I'm seeing this exact method being used on cgtalk.com and I could really use something like this on my site. However I don't know how to code it. You can see it in action here:

http://www.cgtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=121

It auto formats the thumbnails to a specific size by adding black. Very cool. If anyone knows how to do this it would be a great tool for alot of site's that are about photos, graphics, or images.. etc.

This visual gallery feature would be GREAT for sites that focus on artwork and visual media.

Here is a screenshot from cgtalk.com which uses this feature.

I'll willing to negociate! admin@scifi-meshes.com

I am sure you could do that with GD. The question is, why you'd want to? Couldn't you just drop the thumbnail on a table cell with a black background color?

It is cool that it appears there is an intermediate size image used for inline display, linked to a large size image...

Would you be wanting this as something by itself or as part of an existing hack/mod on your site?

You see it allows people to post a thumbnail of their artwork so that while viewing the ENTIRE forum (say.. gallery forum)

If you register and attempt to post in this forum you are presented with alot of options and the ability to post a thumbnail that will showup on the forumdisplay.php page. I'm wondering if you know how to code something like this.

1. It would need to make a thumbnail of their artwork.
2. It would need to be able to be updated by the threads orginal poster (so it would show their latest changes/updates).
3. And it would show the thumbnail on the forumdisplay page like you can see in the image posted above.

This would be a hack all on it's own.
