Haven't you guys thought about having a database (download) file system for the hacks, styles, and grahpics? That would be powerful and easy to use, download, manage, rate..etc the files. Since vBT and vB.org has been merged together, I think its the right time to create a database system that is powered by PHP and mySQL. And there is one thing that vB.org is missing. A tools section. I think we are in need of a tools section including scripts to help administrators perform certain tasks, other database drivers and the like.
We should also have a skin tutorials, support, requests, and Tips & Tricks forum, same goes to the Tools & Hacks section. That would be much helpful especially for the newbies.

We used to had a database back in the vB2 days. Sadly it no longer exists since vB3 came around. I rather miss it along with a few others.

I don't get it. Okay, vB3 was released but why did they had to take the database down? Was vB3 a troublemaker or something? Besides, having a database would be alot better, trust me.
Look at Invisionize's (former official IPB resource site) db system. http://db.invisionize.com It's pretty amazing! We're just using the forums pretending like a database, which I don't like this idea lol. :tired:

There is a good chance that a database-type frontent will come back ;)

For the front end there will probably a database again soon (storing info, searching, etc). For storing the hacks themself and to download them there won't be any changes probably.

Oh... sounds sexy.... :D Will it be anything similar to the old one?

Could always use a system like secure download database, the system is very good, works from a back end of vB or a Portal, would give a nice use, of course something you made yourself, but that kinda of idea would be great.
For thous not sure what i mean.....

There is nothing to be proud about. We are already discussing this for some time. In fact we where hoping that it would be in place before the merge, and i am afraid that i am the one to blame it isn't finished yet.

No we will not move the files to a database or any other download system. We are a vBulletin board, and we are in a way even one of the many sites that are every day prooving what a good product vB itself already is. We see absolute no reason to move the files out of the standard vB structure. As we see it the files belong very thight together with the hack description and support thread.

I didn't like the old hack database because it was seperate from the post. Submitting it as a thread and then into the hack database was overly annoying. So long as that annoying bit isn't in the new hack database, I might like it. ;)
I still think how it's done currently is fine, though.

The current one is fine, I admit it, but we need something that is a whole new database system. :D

Back in the vB2 days we used to have a graphics database/styles database at vBT.com. It was very popular with the members, I can see it being a good addition to vB.org again, too. :)

When we go to 3.5, you will see how we integrate the thread system into a database interface. :)

The old hack database rules ;)
It was one of my favourite features of vB.org :)

Many people are commenting about the old database, no idea why so what was so special about it?

It was just a nice, easy way of finding hacks. It was appreciated by many users, and it seems like an easier way to find mods you didn't know existed (hence can't use search to find them)

So why not bring it back on the streets eh? We'll definitely need it for vB 3.0.7 or 3.5.x. :)

Oh boy I can't wait for 3.5. A stable version will be released, new hacks, new styles, and a new db system for 3.5. :D We, the vBulletin fans, are gonna rule this world! :nervous:
