View Full Version : Censor just for guests (mainly for Google)

Hi folks,

I actually managed to create this hack myself a while back but I've since lost the code and I can't remember how I did it :(

What I'm basically looking for is a hack that will take censored words and hide them from guests but show them to everyone else. This is mostly for Google, if you're on the Adsense program it's against their T&Cs to have swearing on the pages on which you display their ads.

I'm currently censoring with replacement variables as I know that the censor functions actually permanently alter the text in the post thus making the original word irretrievable.

When I made the hack originally it was very simple, basically finding something in the censor functions and throwing a conditional around it, the problem is I can't remember which function in which file it was.

If anybody could help with this it'd be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Robert

Wouldn't this still violate Google's Adsense terms?

I think it's an interesting concept for a hack, but if the main reason is Google Adsense, I think it won't solve the terms issue, since the terms are for the actual page content, not the cloacked/altered content.

As far as I'm aware Google don't care so long as when the bot hits the page it isn't picking up any swear words, for that to happen it would have to register an account. With it not picking up any swear words on the pages with the bot, none of the content found in the search engine would contain any swear words, people would only see them if they registered.

Checking their policies it says:

Site may not include:

Excessive profanity
Currently the site doesn't contain excessive profanity but then that's all down to the opinion of whoever is reading, some people might see the word fart as excessive profanity whereas other people might see it as the other F word being used with the C word and lots of other nasty things in between.

Originally when I first joined the program they did deem that there was too much swearing on the site so I introduced the filter and they accepted me without any problem afterwards so I don't see the content being cloaked being an issue.

If they have a problem with me allowing my members to view uncensored profanity then I'm sure they'll let me know if/when they come accross it. They don't actually stipulate that.

Robert

PS. I hate that double post thing.

i like this hack but dont think itll ever be done without pay.. since it (borderline} does end up violating the google adsense TOS.
