hack working happily on Vbulletun 3.5.2 on another of our sites its now refusing to send out to any PMS in 3.5.3.
We have the userid to send the pms set to 1 (and i've double checked it). I've updated the phrase (same as the one we used before) and we go through the entire registration process (not adding to the user control panel) with either email validation on or off. Groups are able to recieve PM's in either registered or awaiting email verification groups.
Vbulletin accepts the user and everything works as it should but the welcome PM will not send.
I tried serveral times to upload the plugin and even used the over write function but nothing seems to be making any difference.
I see the plugin is active and the 3 plugins running happily in the plugin manager but no matter what i do i cannot get this thing to fire in a vbulletin 3.5.3 fresh install. Ironically its still running on 3.5.2 on one of my other sites with no problems whatsoever.
So does this not work properly on vbulletin 3.5.3 ? Maybe users who upgrade can get it to work but fresh installs cannot ?
We only have 2 other hacks installed and 1 is the welcome headers and the other "visitors who have come to the site in the last X hours" so i'm convinced its neither of these causing the issue .. The welcome headers is working on our other site so i know for sure it isn't that one ...
Any advice would really be helpful ..
Andreas

Make sure you have entered a correct userid (!)
Make sure your phrases are correct (delete all translations, uninstall this hack, install it again)
Disable all other plugins/products.
If it still does not work, send me a PM with an ACP login.

Hi there tried all you said and it worked .. So it got me problem solving. And low and behold it turned out i had a 5000 character limit in posting PM's so anyone that doesn't recieve a PM and you've, well, been kinda "in-depth" with your welcome pm, make sure you check you can post that message size with going into Private Messaging Options > and setting up your Maximum Characters Per Private Message (0 to disable) as vbulletin default was 5000.
And Andreas many many thanks for offerinf to help with this via PM, shows how commited you are. Awessome hack and so very glad i have it running again as my users love it ...

Indeed. But it wouldn't be so bad to have welcome posts in a pre-determined "Welcome Thread." Been looking for that for a while. Once a new member validates their email and a moderator approves their log in (we have user moderation turned on,) I would like for a post to be made welcoming them in the Welcome thread.

The PM will be sent after the user has activated the account.
Right I understand that is how it should work, but it is not happening on my board. Should I try re-installing and over writing the .xml file?
Andreas
03-17-2006, 01:24 PM
Reinstalling won't help.
Make sure your settings (userid) are correct. If it still does not work, feel free to change ERRTYPE_SILENT to ERRTYPE_STANDARD to see errors that might occur.
Also note that if you are moderating members, the PM will be sent after a new member has been accepted.

Great hack - not sure why I waited so long to install it ;).
Apologies if this has been addressed before - I have searched the thread and couldn't find anything about it.
I have modified one of the plugin files in my install to show the signature in the PM. Add this code to your choice of plugin file (there are 3 plugin files, as explained here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=803344&postcount=228)):
$pmdm->set('showsignature', 1);
Hope this helps someone. If this option could be added to the Admin CP it would be great .

Now i know my mistake, forget run rebuild all plugins at hacks : Plugin Accelerator (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=107315) :)
So you can add FAQ about that ;)
Andreas
03-23-2006, 12:40 PM
D0h! I won't add this to the FAQ as I would have to add it to all Hacks ...
Trigunflame really needs to make this fool-proof, eg. rebuild automatically when Plugins are modified.
LeonHartHVA

From when I add that hack, I think new hacks conflict with old hacks but cannot find reason. So it's important for who forgot run rebuild all plugins like me :)

I have a slight quirk with this excellent hack.
I have just had someone make a thread which was full of swear words, I deleted it but I can't warn them because "the post doesn't exist".
Is there a non-post related way of warning them? For example, if you had a chat feature installed and you wanted to warn them about something that happened there, you wouldn't be able to use it but might still want to warn them.

I was wondering if there is a way to send the PM the moment a user register and gets on the forums.. even if they are not activated.

Q: Why does this Hack not work?
A: Although it is possible that you have discovered a new Bug that causes it not to work, it is more likely that you have made an installation/configuration/customization mistake.
Before asking for support, please check:
- Did you enter the Userid of the Sender?
- Does the sender have permission to use PMs?
- Does Usergroup registered have permission to use PMs?
- Are you using the original Phrases? If you are moderating new users they get the PN after you gave them access to the forum.

I'm not sure if this would fix the problem, but you could try
AdminCP > Maintenance > Repair / Optimize Tables > (Check All)
And keep Optimize Tables to yes, and Repair Tables to yes... This might fix the problem, usually does the trick when I have an error.

EDIT--
Ok, it was not working for some reason. I then found we dont approve our members from the AdminCP, we use the ModCP so I had to edit AdminCP in your plugin to ModCP for it to work.
Now the only problem I am having is that when the AutoPM is sent to the new member, for some reason I am also getting a Welcome PM as if I was also a new member. My id is set in permission to be the sender of the AutoPM, so that that mean I am supposed to get the welcome pm for every member that gets one??? I dont understand why I also get the welcome PM.

In this way I can remember him to confirm. (Yes, I installed Welcome Headers too.)

I still can't get this to work.
When I enter the user i.d which should be shown as the sender of the PM and save it, it says '0'
Tried making a new test account, never received the welcome PM
Its built into the 3.6.0..
I wonder who did that...

Thanks for the heads up, I was wanting to know that. I imagine just inputing the member username for the sender enables the Welcome PM in the User Registration options?

This hack is awesome! I love it. But just one thing, when i use those links there i can edit the phrases i just get a box with this text 'No Phrases Matched Your Query'
Some help wouldn´t be bad.
Sincerly,
Tonkan.

It's implemented with vB 3.6.x
AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> User Registration Options
Welcome Private Message
Enabling this option will send a welcome private message to new users. Please input the username of the user that this PM is to be sent from. To alter or translate this message, use the following links:
[PM Title] [PM Body]
Note: If you require emails to be verified, this message will be sent after the user has activated his or her account. Also ensure that Receive Private Messages is enabled in Default Registration Options below.

How can I edit the PM? The only box available is the "Translation" box. I don't want to translate the text. I want to *change* it. Is there a way to do this or do I have to delete the phrases and create new ones?

Andreas,
I had this hack installed when my board was on v3.5. When I upgraded to 3.6, I uninstalled this hack, and used the integrated welcome PM in 3.6. I recently discovered that since upgrading, the welcome PMs are not sending. I started a support thread at vB.com (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=204300), and they suggested:
It may be a problem with the db changes made by your old hack. I suggest posting over at vbulletin.org for complete instructions on removing those changes from the database.
As I said, I did uninstall the old hack from the products menu in the control panel before upgrading.
Any ideas what else I should look at here? Is there something else leftover from the hack that I should be removing to let the integrated version work in 3.6?
Dexter...
