View Full Version : Edge

Had some free time this weekend and decided to create a style to release on the newly merged site. I'm calling this one "Edge" - Not really sure why but I think it just sounds cool. It's a Grey and Orange based theme that has kind of a box feel to it. Included in the .ZIP file are all the PSD's I used to create it and the font for the header. The style has a full image set including buttons, smiles and status icons - If anyone is interested in another color theme let me know and I'll see what I can do. This version of the style is fixed width but I plan on reworking it to be fluid width here in the next couple of days - I'll post an update when I get that version finished. Any comments, questions or ideas are always welcomed - I hope everyone enjoys the style !!
Update 8/16/2005 Version 1.2
* Updated the style to vB 3.0.8 and modifed a couple of the images.
Update 8/7/2005 Version 1.15
* Created "Home" and "Forum" buttons for use with the fixed width version. They can be found here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=751000&postcount=27) as well as the template modifications needed to install them. A full button pack will be released in the near future containing buttons for commonly used hacks.
Update 6/27/2005 Version 1.1
* Added the fluid width version of Edge to the .ZIP file
* Added the header .PSD for the fluid width version to the .ZIP file

thank you for this style
Wow, this is lovely, sharp and clean. Thank you very much for making it available! I'm still on vb2 (waiting on vb3.5 to upgrade), but once I finally get into the 21st century via an upgrade, I'm definitely taking advantage of your generosity and skill. Bravo! :)

I plan on updating all of my styles to 3.5 once they've got it to a stable version - Just don't see a point in trying to do it now during the Beta's.

I need to come up with the buttons:
Arcade
Journals
Exclusives
Links
How does one do this?
Andrew

The fixed width version just uses the normal vBulletin navbar instead of the image based one if you want to do it that way. I could make the buttons for you but I'm not sure exactly when I'll be able to. Thunderstorm blasted my cable modem and router last night so I have no internet connection at home and don't have Photoshop at work.

First step is to upload (via FTP) the images from this style to your website. Just overwrite my images folder to the existing images folder (It won't delete the old stuff - Just add the new images to it.)
Once you upload the images goto Styles and Templates >> Download / Upload Styles in your AdminCP.
On the Download / Upload Styles page click the Browse button next to "EITHER upload the XML file from your computer" and find the "black_and_gold.xml" and open it.
Finally press the Import button and it should do the rest of the work for you. If you have any other questions or can't get that to work let me know and I'll try and help as best as I can.

AdminCP >> vBulletin Options >> Style and Language Settings
On that page change the "Allow Users To Change Styles" to "Yes" and press the "Save" button at the bottom. That should allow your members to select which style they want either via the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page or via their UserCP.

It reminds me of a more elaborate and better detailed version of the default wbb forum software theme, which looks very sharp. Nice job.

i love this style !! :D
but i have a small problem when using the vba cmps portal. the (yellow) border on the right side is not shown. i tried different widths but without success
but the problem only occurs on the portal page. all the pages are fine
can anybody help? :)
Andrew

It's because the vBAdvanced CMPS uses it's own footer template - If you copy and paste the code containing the left side of the table from the main footer template to the vBA one it should work.

You can create new buttons using the PSD for the design that I included in the .ZIP file. If you run into to any problems let me know and I will try and help you out.

Yeah, I am not sure as to how and make the new buttons.
I need to add one for "Home Page" or "Home" that links to index.php
Maybe with a little bit of help I can sort it out..
Also, was wondering if it would just be easier to add another navbar below the main nav bar, is that easy to do?
Awesome skin!

I went ahead and made you a home and a forum button and have attached them to this post. To install it do the following:
1.) Upload images to the "<Forum_Root>/images/edge/misc" directory.
2.) Perform the following template edit(s) to the "header" template (Be sure to modify the links to represent your websites directory structure):
Before:
<if condition="$show['member']">
<td height="25" width="68"><a href="usercp.php?$session[sessionurl]"><img border="0" src="images/edge/misc/nav_usercp.gif"></a></td>
</if>
Add for Home:
<td height="25" width="57"><a href="http://www.yoursite.com/directory/index.php"><img border="0" src="images/edge/misc/nav_home.gif"></a></td>
Add for Forum:
<td height="25" width="59"><a href="http://www.yoursite.com/forum_root/"><img border="0" src="images/edge/misc/nav_forum.gif"></a></td>

++++, I was coming back to say I needed a "Forum" button as well, doh!
I think I can handle it now if I had a psd file for the button.
I really appreciate all your help! You don't get this type of kindness very often
Cheers!

Added to the other post with the Home button - Let me know if you need any more. I've been planning on releasing a button pack for common hacks like the Arcade, RPG, Journal, Etc. but I just haven't gotten a chance to do it. Might try and get that done tomorrow if I find time to break away from my other project.

looking forward to the 3.5 version

You could try and install it but no guarantees that it will work. I plan on converting all of my vB 3.0.X hacks to vB 3.5 but not until it hits the Gold release (Too many changes happening in a short period of time to justify doing it now.)

Would you by chance have an idea as to why the left side border would not be visible all the way down the side for my gallery page?
http://www.s2tg.com/gallery/index.php
Andrew
08-14-2005, 03:27 PM
Yep - You need to put the full URL to that image in the following line:
<td width="20" valign="top" background="images/edge/misc/left_border.gif"><img border="0" src="http://www.s2tg.com/images/edge/misc/left_border.gif" width="20" height="5"></td>
It looks like you changed the image URL itself but you missed the background one. That piece of code should be towards the top of the header template.

any status on that button pack? Like the one for "Gallery" and maybe one for those clan site like "Clan"
if you have the psd I could do it myself but I suppose it can wait until your 3.5 version is out. :ninja:

Hey to add the other buttons, I can't find forum_root in my FTP, can anyone locate me where is it?
Andrew
09-18-2005, 08:30 PM
"Forum_root" isn't actually a directory - It's a placeholder for your forums root directory.
I.E. - If your forums reside at "http://www.domain.com/forums/" then your root directory would be the "forums" directory when you FTP.
Does that make sense ???

<font color="Yellow">I just wanted to inform everyone that I will no longer be actively supporting my 3.0.X styles. With the upcoming release of 3.5.0 Gold drawing increasingly near I am focusing my attention on converting my current styles to vB 3.5 as well as some new styles that are currently underway. If you find any major problems with any of my 3.0.X styles I will fix them as time permits but no new features will be added.</font>

I think I included a .PSD file for the buttons - If I didn't or if you don't have Photoshop let me know and I can try and make one for you sometime this week.
