View Full Version : Cheesy 4th of July style

I just threw this together for a surprise for my users on the 4th. It's abit flashy, abit cheesey, and the colors chosen are not the best. Modify to your hearts content folks, it was a quick throw together.
The only thing with this one is you have to upload three files to your clientscript directory for the Javascript fireworks.
In the fireworks2.js file you will need to put your domain name in there, other than that it *should* be simply upload the files (modifying the header.gif, the PNG file is supplied) and then upload the XML.
I suggest subdirectories for the styles, but how you arrange that is up to you, but remember, if you do do the subs thing, then you'll need to edit your paths...
I'm not giving support for this theme as it was thrown together, I just thought someone might like a jumping off point to start from for their forums for the fourth.
Enjoy!

I actually like this style... I think it's very patriotic. Remove that thing in the header and the fireworks (animated if they are) and place them randomly in the background.

It's the patriot in me, but I like it too. For the holiday anyway. I wouldn't use it longer than a week or two before were I to want to use it, but it would be a cool step away from the norm for a forum that was open to such things.

The fireworks are Javascript as is noted previously, and the header image is supplied so that you can modify it to your hearts content. Again, I only did this for a surprise to the users of my forums, most of whom are veterans or are currently in the military now (a few are actually in Iraq and Afghanistan as we speak....my way of saying HUAH!

I'm gonna catch hell for it, but it's loaded on the test bed until at least Tuesday. Thanks. :)

no problem, I'm just waiting for my users reaction...most of whom are blantantly anti-military, yet strongly patriotic...if that makes sense LOL. So we'll see how this goes.
BTW, did it load alright, I mean was there any snags in getting it to work OOB?

It's not that bad, the background makes the style quite nice. :) And since it's a style for one day, it doesn't need to be perfect. Thanks for sharing. ;)

I had problems with the javascript on both IE and FF (tried it on my test site) so I turned off the java script and it is very nice.

And NO, that doesn't make an ounce of sense...
It is the soldier, not the reporter, that has given us freedom of the press
It is the soldier, not the poet, that has given us freedom of speech
It is the soldier, not the campus organiser, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate
It is the soldier, not the lawyer who has given us the right to fair trial
It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves beneath the flag and
whose coffin is draped by the flag
that allows the protestor to burn the flag.

As an Army Vet, I like this style, thank you. Liz

Had a couple of minor issues, but were easily fixed. Mainly some minor changes in telling the system where the files were located.
I didn't catch too much flack from it. Lot of ex-military on our site (and me being retired AF AND an Admin helps), so any user complaining about it would catch it from all sides. **grin**
